“ Body for Christ” Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.  Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.  1 Corinthians 3:16-17;  6:19,20

What is the problem? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Yet the body is
 for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.  1 Corinthians 6:13a
Making the Biblical Connection! Where do you live?  “ My weight problem is not a dietary problem.  It is a hermeneutical problem.” 1Corinthians 3:16; 6:19 We speak against: the drug addict the alcoholic the smoker, the sex addict the suicidal violence  the gambler
Making the Biblical Connection! Leviticus 3:16b It is almost as if we have subliminally come to believe in the existence of a dichotomy between spirituality and how we treat our bodies.  When interpreting the Bible, we no longer see the practical application of many verses in relation to how we are to treat our bodies because of this illicit dichotomy.  Our weight problem is not necessarily a dieting problem as much as it is a hermeneutical problem.  It can be said that our favorite Bible verses are the following: The heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. 1Corinthians 9:27

What must I do? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],“ After everything has been said and done.  There will be a lot more said than done.”  “DespuĂ©s que todo sea dicho y hecho serĂĄ mĂĄs lo que sea dicho que ha hecho.”  Bruce Creed
What must I do? ,[object Object],Recognize that the way you treat your body affects not only you, but your family, your community and the Body of Christ.  Recognize that your body is not your own. It belongs to God, and that you will give an account to God for how you treat your body.  Surrender and treat equally this realm of your life as you would any other area which the Holy Spirit may be leading you to confess and align with God. Realize that to maximize your effectiveness in the Body, you must take care of the temple.  “ The irreverence of our bodies is made most evident by just looking at what people are willing to put in their mouths.”  Dr. Ben Lerner  Realize that it is not about discipline but about obedience.
What must I do? ,[object Object],[object Object],Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your  bodies  a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of  worship . And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your  mind , so that you may  prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.  Romans 12:1-2
What must I do? ,[object Object],I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  Psalms 139:14a Avoid extremes.  Keep it simple, practical & well balanced.  Failing to plan is planning to fail. Your plan must be a twofold approach (nutrition / exercise).
Nutrition Plan Should be a grace plan not a legalistic nutrition plan Should include all foods Should be a wise plan Eat  anything  that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience' sake;  1 Corinthians 10:25 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, men who forbid marriage and advocate  abstaining from foods  which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.  For  everything  created by God is good, and  nothing  is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude; for it is  sanctified  by means of the word of God and prayer.   1 Timothy 4:1-5
One person has faith that he may eat  all things , but he who is weak eats vegetables only. The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. Romans 14:2-3 All things  are lawful for me, but not all things are  profitable . All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.  1 Corinthians 6:12 For by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.  2 Pet 2:19b     All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify.  1 Corinthians 10:23  
“ Genetics are only an issue when triggered by bad choices.”  Dr. Ben Lerner Carbohydrates, Protein & Fats Proteins:  Found in all foods, but found mostly in animal products.  Think about healing, building and repairing. Carbohydrates:  Everything that does not have a mother, a face, or go to the bathroom is most of the time part of this category. Think about energy, power and fire. Fats:  Essential for proper structure, cellular functioning, glandular hormonal production.  Think about protection, transportation and absorption.  There are good (omega3) fats and bad (saturated) fats.
Wise Tips for Fit & Healthy Living Because carbohydrates produce energy, they are mainly needed early in your day.  As the day progresses your needs for repairing increases and your need for energy decreases.  A renewed thinking would suggest to eat carbohydrates in the morning and more protein at night. By adding small amounts of fat and/or small amounts of protein to carbohydrate meal, you can help to create more gradual carbohydrate digestion.
Treat Yourself like a Baby Eat every 2-3 hours. Sleep at least 6-8 hours. Drink plenty of water “ You should never drink anything you wouldn’t take a bath in.” Drink your vegetables and eat your fruits Drink your water Âœ hour before or 2 hrs after your meals Be ready at all times (carry your baby bag). Consume plenty of fiber
Exercise Plan Should be done for the glory of God Should combined cardiovascular exercises (walking, running, bike) & resistance exercises (lifting weights, free weights) Should be simple and short so that you will stick to it Should utilize all available help (technology, virtual reality) Should utilize all available help (technology, virtual reality) Should be combined with other edifying tasks (multi-tasking) Should allow for 1 but not more than 2 rest/grace days wk On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. I Tim 4:7b-8

When interpreting the Bible, we no longer see the practical application of many verses in relation to how we are to treat our bodies because of this illicit dichotomy. Our weight problem is not necessarily a dieting problem as much as it is a hermeneutical problem. It can be said that our favorite Bible verses are the following: The heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. 1Corinthians 9:27
