Local SEO Checklist
Local SEO should be part of your overall SEO strategy. Below is a list of the most important things to implement to
improve your local SEO.
NAP: Name, Address and Phone Number
Task Completed Y/N Notes
Website Contact Details
Add a contact us page to your website
Add location map to your website (Google map)
Add full address to the contact page, include city,
county (if relevant) and country
Contact details of all office/property locations appear
in the footer of website (when less than 10 locations) .
This footer to appear on all pages of your website
NAP details are identical across all pages of your site
NAP details are identical on all external websites
(should match what is on your website). Use some
abbreviations e.g. St. and Street. See accepted
abreviations http://www.whitespark.ca/acceptable-
google-maps-nap-abbreviations-and-variations
Phone number is visible on website (typically header
and footer and throughout as a call to action)
Phone number is clickable on mobile phones
Location information is marked up using structured
data mark-up

Ensure your address is listed on social media accounts
and that it is identical to what is listed on your website
On-page SEO
Optimise a page on your website for what you do and
where you are e.g. hotel Dublin City Centre. This is
typically the home page and /or contact & location
pages. Do not optimize all three for the same search
terms. Pick unique search terms for each page on your
website. Include the keywords (location details) in the
following areas:
- Body of content (at least 2-3 times but this
will depend on the amount of text)
- Image tags
- Video tags
- Meta title (1st
60 characters)
- Meta description (1st
160 characters)
- Inbound links (internal and external)
Include event information and mark it up using
structured data mark-up. Ensure you specify location
of your events.

Increase links to your website from
- local businesses
- industry relevant blogs/websites/articles

Create fresh content – fresh content will help with
building links, citations and each piece can be
optimized for search e.g. Top 13 free things to do with

Internationalise Your Website & Web Content
Create landing pages for specific target markets e.g.
domain.com/fr and translate. Use separate url’s for
each location
Write for that specific market – taking account of
cultural differences and their specific needs.
Use rel=”alternate” hreflang=”x“attributes to enable
search engines to serve the correct language or
regional URL in search results
Write about your location e.g. if you are a hotel
promote the activities in the location
Google Search Console
Submit your website to Google search console
Set the geo target for your website / sub domains /
sub directories (only do this is this section is country
specific e.g. is it for all French speakers of for people
in France?)
Google My Business Listing
Get listed in Google My Business / Claim your listing
