2. Background and ownership The New Musical Express (better known as the NME) is a popular music magazine in the United Kingdom which has been published weekly since March 1952. It was the first British paper to include a singles chart, which first appeared in the 14 November 1952 edition. The magazine's commercial heyday was during the 1970s when it became the best-selling British music magazine. During the period 1972 to 1976 it was particularly associated with gonzo journalism, then became closely associated with punk rock through the writing of Tony Parsons and Julie Burchill. KrissiMurisonwas named the magazine's eleventh editor on 29 July 2009.The magazine's first female editor, she took over on 1 September 2009. The paper's first issue was published on 7 March 1952 after the Musical Express and Accordion Weekly was bought by London music promoter Maurice Kinn, and relaunched as the New Musical Express. It was initially published in a non-glossy tabloid format on standard newsprint. On 14 November 1952, taking its cue from the U.S. magazine Billboard, it created the first UK Singles Chart. The first of these was, in contrast to more recent charts, a top twelve sourced by the magazine itself from sales in regional stores around the UK. The first number one was "Here In My Heart" by Al Martino.
9. Promoting The Industry Ad Other Products: Radio NME Radio is the radio station from NME magazine, that broadcasts a new and alternative music format. It first began broadcasting on 24 June 2008. It is owned and operated by DX Media from studios in the Blue Fin Building on London's South Bank, also home to NME magazine's parent company IPC Media. NME Radio was created to 'fill the void' that was created after XFM London was bought out by Capital Radio when some believe it turned into a second version of Virgin Radio in 1998. As a result a lot of the presenters are former XFM DJ's. Along with music, NME Radio features music news, gig-guides and live sessions. The station's co-founder and Managing Director is the creator of XFM, Sammy Jacob.
10. Promoting The Industry Ad Other Products: TV NME TV is a British music television channel owned and operated by CSC Media Group (formerly Chart Show Channels). This is a similar arrnagement to its radio station, NME Radio, which is operated by DX Media. The channel replaced Minx on 22 November 2007. NME TV kicked off at 6.00am that day with "Up the Bracket" by the Libertines.
11. Content and Approach to Music The content of NME is based around mainstreams. This is because of the different sub-cultures of today’s society. The NME is an attractive magazine, which attracts many teenages. This is because it is focuses on the bands, gigs, listing the up coming gigs and listing the up to date music charts. NME is known to have all these features and more. They promise to have the “first on music news” with these entire top artists in their articles. The regular artists they have on EMA are The Killers, Kings Of Leon, Green Day, Fran Ferdinand and Fall out boy. The main focus for the content is the current artists who are producing new material and songs. Also within the magazine there are many adverts that some readers keep because they are very amusing adverts. There is also a section within the NME magazine where the readers have a chance to have their letters published and people then can then discusses their views. This lets everyone have an opinion and makes the readers feel included within the magazines. The letters can be based around any form of music, even if that band is not previously mentioned in the magazine. The gig guides are very interesting for the music however near the end of the magazine there is special section, which is written by an artist. The mode of address through these two types of features in a magazine is very reflective and informal. Both of these bring in readers because it evolves the reader and their views.
