Guadeloupe is an overseas region of France located in the Caribbean Sea. It consists of nine islands with a total population of around 400,000 people. The main islands are Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre, which are separated by a narrow channel. Tourism and agriculture, especially bananas, are the primary economic activities. Guadeloupe has been under French control since 1635 and uses the Euro currency.
