1) There is no specified modus operandi or way of practicing NAMASMARAN, such as sitting in one place.
2) NAMASMARAN can be practiced effectively while engaged in daily activities and following one's duties. Maintaining anusandhan, or focus on the divine name, is important.
3) Sitting in one place for NAMASMARAN may be appropriate sometimes, such as during morning/evening prayer, or when tired, unwell, or under adverse weather conditions. But it is not necessary, and one's practice will evolve as guided by the Guru.
1. MODUS OPERANDI OF NAMASMARAN: DR SHRINIWAS JANARDAN
KASHALIKAR
Student: Sir, I wanted to ask you about how to increase NAMASMARAN sitting in one
place? Apart from the daily NAMASMARAN, it's bit difficult for me to increase it. While
working, walking here and there, I do chant as much as possible but feel; it would be more
beneficial if I do more while sitting in one place.
Do you have any suggestions please? Would like to know.
Teacher: Thank you for stimulating me to think about NAMASMARAN from this angle.
As far as I understand, god our Guru; inspires, empowers and enables us to practice
NAMASMARAN exactly in a manner appropriate to us. He also inspires and enables us to do
activities, appropriate to us, which would promote and spread the practice of and involvement
in NAMASMARAN.
As I understand, He likes us to keep anusandhan i.e. focus on NAMA; while we are busy in
our day to day activities, SWADHARMA.
I don’t think our Guru has specified any modus operandi, such as sitting in place or any other.
I don’t try to sit in one place and practice NAMASMARAN, except in morning and evening
for about five to ten minutes. I do not try anything extra. I am in one place, if I am tired, if I
am not well or if I am in Arati etc. I am in one place if it is midnight, if it is too hot or too
cold or raining outside.
May be, I am not mature enough or old enough to practice NAMASMARAN by sitting in one
place.
But I am sure our Guru does evolve us and gets everything done appropriately through us, at
an appropriate time and as per His wish.
