2. Facial Proportion The distance between the top of the head to the center of the eyes is ½ of the heads height. The distance between the center of the eyes and the tip of the nose is ½ of the lower half of the face. The remaining half is the distance between the tip of the nose and the chin. This same distance happens to be the distance between the brow (ridge above the eyes) to the typical hairline.
6. The mouth is centered halfway between the bottom of the nose and the bottom of the chin.
7. The top of the eyebrows are about one eye height above the center line that the eyes rest on.
8.
9. Draw the eyes on the horizontal line you drew to divide the face in half. Remember that the head is approximately 5 eyes wide here. Make a mark halfway between the eye line and the bottom of the chin. This is the bottom of the nose. Make another mark halfway between the bottom of the nose and the bottom of the chin. This is the center of the mouth.
10. Draw lines vertically down from the inside corners of the eyes. These lines will define the outside of the nostrils. Draw vertical lines down from the center of the eyes. This will define the width of the mouth.
11. The top of the eyebrows are about one eye height above the center line the eyes are drawn on. The width of the eyebrows can be defined by drawing a vertical line up from the inside corner of the eyes. The brows will begin here. To get the outside dimension of the eyebrow, draw diagonal lines from the tip of the nose through the outside corners of the eyes. The eyebrows stop here. The ears begin at the top of the eyebrow and end at the tip of the nose.
12. Now draw the hairline. It is about halfway between the center line the eyes are drawn on and the top of the head. Last is the neck. The neck is about ¾ the width of the head. In 9 steps you drew a proportional human head!
