The Main Branch Library in Long Beach, Ca. is located downtown Long Beach, at 101 Pacific Ave. near Long Beach City Hall This public library is for the average everyday patrons of all ages and backgrounds. Families , school kids or people just browsing and exploring. Patrons might go their to use the computers, do homework, research, attend meetings, lectures , programs, check out books, dvd's cd's or video's , There is a childrens dept. with lots of kids books and materials and a monthly toddler storytime for kids ages 3 months to 3 years. This is a lapsit program designed to introduce families to the library. There is a learning center, with homework assistants. a childrens art program and a teen mini book workshop in April during national library week. INTRODUCTION TO THE LIBRARY
4. The library also offers a community cinema series, a free program that uses the power of film to bring awareness of various social issues. Patrons can also pick up tax forms and information sheets during tas season CINEMA

COMPUTER CENTER There is the computer area where patrons can sign in to use a computer, it is a electronic system that buzzes and notifies you when its your turn at the computer once logged on you have 60 minutes to use it as needed, such as internet, word etc. There is also an express computer area, you can use these first come first served for 15 minutes. then there is the printing area where you are charged a small fee of 15 cent for each page printed , in this same area there was also a place to work with microfilm

LIBRARY CATALOGS You can search for thousands of books through the online Library catalog or through the Encore system. this library has a online referencing system titled "ask now " which is located at http://www.lbpl.org/contact/default.asp , here you can renew materials online or send email/comments
7. THE eBOOK The Long Beach Public Library is excited to offer downloadable eBooks (electronic books) to its already popular downloadable audiobooks collection! Library cardholders can browse the collection, checkout and download eBooks anytime, from anywhere! eBooks can be read on a PC or Mac computer, and can also be transferred to popular e-reading devices like the Sony Reader, the Barnes & Noble Nook, the Apple iPad and other tablets, as well as smart phones.
9. One of the other service offered by this library is a Online Book Club , where you read five minute selections from a chapter of a selected book daily from your email sent to you by the library. ONLINE BOOK CLUB
10. THE REFERENCE DESK THE REFERENCE DESK IS A BIG BEAUTIFUL HALF CIRCLE DESK WITH A LARGE SIGN ON IT THAT’S STATES “INFORMATION” THIS IS ALSO WHERE THEY HOUSE THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS SUBJECT HEADINGS. ALSO STATIONED AT THE REFERENCE DESK ARE 2 LOVELY LIBRARIANS WAITING TO HELP PATRONS IN NEED

THE LIBRARY SERVICES Located all around the reference desk, computer area and the childrens room are rows and rows of books , shelved in what looked like oak cases which gives the library a sophisticated feel. each row was clearly labeled with its subject headings and call numbers. Upstairs are more cases of books and tables and chairs for the reading and working purposes
12. REFERENCING SELECTIONS General referencing collections at the library are , children and young adult, adult, media and music. Specialty referencing collections consist of Long Beach History collection, Government Publications and Genealogy, one of the highlights of this collection is Roots, a growing referencing collection of African American genealogy resources
13. Library of Congress Authorities" this is a free service you can use to browse and view authority headings for Subject, Name, Title, and Name/Title combinations and download authority records in MARC format for use in a local library system.
14. THE MILLER ROOM These are other special collections housed in the lower lever of the library in the Miller room (donated in honor of her late husband) by Lorraine MIller Collins , The Miller Fine Art Collection , The Bertrand Smith Sr Collection, and the Marilyn Horne Collection.
15. DISABILITY SERVICES Another service is the ((ICPD) The Informational Center for People with DisabilitIes, it is a high technology center with adjustable compute workstations designed to meet the informational needs of people with hearing, vision , physical and learning disabilties. It is located on the lower level of the Main Library(Tues-Sat. 10-5pm).

17. PROGRAMS The LBPL (MAIN) has something for all people, its offerings of community events and programs such as the brown bag book club and the senior programs as well as computer classes. A family can come to the library and make a day of it and find fascinating materials.
