2. 4-H Tobacco Policy
Tobacco product possession and/or use
by 4-H youth participants is prohibited at
all 4-H sponsored activities. Tobacco
use by adults during 4-H sponsored
events is discouraged and should only
be done off camp property and not in
view of youth participants.
3. Policy Justification
• It is illegal to use tobacco products on
West Virginia University property
• It is illegal to sell tobacco products,
including smokeless tobacco, to
minors
• Tobacco use has been linked to
numerous health problems
• We have a responsibility to foster
healthy lifestyles in 4-H youth
4. 4-H’ers Teach Others
• Wyoming County Teens Provide
Tobacco Education at Sporting Events
• Health Officer Program In Clubs
• Lead Group Discussions In Camp
• ‘Make The Best Better!’
5. A 4-H Story
Had it not been for the
4-H Program and 4-H
camp, I would still be
smoking. I had smoked
for over 20 years when I
quit. This is the best
thing I have ever done
for myself and my
family. Belinda
