2. The Curriculum and Instruction Department has established
quarterly round tables for middle school and high school world
language teachers to:
Align VUSD curriculum with Common Core State Standards for Literacy in
Technical Subjects, Foreign Language Framework for California Public
Schools and National Standards for Foreign Language Education. To
date, the team has completed:
Revision of Spanish 1 ( and adoption of new text)
Addition of Mandarin-Chinese 1 and 2 (and adoption of texts)
Addition of Spanish 1, Mandarin Chinese 1 and 2 to online format, Edgenuity
(formerly e2020)
Provide opportunities for articulation between middle and high school
levels to revise placement procedures.
Next steps:
Revision of Spanish 2, French and German courses and addition of
world language courses to Edgenuity offerings.
3. The Curriculum and Instruction Department has established a
VUSD Arts Networking Group, under the leadership of Helena
Hanna (California Arts Project) and Merryl Goldberg (CSUSM) in
order to:
Create a strategic plan for the arts in VUSD. To date, the
team has met three times and has completed:
Professional reading on the relationship of the arts to Common Core
Discussion of elements of the ideal arts program
Initial goal-setting
Next steps:
Two Saturday meetings in the spring to create a three-year plan
for professional development, curriculum revision and
networking models.
