What should I know about Sars-
Cov2/ Covid 19?

How does Corona spread????
SOURCE- EXIT- RECEPIENT- ENTRY

When should I suspect corona?
• Fever
• Dry cough
• Severe body-ache/headache
• Difficulty in breathing
• Nausea/ Vomitting/Diarrhoea
• Nasal discharge/sore throat/sneezing/stuffy nose
• Loss of smell and loss of taste
• If U have any of these symptoms, call your family doctor. Do
not visit clinic without appointment
• Quarantine yourself till then

Am I at risk of severe Covid19
infection???
• All above age of 50 years ( not 60 in India)
• If you have any of these conditions:
• Obesity
• Uncontrolled Blood Pressure
• Uncontrolled diabetes
• Heart disease
• Kidney disease
• Asthma/COPD
• Cancer
• Organ transplant
• HIV/TB
• SMOKERS

What care can I take to protect myself?
• Source- exit- recipient- entry
• Source- and exit: Mask. Respiratory hygiene. Hand
hygiene. No spitting. Test and Isolate if have symptoms.
Take max care for 10 days
• Recipient and entry: Avoid the source- 6 feet distance.
Avoid crowd and closed places. Mask. Eye glasses. Do not
touch any surfaces. Hand hygiene.
• SMS: Safe distancing, mask, sanitization of hands
• DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE

Why and how should I wear a mask?
• Reduce risk of acquiring infection by 65-75%
• Mask should be like your dress- u do not go out without
a dress.
• 3 layer mask- cotton , home made
• Should cover your nose mouth, upto chin- all the time
• No handkerchief, duppatta, scarf, saree pallu
• Do not touch mask- inside or outside-hand hygiene if
your touch.
• Use straps to remove mask. Hand hygiene. Wash mask
• Safe disposal if use one – time use masks.

What care should I take if I have “cold”?
• If your have runny nose, cough, sneezing:
• Keep distance from others, avoid crowd
• Wear mask
• Always cough / sneeze in a handkerchief or paper
napkin. Do not share napkin with others.
• Dispose / wash napkin properly
• Do not touch face
• Hand hygiene
• NO SPITTING
• Its your responsibility to stop the infection from
spreading to others.

How would I know if my I am at high
risk getting infection….
• Staying in the same house without proper protection with COVID-
19 patient
• Staying in the same close environment as a COVID-19 patient
(including workplace, classroom, household, gatherings)
• Traveling/being together in close proximity (less than 2 m) with a
a/symptomatic person who later tested positive for COVID-19
• Person providing direct care to a COVID-19 patient without PPE
• Asymptomatic carriers- 2 to 14 days.
• 3 Cs: CLOSED PLACE , CROWDED PLACE, CLOSE CONTACT
• Time 10 to 15 mins

What if I come in close contact with a
corona positive person?
• DO NOT PANIC!!!!!! IF u are below 55 yrs and do not have
any risk factors, you are safe.
• Was the contact significant( see previous slide)
• If yes, quarantine yourself. Do not expose others – not to
step out please.
• Get yourself tested – RT-PCR swab from your throat.
• If test negative, still quarantine yourself and watch for
symptoms.
• If no symptoms for 14 days since exposure- u are lucky
• If symptoms, contact your doctor or call 1916.
• DO NOT DELAY!!!! Earlier the better.

What if my Corona test is positive ?????
• DO NOT PANIC!!!!! Stress reduces immunity
• 80% of Corona pos patients have no symptoms or only mild
symptoms.
• ISOLATION- ISOTALTION-ISOLATION. Home or institutional.
• Share names of significant contact with government agency
for testing and quarantining.
• Doctor will do blood tests, Xray chest/CT scan if needed
• Warm water gargles/ milk with turmeric/proper diet.
• Do not take “Crocin” unless temperature is above 102 F.
Fever is needed to kill virus.
• Doctor may start few drugs to relieve your symptoms
• Pulse oximeter- blood oxygen daily once
• If you have any risk factors, intense monitoring

Lockdown to Unlock

Crossing laxman rekha….
• Is it really important or urgent?
• Ensure you have no s/s/o Covid19
• Corona kit
• Arogya setu app with blue tooth on
• 2 to 3 masks (new or washed), eye glasses?
• Hand sanitizer
• Paper soap / liquid soap
• Paper napkins
• Dry-fruits, groundnuts, chana, lemon or amla juice, water
• 3 Cs: Avoid closed places, crowded places and close contact
• Do not touch any surface
• Do not touch face
• Do not “play with” mask

Entering your home again……
• Call home to open door for you- do not touch door bell
or door knob
• Keep your mobile, keys valet, earphone,etc in a tray and
spray/ wipe with alcohol based sanitizer
• Keep other things in a designated area, not to be
touched for 2 days or use after disinfecting
• Wash your hands before touching any thing or anyone
• Remove your mask touching just the straps and wash it.
• If been out for in closed, crowded place, take shower and
wash clothes with warm water and detergent.
• Maintain physical distancing with elderly and at risk
family members even at home.

High touch surfaces
• Door knobs, door bell
• Lift door, lift buttons
• Light switches
• Mobile, computer keyboard, laptop, tablet, earphone
• Remote controls
• Toilets, sinks, taps.
• Any surface “out-side” your control.
• Clean with alcohol wipes or sodium hypochlorite solution
• Wash hands after cleaning these surfaces

Role of Housing society

What role housingsocietycan play in Corona
prevention?
• Designated committee/ person in charge of corona related
precautions
• Full time person/s for housekeeping if large premises
• Ensure availability of sanitizer, soap, mops, paper napkins,
gloves, masks, dust bins, etc
• “Corona care charge” in maintenance bill
• Facilitation of daily purchases-bulk, pre-order purchase
• Care of elderly staying alone.
• Corona related sign boards
• Making a protocol rule book.

Protocol book for housing society
• Make your own rule book, together
• Policy for deliveries, visitors, drivers, housemaids, car cleaners, etc
• Policy for usage of common utilities like swimming pools, common
play areas, gym, walking area, Nana-Nani park, etc
• Policy for festivals, meetings, get-togethers inside the apartment
community.
• Policy for children playing outside, exercise outside
• Zero stigma or discrimination policy
• Preparedness if some society member turns positive
• Vacant apartment for home quarantine
• Policy for safe disposal of masks, gloves, PPE
• Who will ensure all rules are followed?

Security and housekeeping staff
• Is he/she from containment zone??

• Not to report for work if having s/s/o Covid19
• Training of mask use, respiratory and hand hygiene

• Sanitizer booth, make-shift wash basin paper napkins. Dustbin
• Visitor entry book to be handled by one person only

• Lemon juice, groundnuts, Vit D
• Hosting in society if facility available.
• Visitors: Comp mask, hand hygiene, distancing Arogya setu app,
thermal check????

Repeated training of staff about SMS

Disinfectionof commonpremisesor utility areas……
• Lobby, lifts, lift areas on each floor, common bathroom,
sitting area in lobby, park, staircase, corridors, railings, gates
security guard booth, office, gates- mop with sodium hypo-
chlorite/ phenol (avoid metal surfaces). Ideally 2 times a day
• High contact surfaces such elevator buttons, handrails /
handles and call buttons, counters, intercom systems,
telephone, printers/scanners, etc – mop with 1% sodium
hypochlorite 2 to 3 times a day.
• For metallic surfaces like door handles, security locks, keys ,
lift buttons, etc- wipe with 70% alcohol
• If someone sneezes or coughs, vacate and clean the area
with 1% sodium hypochlorite solution

• Directly go to bathroom to wash hands and feet
• Compulsory mask and safe distancing
• Can safely do mopping, cleans utensils, washing clothes, cleaning
bathrooms and toilets, etc
• Should not touch any door knobs, light switches, furniture, table top
without hand hygiene.
• Cooking – with care. No salads, or things to be eaten raw.
• Elderly and at risk individuals esp should maintain safe distance and
wear mask
• Ensure her wellbeing: ration,nimbu paani, chai, groundnuts, vit D, etc

Lessons we need to learn…..
• Hand hygiene: Diarrheal diseases, typhoid, Hep A-E, pneumonia, drug
resistant org.
• Mask: Respiratory viruses, air pollution (?)
• Work from home: Less green house gases, less road traffic accidents, ?
Happier.
• Awareness of health- diet , exercise, naturopathy, veg food,etc.
• Awareness of mental health: Slowed pace of life, yoga, hobbies,etc.
• Addictions: Time to rethink. Many have experienced a drug free period.
• Resurgence of nature- low air. water and noise pollution, birds, animals.
• Money matters for happiness. But in giving away , not in accumulating.
A microscopic virus had to come to teach the most “intelligent” being on
earth the basics of living healthy and balanced life.
