F

ood is the fundamental right of every individual,
but still hunger is one of the most common
problem plaguing our country. World Food Week
was an effort to eliminate the ever existing difference
between food demands and supply which is the key to
the rampant hunger and malnutrition in our country
with a quarter of the world's hungry and a third of all
malnourished children living here. DLF Foundation,
along with Indian Food Banking Network, runs the
food bank in Gurgaon which is the first Food Bank in
the country. We recently celebrated the World Food
Day and the glimpses of the event are shared in this
newsletter.
As a continuation to our efforts to make Gurgaon a
world-class city, we participated in the Peace
(Sadbhawna) March for a safe and secure Gurgaon city
and the response we got from the residents was truly
overwhelming. A conference on ‘Gurgaon as a Smart
City’ was also held.
Other two important initiatives - talent nurturing and
skilling - have been taken upon ourselves for the
underprevileged. A report on activities at various
schools is also discussed here. The schools were alive
with the various festivities in the last two months and
the happiness and cheerfulness in these schools was
truly enigmatic. Besides, DLF provides outpatient
services at the construction sites and an account on
the same is also given here.
Happy reading!

Efforts towards making India a hunger-free country

D

LF Foundation has partnered with India Food
Banking Network on 'World Food Day'
Seminar and Facilitation of companies
participating in the food drive held at Shangri-La Hotel,
New Delhi. The Honourable Minister of State for
Communication and Information Technology, Shri
Sachin Pilot graced the occasion where DLF
Foundation was awarded as the mission partner of the
unique initiative.

Foundation also provides infrastructural support to
Food Security Foundation.

The Food Drive Challenge during the World Food Week
(October 5-12, 2012) successfully attained its main
objective of '100,000 individuals raising 100,000 kilos
of food for 500,000 Meals'. It is an effort to eliminate
the ever existing difference between food demands
and supply which is the key to the rampant hunger and
malnutrition in our country with a quarter of the
world's hungry and a third of all malnourished children
living here.
DLF Foundation, along with Indian Food Banking
Network, runs the food bank in Gurgaon which is the
first Food Bank in the country. DLF Foundation stores
the food items donated by corporates from food
related business in the country and distributes it to the
underprivileged population of Delhi-NCR region. The

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rajender Singh, CEO of DLF Foundation
said, “DLF Foundation expresses a great satisfaction
on the success of the Food Drive initiated by India
Food Banking Network with the support of all its
partners. DLF Foundation's partnership with the Delhi
Government's Bhagidari programme - 'Aapki Rasoi', is
another such initiative like Food Drive where we
provide free mid-day meals to around 300 homeless
disabled people at a temporary hutment site at India
Gate every day.”
Further elaborating the DLF Foundation's
contribution, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rajender Singh added,
“Over 1,600 children, who are engaged in activities
like rag picking, working at roadside dhabas or as
domestic servants and never had the opportunity to
attend school, now get a healthy cooked mid-day meal
along with free education. This also helps in
maintaining high retention levels in our educational
initiatives. We understand there is much more to be
done consistently to make India a hunger free nation
and the Foundation will continue to render its support
to such great initiatives.”

could be made possible with dedication and untiring
efforts put in by the teachers and the management of

of all the three schools has crossed 1200 students and
the average daily attendance is more than 800.

will not have enough time to take their children to a
crèche or to a nearby school, the DLF Katha School
Programme offers crèche cum school facility to them.
Here, learning is fun through its great innovative
programme story pedagogy. The school's space
designing makes the characters of the stories come
alive and makes learning more interesting, fun filled
and creates enough excitement in the children to
attend school regularly.
The modus operandi…
A cab with seven teachers touches six centres (six
sectors) across Gurgaon and Manesar every day.

  • 2. EDITORIAL From the Editor's Desk F ood is the fundamental right of every individual, but still hunger is one of the most common problem plaguing our country. World Food Week was an effort to eliminate the ever existing difference between food demands and supply which is the key to the rampant hunger and malnutrition in our country with a quarter of the world's hungry and a third of all malnourished children living here. DLF Foundation, along with Indian Food Banking Network, runs the food bank in Gurgaon which is the first Food Bank in the country. We recently celebrated the World Food Day and the glimpses of the event are shared in this newsletter. As a continuation to our efforts to make Gurgaon a world-class city, we participated in the Peace (Sadbhawna) March for a safe and secure Gurgaon city and the response we got from the residents was truly overwhelming. A conference on ‘Gurgaon as a Smart City’ was also held. Other two important initiatives - talent nurturing and skilling - have been taken upon ourselves for the underprevileged. A report on activities at various schools is also discussed here. The schools were alive with the various festivities in the last two months and the happiness and cheerfulness in these schools was truly enigmatic. Besides, DLF provides outpatient services at the construction sites and an account on the same is also given here. Happy reading! • 3. COVER STORY DLF Foundation Partners with India Food Banking Network on 'World Food Day' Efforts towards making India a hunger-free country D LF Foundation has partnered with India Food Banking Network on 'World Food Day' Seminar and Facilitation of companies participating in the food drive held at Shangri-La Hotel, New Delhi. The Honourable Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Shri Sachin Pilot graced the occasion where DLF Foundation was awarded as the mission partner of the unique initiative. Foundation also provides infrastructural support to Food Security Foundation. The Food Drive Challenge during the World Food Week (October 5-12, 2012) successfully attained its main objective of '100,000 individuals raising 100,000 kilos of food for 500,000 Meals'. It is an effort to eliminate the ever existing difference between food demands and supply which is the key to the rampant hunger and malnutrition in our country with a quarter of the world's hungry and a third of all malnourished children living here. DLF Foundation, along with Indian Food Banking Network, runs the food bank in Gurgaon which is the first Food Bank in the country. DLF Foundation stores the food items donated by corporates from food related business in the country and distributes it to the underprivileged population of Delhi-NCR region. The Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rajender Singh, CEO of DLF Foundation said, “DLF Foundation expresses a great satisfaction on the success of the Food Drive initiated by India Food Banking Network with the support of all its partners. DLF Foundation's partnership with the Delhi Government's Bhagidari programme - 'Aapki Rasoi', is another such initiative like Food Drive where we provide free mid-day meals to around 300 homeless disabled people at a temporary hutment site at India Gate every day.” Further elaborating the DLF Foundation's contribution, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rajender Singh added, “Over 1,600 children, who are engaged in activities like rag picking, working at roadside dhabas or as domestic servants and never had the opportunity to attend school, now get a healthy cooked mid-day meal along with free education. This also helps in maintaining high retention levels in our educational initiatives. We understand there is much more to be done consistently to make India a hunger free nation and the Foundation will continue to render its support to such great initiatives.” Building Lives, November 2012 3
