Reiki
What is Reiki?
• Reiki is a form of hands on healing, with its origins in India and the
East dating back many thousands of years to the time before Christ
and Buddha. The original name, disciplines and techniques of Reiki
were lost due to the traditional method of passing knowledge from
generation to generation by word of mouth.
• It was rediscovered by a Japanese Scholar and monk name Dr Mikao
Usui. In fact Dr Usui, fashioned the name REIKI.
• Rei-ki is a two syllable Japanese word meaning universal life force.
Although
• the proper Japanese pronunciation is RYE-KEY, it has been
westernized to RAY-KEY.
• .
• ‘Rei’ means universal, omnipresent – present everywhere at
the same time. Esoterically Rei means spiritual consciousness,
the omniscient wisdom from God or the higher self.
• ‘Ki’ is the non physical vitality that gives life to all living things.
Many cultures understand and recognize the importance of Ki
energy and how it impacts our lives and well-being
What is Reiki?
• Reiki is holistic; it works on the body, mind and spirit by stimulating a
person’s own natural healing abilities.
• The blocked emotional and physical elements that lead to illness and
disease are cleared. Reiki is neither positive nor negative; it is in fact
the highest and most profound vibration of life. Divine in origin, it
allows us all to become one with all things alive in our world. Reiki is
pure unconditional love and joy bringing all who experience and
embrace it principles together in harmony.
• Regular contact with Reiki will bring the recipients mind body and
spirit into balance. It will also help prevent future creation of illness
and disease.
History of Reiki
How Reiki works?
• Reiki is part of our genetic structure. An in built intelligence that
energizes the mind body and spirit. Reiki stimulates growth, health,
life and healing. When it is freely allowed to flow around the body it
can keep us alive and healthy.
• When a person is stressed and/or sick mentally, emotionally, or
physically, the body will respond by showing symptoms of “dis-ease.”
“Dis-ease” is a term used to describe when a body’s general health
and well-being is imbalanced or disrupted.
• For instance, people who have extended periods of stress or
pain often experience poor health due to a weakened immune
system that places them at risk for catching colds or
developing an infection. People with dementia may
experience behavioral signs of dis-ease such as agitation and
anxiety.
• Bad habits and poor choices result in the flow of Reiki being
stifled. It is important to note that Reiki cannot be destroyed.
Even when we die and the life force leaves our body it
continues to exist as part of the universe. Through neglect and
ignorance we abuse this vital component of life.
How Reiki works?
• Reiki is the key that unlocks the body’s optimum capabilities.
There are seven main energy centers in the body that control the
flow of the universal life force. They are called the Chakras. Each
chakra is responsible for supplying energy to specific parts of the
body. When they are blocked or clogged the body becomes sick
and the flow of energy is diluted.
• Reiki practitioners do not diagnose illness or disease. Reiki is a
complementary alternative technique that is used together with
and in support of traditional health practices. Reiki focuses on
rebalancing and restoring the body’s natural energy flow which
helps the recipient’s body get back into healthy balance so healing
can occur.
• Reiki practitioners place their hands in certain prescribed
positions on the body. Reiki practitioners are intuitively guided
in the placement of their hands so that the energy goes where
it is needed most. Although Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not
a religion and there is nothing a practitioner must believe in
spiritually to learn and use Reiki.
5 Principles of Reiki
• Just for today I will not worry.
• Just for today I will not be angry.
• Just for today I will do my work honestly.
• Just for today I will give thanks for my many
blessings.
• Just for today I will be kind to my neighbour and
every living thing.
The Reiki Session
Reiki can be performed on a person in a sitting or prone
position. Unlike therapeutic massge, the receiver is fully clothed.
During a Reiki session a practitioner will place their hands in
prescribed position that correspond to the body’s chakras.
A chakra is a hindu word referring to an area of energy found
within the body that controls the flow of energy. Each chakra
corresponds to the major organs in the body and glands of the
endocrine system. The standard hand position in Reiki treatment
follow these 7 chakras for rebalancing the energy flow.
While receiving Reiki, some people may become so relaxed they
fall asleep. A person may experience a feeling of warmth or
vibration in the area receiving Reiki.
Somepeoplemaycryastheirbodyrelaxesandrespondstorebalancing.After
asession,thereceivermayfeelespeciallyrelaxedandpeaceful.
Benefits to Reiki Practitioner
Not only does the practice of Reiki help those
receiving it, but it is also beneficial for the
practitioner. Consider an analogy of using a straw;
after sipping through a straw a little amount of
liquid remains inside the straw. The same is true
for the Reiki practitioner; some Universal energy
remains inside them after a treatment. So instead
of feeling tired or drained after conducting a
treatment, the Reiki practitioner feels relaxed and
often re-energized.
