ANALYSIS/RESEARCH PROJECT ABOUT:
CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS IN BUILDINGS
INTRODUCTION:
For thousands of years, human beings have used different materials to make their
constructions: skins, trunks, branches…, but soon they began using mud and
stones. It took thousands of years until they discovered the properties of all
materials, like clay to make bricks and tiles; cement and lime, mixing these with
sand and water to obtain concrete, etc.
TITLE: CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS IN BUILDINGS
SCRIPT:
1. COVER
2. INDEX. All topics must be reflected in sequential order, specifying the number
of the page where they are.
3. HOUSING IN ANTIQUITY.
· How did they construct?
· How much time did the construction spend?
· Which materials were used?
4. ANALYSIS OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS USED IN BUILDINGS.
· Draw a picture of a building, indicating by arrows all the different
construction elements.
· Identify the construction materials used to build a house, indicating in
which part of the house are used, and explain each one.
5. RESEARCH: Search for information in magazines, encyclopedias, Internet,
etc., and explain which materials have been developed to make the following
monuments and how much of them has been used:
· Aztec Pyramids (Mexico)
· Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid)
· Castle of La Mota (Medina del Campo, Valladolid)
· Taj Mahal (India)
6. ANALYSE YOUR TOWNSHIP: Grab your camera and go outside, take a
walk, walking slowly around your town, watching the buildings and structures
that you find along the way. Take a picture of those you think that are
constructed using a different material to each other. Then, helping yourself with
books or the Internet, or asking people:
2. · pick 4 photos of buildings you have taken from your town.
· make a file for each one of the chosen buildings and monuments, where
must appear:
- Photograph
- Township
- Name of the building
- Name of the street
- Year or period in which it was built
- Type of building or monument it is intended to
- Materials used in its construction
7. CONCLUSIONS: They must be homegrown and not less than half a page.
8. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Make a detailed reference: title, author, publisher, etc.
DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 10th 2014. The students who had not delivered the Project
before deadline, will get (-10) points in the 1st Term. Extensions won’t be allowed.
APPEARANCE:
- A4 format, white sheets. By hand or computer.
- Delivered in a plastic or cardboard DOSSIER (do not deliver single sheets).
- The cover shall contain:
- Reference to I.E.S. EL ASTILLERO
- Department of Technology.
- Title of the project
- Name and surname of the student
- Date
- Other data: no minimum number of sheets is set. Make sure to deal with the
issues clearly enough, and avoid copying texts or photocopy anything
without selecting the contents before. It is more important to write outlines,
summaries, graphics, photos, etc., as a result of your work, than many pages
full of text. Use more than two or three sources of information so that the
work done has got your personal stamp synthesis.
WHAT WILL BE EVALUATED:
- Quality of appearance: cover, cleanliness, spelling.
- Level and quality of the matter illustrations.
- Quantity and quality of the consulted documentation.
- Originality and personality of contents. Those projects very similar to
other classmates’ works, or the simple copy or photocopy of text and
graphics, will lose value.
- Identical works in its entirety shall be nullified.
- Summary tables, diagrams, graphs etc., of the various issues researched
will be mainly valued, especially if they are original of the student.
- Degree of assimilation of the project.
