This document discusses gender-based violence against women. It provides statistics on the frequency of violence against women in India, such as a woman being molested every 26 minutes. The types of violence addressed include female foeticide, child marriage, domestic violence, rape, acid attacks, and honor killings. The document also discusses the root causes of violence, including gender stereotypes, lack of women's rights, and exposure to violence in media. It provides an overview of laws in India related to domestic violence and women's rights. Finally, it suggests ways to prevent violence through changing social perceptions, education, empowering women, and strict enforcement of laws.

Marriage is the most special moment of life for everyone… The famous vow we take “till death do us apart”… unaware of the fact that it can transform into “ till my child finds me dead on the kitchen floor”
Well this is just one aspect of women abuse… as we move on we will look at a broader picture and then u will realize that woman abuse is not just about domestic violence…
These are just a few boring statistics you need not bother about… We will touch the ground reality rather than mere stats…
Women are being abused worldwide in large numbers… Kenya, afghanistan, mexico, iraq… everywhere women are raped, tortured, assaulted and murdered… Even the world’s largest military i.e. of United states is not safe for women where they are more likely to b assaulted by their fellow soldiers than enemy.
But what is so pathetic is that despite all this, There are very few countries as you can see here which have laws against this violence…
And whats even more disgusting is that more than half of women in india believe that its justified to b beaten if u are not taking proper care of house…
Now lets move beyond boring stats… Lets move to ground reality… Lets start from the grassroot…
Tell me frankly, Which gender comes in your mind when u think of following : a Surgeon, an Engineer or a Cricketer… I Know when I say cricketer… its sachin which strikes first to mind… anyways what about surgeon of engineer… which sex? is it male? Ok… why?
Ok… what about : School teacher or a nurse… A female if I not wrong?
Why? Can’t a surgeon be a female or a Nurse be a male… Very common… but still it’s the gender stereotypes which are filled into our minds as we grow… and that’s from where problem roots….
Society play a major role… women are always treated as soft, inferior to man and one who cannot decide what to do? They are always told…
Even media is a culprit. Women in advertisements are depicted as sexual objects, restricted to home, her only goal being to attract and attain a man… Now lets see this…
These are just a few reasons why women are abused… there must be many more reasons…
Here is a definition of violence against women given by United Nations…
Whats important here is that it can be Physical, sexual or psychological as given here…
Women suffer from violence throughout their lifetime… from infancy till old age…
Oh! I am wrong… actually The violence starts even before birth… in the form of female infanticide…
See this… In just 10 years… the sex ratio of india has declined by 49… which is quite shocking… It may be due to easier availability of ultrasounds and detection of fetal sex even though law prohibits it.
As you can see, In economically advanced states - such as Delhi, Haryana, Punjab where access to sex-determination clinics is more easily available, sex ratio is even less than 900 shown as green area… Punjab being worst hit with 798 girls per 1000 boys. But that actually means that 1 in every 5 boy wil not get married… isnt it terrifying? I think you must try to get girlfriends if u don’t have to ensure you get a bride…
This is the culprit… the ultrasound… nice technology but largely misused… I wish laws being made more strict against sex determination…
This is the aborted fetus… She deserved to live, to get proper education and may become a doctor like you all… but she was unfortunate…
Ok. These were the first man and woman in the world… What if this girl, Eve, was not allowed to be born…?
Well… Lets see our future… this is a news of about 30 years from now… when there wil be no women in the world left… thanks to our sharply falling sex ratio… Its about a small village in bihar where three men spotted a female near the village… The whole village is excited, its been the 3rd sighting in last 6 months, government launches probe and sets reward of rs. 5000 to anyone who can find her. One villager says… Chamatkaar ho gaya bhaiya!... An old man says badi dukh ki baat hai ki ye din dekhna pad raha hai… hamaare zamaane ki baat kuch aur hi thi! And this photo is being auctioned at rs. 35000…
So we must wake up before this day comes… we hav to stop female foeticide… and you all can play a role… coz if doctor don’t tell the sex… noone can know…
Only thing to notice in this map is that more than half of women in our country are married before 18…
And infact, more than 40% of world’s child marriages take place in india… Sometimes the Groom is a boy or sometimes 3-4 times elder…
Child sexual abuse is not uncommon as popular belief is… but it is hidden because of disbelief, denial and cover-up to preserve the family reputation
This is a famous murder mystery of Dr. talwar’s house… latest theory says that he actually used to have relations with her daughter arushi talwar… he even used to create porn films of her daughter and sell them… and when she was about to disclose it to police with the help of her friend and servant hemraj… they were both brutally murdered…
Recovering and Healing from Incest
For the first time in india, Recently started RAHI foundation did a survey in Delhi… and what they found was shocking…
Over 76% women were sexually abused during childhood… mostly by family members…
The problem in India is there is no specific law till yet about incest, family is thought to be so sacred that they think incest can never happen in india… but it’s not true… as u can see from stats…
Another problem is rehabilitation of abused child… where to keep her… child homes are so worse that child would better like to be in an abusive family…
In few places, clitoris of female is cut during childhood… Illogical but it’s a religious matter and so still prevalent… already it has victimised over 130 million women in world…
Violence in our age group is most common and most severe… leaving a psychological bruise for whole life to carry…
Let look at a few of them…
Sex has long been used as an instrument of torture. Women, children, and men are forced to work in the sex industry, sometimes servicing up to 60 clients in a single day.
But it is high time man should realise... That women are not fresh packed meat… they are not for sale…
But boys are smart... Why to use force if they can do it other way… They mix drugs into ur drink or food and then u wil wake up in the morning… with nothing over u but just a shame to carry…
Famous date rape drug, Rohypnol, generically called flunitrazepam is commonly used… do u remember the movie “Missing Sunday”… make sure u don’t miss any Sunday…
And ok I must say… Win her over but with love and care… not with chloroform…
Here I have prepared a haddon’s matrix for rape…
Saira liaqat
rejected a boy for marriage
He burnt her with acid in the middle of the street
She has undergone plastic surgery 25 times to try to recover from her scars.
Shahnaz
Burnt with acid by a relative due to a familial dispute
Never undergone plastic surgery
Najaf
Burnt by her father because he didn’t want to have another girl in the family.
She has undergone plastic surgery around 15 times to try to recover from her scars… but lost her eyesight
This is a recent case of honour killing in Agra… the city of love…
Gudiya and mahesh were beaten, hanged from a tree, their bodies were cut into small pieces, and finally burnt by members of their own family…
And wat was their crime? They were distant cousins who fell in love… they were ordered to end their relationship by panchayat because it was affecting the honour of their community… and when they refused, they were given such a inhumane death sentence…
Laws are there but ineffective…
And they wil remain ineffective till Men are not sensitised into respecting women, respecting their rights, and giving them the freedom to live on their own terms, earn, be educated and enjoy an existence without fear.
Mothers have to teach their sons the lessons of humanity and their daughters the lessons of self-worth and self-dependence
Now as this module is about prevention, lets come to prevention part finally…
Society has to be changed and this changed can be brought only by us… Present generation… Women should be treated equal to men… not above, not below… Both sexes should respect each other…
Women must get proper education and be awared about their rights and powers against violence. They are not inferior to men in any way…
Poor, dalit women have to be motivated to be economically independent…
Women development programs have to be initiated and maintained and this also includes vocational courses to make them self-dependent
Family Counseling Centers are a platform where all family members can share their problems and get good counselling.
Family planning should be promoted
All the laws against violence should be implemented strictly because its our duty to protect the women… the better half of this world.
Effective cooperation between NGOs and Police is also important
Media should bring out all the atrocities towards women and create awareness among women about their strength and rights… instead of showing them as sex toys…
Again In the end, I must emphasize that real men don’t rape… real men don’t abuse women… real men respect woman and treat her with care and understanding…
Thank you…
