                                                       Slide 4
Need to make important “what if” CAD changes?
Leverage NX powered by Synchronous Technology

If CAD geometry has features, you
can modify the model in it’s
                                         current state without regard for
                                         how the model was constructed
(ie you don’t need to know any of
                                         the CAD geometry dependencies)
If CAD geometry has no features
                                         (“dumb” imported geometry), you
“What if” scenario for CAE specialist
                                         can edit the geometry directly

                                                                    Slide 5

Modification of the model in it’s current state without regard for how
the model was constructed…that is what the CAE user needs!

Intent is what you intend to do now

                                                                       Slide 6
Active & Smart Selection

                                     Simply select a hole
                                     face and start point…
                                     two clicks … and edit
                                     the dimension

The model is updated as        Active Selection
expected, and the geometric    automatically recognizes
relationships are maintained geometric relationships …
                               coaxial, concentric, and
                               tangent in this case

                                                  Slide 7
Scrapbook Modeling

Re‐use portions of models without having to
manually segregate and remove parameters,
or export and import
Functional design change with or without features
Copy and paste geometry between files
 – Cut Face – detach face set and heal wound
 – Copy Face – copy to buffer for reuse
 – Paste Face – attach buffer

Synchronous Technology for Fluid
Domain Creation
Revolutionary Toolset for the NX Flow &
NX Electronic Systems Cooling Users

Most electronic systems cooling problems and many
CFD problems require generation of the 3D
   geometry representing the fluid domain

Once the 3D fluid domain geometry created, the
automatic fluid domain mesher can be used:
     Driven from the 3D geometry
     Detects internal flow blockage geometry
Automatically meshed with tetrahedral, wedge, and
     pyramid elements
Is usually bounded by walls, vents, and/or fans, and
     other openings
Creates a boundary layer mesh at walls where needed

Synchronous Technology generates the fluid domain
   geometry required…
Delete Face removes unwanted external surfaces
Seals up holes, vents, and/or fan openings with
     little/no user intervention
Automatically creates continuous 3D geometry for the
     fluid domain!

Other Fluid Domain Creation Techniques

 1. Fill it with Cuboids (Space Finder Method…)

 2. Assembly Wrapping Technique

 3. Extract Faces & Patch Holes

 4. Manual technique: create a large block and carve out
the fluid domain by multiple boolean operations and
    extrude/cut operations

                                                            Slide 23
[1] Fill it with Cuboids (Space Finder…)

This technique is typically used for quick conceptual CFD simulations. The “stepped” fluid domain geometry
created is a crude approximation and is unreliable for curved shapes (unless you use extremely small cubes and/or
take the time to locally refine your mesh…local small cubes tend to lead to very long CFD solve time unnecessarily)
                                                                                                          Slide 24
[2] Assembly Wrapping Technique

                                  Slide 25
[3] Extract Faces & Patch Holes

Scrapbook Modeling Re‐use portions of models without having to  manually segregate and remove parameters,  or export and import Functional design change with or without features Copy and paste geometry between files – Cut Face – detach face set and heal wound – Copy Face – copy to buffer for reuse – Paste Face – attach buffer  – Intelligent “add” and “subtract” attributes  on buffer for subsequent paste – Intelligent extension of buffer faces and target  faces Slide 8

Synchronous Technology for Fluid Domain Creation Revolutionary Toolset for the NX Flow & NX Electronic Systems Cooling Users Most electronic systems cooling problems and many  CFD problems require generation of the 3D  geometry representing the fluid domain Once the 3D fluid domain geometry created, the  automatic fluid domain mesher can be used: Driven from the 3D geometry Detects internal flow blockage geometry Automatically meshed with tetrahedral, wedge, and  pyramid elements Is usually bounded by walls, vents, and/or fans, and  other openings Creates a boundary layer mesh at walls where needed Synchronous Technology generates the fluid domain geometry required… Delete Face removes unwanted external surfaces Seals up holes, vents, and/or fan openings with  little/no user intervention Automatically creates continuous 3D geometry for the  fluid domain! • 24. [1] Fill it with Cuboids (Space Finder…) This technique is typically used for quick conceptual CFD simulations. The “stepped” fluid domain geometry  created is a crude approximation and is unreliable for curved shapes (unless you use extremely small cubes and/or  take the time to locally refine your mesh…local small cubes tend to lead to very long CFD solve time unnecessarily)  Slide 24
