Housing Network of Rhode Island Holds
Annual Meeting at Sandywoods in Tiverton
Tiverton—a mass of attentive public and over twenty non-profit community development corporations
assembled at Sandywoods Center for the Arts Development in Tiverton, RI listened intently to hear
Barrington Town Council President and professor at Roger Williams University, June Speakman talk
about the importance of projects such as Sweetbriar in helping local communities meet their 10%
affordable housing requirement.
Housing Network Executive Director Chris Hannifan opened his address to the audience after being
introduced by slate of officers by saying, “The Housing Network of Rhode Island is a state association
of twenty non-profit Community Development Corporations (CDC’s). Our members have created
thousands of affordable housing units throughout the state, from Newport to Warwick and Providence
to Woonsocket.”
Homeownership Connection program started in 1995 and offers financial support and homeownership
education. 1000 Rhode Islanders graduate from their classes each year.
The Housing Network of Rhode Island is an association of non-profit community development
corporations. They are now in their second decade of working to connect CDCs and facilitate the
sharing of resources between them. The Housing Network is dedicated to the advancement of the
creating affordable housing in Rhode Island and continues to champion non-profit housing
corporations, as well as policies and programs that help create and maintain affordable housing.
