1. SIBUGAY GC-NET SCORES THIRD CAREER FIESTA
Jobs creation is the
heart of the economic
agenda and one of the
major thrusts of the Aquino
administration. This means
putting
attention
to
expanding
local
employment
and
intensification
of
the
strategic solution to joband-skills mismatch. One of
the major interventions to mitigate job mismatch is the intensification of career
guidance in the high school level and provision of labor marker information to
college students to ensure effective career choices that is based on the skills
demands of industries and businesses.
In order to intensify the
campaign on career guidance
and labor market information the
Zamboanga Sibugay Guidance
Counselors Network has once
again
conducted
the
PROVINCIAL CAREER FIESTA 2013
with the theme “Follow the
Guide. Tag a Career. Like the
Future.” on November 22, 2013,
at Diplahan National High School
Zamboanga Sibugay.
The Career Fiesta was a
convergence activity of all
sectors involved in student
career
planning
–
the
students,
their
parents,
guidance counselors and
class advisers, prospective
colleges, and government
agencies whose functions
relate to jobs and livelihood.
It was an opportunity for
students
and
prospective
2. colleges to come together in one venue for a day of discovery of the right school
and the right course for students based on their personality inclinations and interest
and financial capacity.
This activity was hosted by the LGU of
Diplahan and Diplahan National High
School in partnership with various
agencies like the Office of the
Congresswoman of the1st District, DOLE,
DepEd, other Local Government Units in
the 1st District of Sibugay, and local
establishments in Diplahan and Buug.
The
one-day
search-interact-learn
activity was very successful and an overwhelming experience for the organizers. It
created a stir in the first district of Zamboanga Sibugay which involves seven
municipalities who made everyone eager to know about job mismatch, career
orientation, and labor market information.
It was participated by 21 high schools
in the province coming from both the
private and public schools. The
campaigning schools totaled 13 which
included colleges and universities from
Zamboanga City, Pagadian City and
Ipil. The event was graced by no less
than the DOLE Regional Director
himself, Director Sisinio B. Cano,
Education Supervisor of DepEd, Dr.
Mona Lisa L. Babiera and SB Member Jerry S. Jore who represented in behalf of the
Mayor of Diplahan, Cresencio S. Jore - the host
municipality.
In his message to one thousand five hundred twelve
students and 83 parents, Director Cano was very
happy with the career fiesta initiative of the
Guidance Counselors which is one of the strategic
solutions to combat job and skills mismatch of the
country. The intensification of career counseling to
graduating high school students is strongly
recommended to ensure effective career choices.
The DOLE will always partner with the Guidance
Counselors of Zamaboanga Sibugay to advocate
career guidance in the high school level.
3. The Department of Education also
recognized the importance of this
undertaking, evidence to that is the
successful conduct of the career
guidance week from July to August
2013 in close partnership with DOLE
and other government agencies. The
DepEd committed to always support
the Guidance Counselors Network in
their activities.
The Mayor of Diplahan, actively supported this event together with Congresswoman
Belma A. Cabilao of the first district by providing financial support to cover the meal
expenses in order to make this event possible.
Support
from
various
partners
also
poured
which includes the six local
government units who
provided transportation of
their students in going to
the venue, local business
establishments,
religious
and civic organizations
were
also
made
as
resource speakers, as well
as the police and the
military. While preparations
were heavy on the part of the organizers, it turned out to be economical and it
allowed mobilization of best resources from partners. It was an example of a publicprivate partnership working at its best. We hope to have more of this in the future.
