pelvic organs revert back approximately to pre
pregnant state both anatomically and
physiologically.
4. •In developing countries, they say that the incidence
and prevalence of postpartum morbidity are poorly
known.
•Purperial morbidity is the most neglected condition
even today, and a challenging problem till date.
•As prevention is better than cure, there is definite need
to study the preventive aspects described in Classics.

Upakunchika, Dadima, Twak, Patra are

• By this we can say that these drugs are
helpful in prevention of infection.

rice gruel with panchakola is advised.
Proper involution is fecilitated by the release of proteolytic
enzymes, where in the release of these enzymes, panchakola
drugs which has the property of deepana and pachana has a
role to play.
PPH due to Atonicity of uterus can be prevented by using
sneha.
Kushmanda, which has styptic action also helps in
preventing PPH.
Traumatic PPH even though should be managed surgically,
proper healing of wounds takes place with intake of mamsa
rasa i.e protein diet.
10. •Early ambulation helps in prevention of thrombus
formation in the veins.
•The diet with lasuna, panchakola,
kulutha, Yavani helps in
prevention of formation of
thrombus.
•The anti coagulation activity of
lasuna is compared to aspirin,so it is most advisable
in dietary intake to prevent thrombus formation.
11. As the food advised is mostly in the form of
liquids, it helps in preventing Urinary
infections.
Also the yava i.e barley advised acts as diuretic
and prevents urinary stasis and in turn
infections.
Drugs like kulutha, moolaka, Ervaraka also have
efficacy towards Urinary track and prevent
infections.
Ervaruka, a member of pumpkin family has 94.4%
water and acts as diuretic, and the other one
moolaka or radish also helps in proper
excretion of urine.
12. Usually proper exploration of uterus after
parturition is very necessary to prevent
sub involution.
Proper involution is fecilitated by the release of
proteolytic enzymes, where in the release of these
enzymes, panchakola drugs which has the property
of deepana and pachana has a role to play.
These drugs may act at the level of Dhatwagni
and help in the proper release of proteolytic
enzymes and help in preventing sub involution.
13. Even with the advent of many medical advances,
the health is still at risk. Many studies show that
longevity is improved with diet.
So, it can be concluded that the postnatal dietary
regimen explained in the classics is very much
necessary even today for the modern day ladies.
But, even though the diet prescribed helps in
proper prevention of common puerperal
complaints, this has its own limitation.
Inspite of the diet followed, women may suffer
serious complications as the constitution differs
from person to person.
