The Hover Dam Bypass Bridge Presentation

• You are the chief engineer for the bridge
• You are going to be presenting to a group of Nevada
voters
• In a tough economy they’ve just discovered that
they’ve paid $240M for a bridge when they already
had one that worked.
• Your job is to explain to them what they got and why
they got it...
The purpose of this presentation
is to demonstrate how to create and
deliver an effective technical
presentation.

The Hoover Dam Problem

Major security issues

Too much traffic


The world had changed and the Hoover Dam had not


Traffic problems were growing and a new security threat
had been realized.

The actual construction of the bridge required careful
planning and attention to detail


This bridge was designed to be a national landmark


The towers presented a significant challenge during the
construction


The building of the concrete arch required a great deal of
careful coordination


Traffic problems were growing and a new security threat had
been realized.


Traffic and security problems caused the U.S. 93 route over
the Hoover Dam to no longer be an acceptable solution


Building another bridge over the Colorado River was the
needed solution.


The bridge was built and opened for service on October 19, 2010
