2. “Titanium”

This scene shows the setting of a high school that has been destroyed , it shows the
stock character who is throughout the video. The lighting is also quite dark here and
throughout , this connotes that something bad is going to happen/ is happening. This
shot shows a narrative event which is explained throughout the rest of the story. This
scene conforms to two of Jow Gows theories ; the special effects extravaganza and the
enhanced performance.
3. This is a close up and shows how the
stock character feels about the strange
events that are going on and is almost
from a high shot that makes him look
vulnerable but the composition of the
shot makes him look solid and
dependable.
This following shot of the bow
on the bike suggests that
someone is following him and
also makes him look like that he
is in some kind of trouble which
helps to tell the story of what is
going on.
4. This scene creates a domestic familiarity as it just seems like an everyday messy
living room and contrasts to the story of the video as the video is about the
supernatural, it seems as though this familiar space has been disturbed but
leaves the audience members wondering by what? The colours of this scene are
quite dark and sinister but there is a bright white light shining through the
windows symbolising good and hope.
5. Here a low camera angle is used which
highlights the supernatural element of
this video and makes what is happening
seem more significant, spectacular and
magnificent. But at the same time the
dark lighting makes it feel quite sinister.
Much of this video goes
against Andrew
Goodwin's ideas of star
iconography and there
being a relationship
between the music,
visuals and lyrics as the
video tells a story a bit
like it would on
television or in a film. In
this shot the setting is
the woods to reflect
nature- which contrasts
with the theme of he
song ‘Titanium’.
6. In regard to performance throughout it is anti- performance piece as it does not
contain performance from the song. Lighting here is used to highlight the central
character of the piece who has caused all destruction by using his superpowers
but the lighting makes him seem like the hero even though he is running away.
Costume and stock characters make this video seem more realistic and the editing
of this piece has been used to create swift transition to make a fast pace .
