Why Is Honesty Important
Why Is Honesty Important? The Impact of Honesty on Me Honesty has played a key role in my
success in life. Throughout my childhood my parents would always remind me about the importance
of being honest. In their opinion nothing was as important as having self–respect and being
trustworthy. The saying "honesty is the best policy" perfectly sums up my belief about how
people should interact with each other. For me, being honest in everything I do can be a very
difficult thing, but I have found that as I follow this basic principle my life has become better for
it. Growing up in my home as a child, I was surrounded by honesty and integrity. I assumed that the
world was a great place where all people genuinely cared...show more content...

Why Is Honesty Is The Best Policy?
Fall 2014 From early childhood, we have been taught the importance of the statement that honesty is
the best policy. Yet we often see stories in the news about politicians and other public figures
deceiving others. In this three–credit independent study, Odell Tamir Armwood will look for
instances in which public figures have betrayed public trust. Moreover, he will attempt to
identify how they attempted to justify what they did and the consequences of their actions. Also,
he will be expected to include thoughts on why honesty is, after all, important. NFL
Commissioner Robert Goodell and Former Ravens RB Ray Rice There are thousands of public
figures who are in the spotlight every day. Some are shining on like stars for doing good things.
Others are fighting judgements from society in general for the things they have done wrong. No
one is a saint. Definitely, no one is perfect. But everyone should try to be as good as they can be.
When and if he or she has done something wrong, how they handle it is what matters.
Accountability is important. Owning up to your mistakes is what makes you a better person.
However, there are people who keep doing the things that hurt them or others around them. They are
the ones who have no care for the consequences of their actions, thinking they will get away with it
one way or another. Like Richard Nixon, Robert Goddell has joined lists of people who have caused
the public to not trust him or the organization he represents– the

I Believe in Honesty
I believe..... in honesty
I strongly believe that honesty is the best policy. Let's not go overboard and think that I never tell
little white lies, because I do, but usually it is to spare someone's feelings. I have learned
throughout the course of many years that telling big lies only leads to more lies. What will happen
when you tell those lies? You will usually end up telling one lie to cover up another lie and
eventually, you will end up telling on yourself.
I remember this story so vividly because it was quite an embarrassing situation for me. It was a
beautiful day outside and my mom wanted to go shopping, I hated shopping but I was tired of being
at home so, I agreed to go with her. I was 12 years old and I remember wearing...show more content...
She told me to get out. I wasn't sure what was happening, why did I need to get out of the car?
She grabbed my hand and proceeded to walk me inside, very matter of factly. What? What was
going on? We were walking very fast, and it appeared that she was marching. We walked inside and
she asked for a manager. "OH NO!" I thought to myself. The manager came over and she gave me a
look and it didn't take a genius to know what she wanted me to do. I took the perfume from my
mom's hand and I gave it to the manager, and then I looked down at the floor in shame. I was
reminded by my mother that I was forgetting something, an apology to the manager. I did
apologize and he gave me a look I'll never forget, that dreaded look of utter disappointment, the
same as my mother had given me. I felt so ashamed and my heart continued to beat faster and
faster as he spoke to me, "I could call the police and have you arrested". "Blah, blah, blah..." was
how the rest of the conversation went. I could only concentrate on the "I could call the police and
have you arrested", that's it. I was completely and utterly afraid. I was 12 years old, would they
really arrest me? I had all of these thoughts going through my mind and my mother looked at me and
said, "I'm so disappointed, and you should be ashamed." Oh, I was definitely ashamed AND
mortified! It was never mentioned again after that. But it left a huge impact on me, one I'll never
forget.

Integrity and Honesty Integrity can be defined as "an uncompromising adherence to a code of
moral, artistic or other values, utter sincerity, honesty and candor, avoidance of deception,
expediency, artificiality or shallowness of any kind" (Webster's 3rd New International Dictionary
1174). In simpler words this means to maintain high standards and follow the rules, even when no
one is watching. Integrity is very important in our everyday life if we wish to be good people. The
sad thing is that if you ask some people what integrity means to them they will probably tell you
that it doesn't mean much and some may not even know what integrity is. Certain people feel that

Having a high standard of personal integrity and honesty will really help prepare one for
employment in the justice field in many different ways. Integrity and honesty is one of the most
important requirements for any criminal justice career. It is extremely important to know what
is right and wrong and to be honest no matter what the consequences if you are planning on
entering the justice field, especially a police officer. Police officers must commit to the highest
moral and ethical standards, they can't be prejudice or favor someone without knowing every
single detail, must show good personal conduct, have high integrity on and off duty, and plenty
more. One major reason to have a high standard of integrity and honesty at all times is because if
you are a person who has ever been in trouble for something that showed you had been dishonest
(such as theft, cheating, lying, and more) and you apply for a job in the justice field, they will
most likely find it no matter how off your record it supposedly is and you will not be hired. In their
minds they are most likely thinking that if you could be dishonest once then you can be dishonest
again and they don't want someone likely that employed with them. Another reason to have a high
standard of integrity and honesty at all times would be because if you were able

Franklin And Honesty
Benjamin Franklin said, "Honesty is the best policy." I do not agree with him, I think that honesty
is not the best. Honesty has its flaws, but to me, lying is (most of the time) the best policy. For
example, when a friend about hair color and the color you want your friends hair to be, would not
suit them. In general, lying is best because, someone could be emotional, the truth could include
useless details, and could save your reputation.
Honesty is good but, it can hurt other people's feelings and emotions. Imagine if your friend wanted
advice on clothing, and you thought that what you wanted them to wear didn't look good on them.
Especially if your friend is sensitive or emotional, being ridiculed because of their clothing would be

Honesty Is The Best Policy Essay
Honesty is the Best Policy Yuki Toda The Honest Woodcutter, is one of Aesop's Fables. It tells a
story where a woodcutter drops his axe into a river by accident. Because this is his only means of
livelihood, he sits and weeps. A Goddess takes pity on this man, and dives into the river returning
with a golden axe. She asks amicably, "is this what you have lost?" The man answers it is not,
and gives the Goddess the same answer when she returns with a silver axe. He only claims the axe
when she returns what is really his, neither gold nor silver. Impressed by his honesty, the Goddess
allows the man to keep all three axes. The moral of this story is of course, honesty is the best
policy. What determines our decisions of what is right or what is wrong? How do our brains decide
to be honest or dishonest? Answering these questions can help us gain more insight into human
communication. The gold axe in the Honest Woodcutter is what Greene, a psychologist at Harvard
University, describes as the "opportunities of dishonest gain" in his research. There are two
hypotheses in scientific literature that explain human decisions for lying. The Will hypothesis
predicts our brains play an active role in being honest and must resist temptations to lie. The
woodcutter may have had the urge to lie to the goddess, but actively resisted the temptation. On the
other hand, the Grace hypothesis predicts our honesty comes naturally as long as there is no
temptation, making honesty a passive process.

The Role Of Honesty In The Great Gatsby
Renowned inventor and Founding Father Benjamin Franklin once said that "Honesty is the best
policy." Being honest is a very noble quality and everyone should strive to be truthful. However,
this task is much easier said than done. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the
narrator "Nick Carraway" is intended to demonstrate that no matter how hard someone tries,
personal opinions always influence one's decisions and impressions of other people. Nick's
unreliability as a narrator, the way his decisions affect the other characters, and the way Fitzgerald
chose to present Nick as a character are all great points of evidence that support this theory. Nick
thinks of himself as being a very non–judgemental person as he says at...show more content...
Scott Fitzgerald chose to tell the story of The Great Gatsby in a somewhat unconventional way by
using a narrator that is a main character himself. Fitzgerald presents Nick in a specific way to
serve a particular purpose. Fitzgerald uses Nick to demonstrate that people naturally judge others
and that it is impossible for someone to remain completely unbiased when making these
judgments. Usually, the sole purpose of the narrator is to give a medium in which to tell the story,
but Nick tells the story and is involved in it at the same time. He has his own thoughts and feels
different emotions throughout the novel and some of these emotions and feelings creep into his
recollection of what happened. Because of this, the reader feels a stronger connection to him but
at the same time, can be easily persuaded to have the same opinions as him about other characters.
This also may be why Nick changed the most throughout the novel. He started out as a young man
who is looking to make his fortune in the bond business out east but ends up moving back west
because he is fed up with the corruption and greed that comes with the wealthy lifestyle of the east
coast. At the close of the novel Nick says this about the eastern lifestyle, "They were careless
people, Tom and DaisyвЋјthey smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their
money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people
clean up the mess they had made."

The Importance Of Honesty
Honesty
Would you call yourself honest if you never have the chance to be dishonest? Honesty is the
foundation upon which a person builds any relationship with their loved ones such as family or
friends. Being honest to loved ones, will make them feel that they are trustworthy and close enough

she said, "Tomorrow we will go to school and give it back to whoever this money belongs to."

Principal. She was crying like a river, kissing my mother, and thanking her over and over for her
honesty and the great example she was to me. At that the moment I understood why she wanted to
give the money back. It belonged to the Principal who put the folder on my desk, while she was
giving the last minute announcement the day before. I had been in a hurry and I shoved the folder
in my back pack by accident. My mother never told me that what we did was called honesty. We
never talked about the incident. I learned by her example what the right choice was, and it changed
my life forever.
Shakespeare once said, "Honesty is the best policy. If I lose my honor, I lose myself." From his
quote, it is clear that Shakespeare thinks honor is more important than anything else in life. Honesty
is a virtue that is uniquely valued by human beings as well by our Heavenly Father. Being honest
often requires courage and sacrifice, especially when others try to persuade us to justify dishonest
behavior.

Honesty, the quality of being honest, is a value which can be defined in multiple ways. In the context

Honesty is classified as a noun in part of speech. Honesty has many similar meanings; such as
uprightness, morality, trustworthiness, goodness, scrupulousness, decency, rectitude, righteousness,
fairness, reliability and honor. These synonyms are all equal to truth. The meaning of honesty in

There is also another different meaning of honesty, such as plants with flat papery seed pods: a

Honesty In The Canterbury Tales
Honesty is the best policy; a phrase that's been around nearly as long as lies themselves. The
book; The Canterbury Tales by Geofferey Chaucer displays how the dishonesty of society is
timeless. This is first displayed in "The General Prologue" through the descriptions of the pilgrims.
This is also shown in "The Miller's Tale" and "The Reeve's Tale". Chaucer also conveys that truth is
preferable to lies by explaining what terrible punishments befell those who did lie. While those who
lied did succeed and profit from their lies; eventually the lies caught up to them and they end up
paying a price greater than what they earned.
"The General Prologue" briefly describes each of the pilgrims and The Host. "The General
Prologue" also includes brief commentary from the narrator; Chaucer. This commentary acts as
characterization for all the pilgrims. But the commentary, besides establishing each character,
exhibits Chaucer's opinion on each of the characters, and their flaws. Many of the pilgrims are
describes as dishonest or corrupt. A prime example of this is the Prioress who is describes as
"Pleasant and friendly in her ways, and straining To counterfeit a courtly kind of grace, A stately
bearing fitting to her place, And to seem dignified in all her dealings"(pp 6, 7). These two lines are
the only lines that betray the Prioress, revealing that her dignified persona is merely a façade. A

people view honesty as the foremost virtue in a trustworthy person. However, this world is tainted

Honesty is the best policy. We have always been taught this and also that to lie is a bad thing to do.
There is a certain beauty in living life with honesty. While the benefits of and motivations for
choosing honesty in life are many – including that truthfulness and honesty are integral to one's
sense of moral integrity – living a life of honesty ultimately means having little to regret. Living
with honesty is less about persistently resorting to truth over deception, and is more about living
your life in a way that is "honest" to who you are on the inside – your strengths, your gifts, and your

In many situations it is a good idea to keep quiet or, better still, be diplomatic and tactfully handle
sensitive issues. The line dividing honesty and diplomacy is a thin one. We have to be careful in
deciding when to be honest and when to be at our diplomatic best. We also have to decide whether
we should be absolutely candid, or use the truth as a matter of convenience.
Wars are won by words not weapons. For centuries people have tried to solve their problems by
negotiation. To escape conflicts and wars they have used words to persuade their opponents. That is
where diplomacy begins. Diplomacy is an intellectual activity and decision making derived from
ongoing analysis of current situations. Diplomacy includes the combination of ways and abilities
which any state can use for its worthy existence in the world and for establishing cooperation with
other members of international community.
In modern day and age, one has to practice diplomacy as it is essential to get one's way in a world
that is highly competitive. What you say matters a lot. One has to be careful while conveying issues
as they would have an impact on one's surroundings. Building up of personal relationships depends
upon your choice of words, how you convey them to the concerned

Honesty Is The Best Policy
Benjamin Franklin, of one–hundred–dollar bill fame, once said that "honesty is the best policy"
(Franklin). This seems like a good thing, however if you use the common definition of honesty, of
never telling a lie, then I would disagree with dear Ben, honesty is not the best policy. If I had to
create my own definition of honesty to replace the common definition, I would say that to be
honest, would be to stay true. True to others, true to the world, and true to yourself. To get to how
I came up with this definition we have to go back to the common definition of honesty, which is
not to tell lies. Back when I was a much younger version of myself, in about 2nd grade or so, I
remember telling outrageous lies, lies that are completely impossible for an adult to achieve,
much less a meager 2nd grader. I remember a time when one of the other kids said that they have
three dogs, and then someone else said that they had four dogs, which was more than I had ever
had, so I said that I had five dogs, because having more dogs makes me cool, right? Well someone
else said that they had more animals, and someone else said they had even more animals, and then
someone said that they have some exotic animals, and it ended up with a table of 2nd graders who
owned more animals than were in the entire state of North Carolina and somehow kept them
contained in suburban homes hidden away from the ASPCA. I believe I ended up having an entire

will eliminate untrue or misleading information. Leaders must work hard and be accurate to
prevent misunderstandings. It is important to remember "not to play to the audience," and say
different things to different groups of people (Bushey, p. 5) as this will lead to a significant loss of
trust and possible arguments will be established. Always be honest, sincere and candid and never
take advantage of another person's trust, while at the same time there must be fairness. There may
be times when dishonesty may be justified, but this should only happen for safety reasons such as
lying to criminals or terrorists in order to save lives. When being dishonest it should only be for
those reasons just stated and not for winning a game or hitting a sales target to avoid confrontation.

The Is The Best Policy Essay
In certain situations, women lie because it is socially necessary.
"Honesty is the best policy" is an ideology spoken by many, but practiced by few. The most
common reason for this is obvious, we want to protect the feelings of others. We have been taught
at a very young age that lying is unacceptable, but by the age of five we are explicitly encouraged by
our parents to lie when we are told to tell grandma how much we absolutely love the itchy, ugly
sweater we got for Christmas.
Lying is necessary to maintain positive relationships. Society condones lying when our intentions are
to preserve the feelings of others.
Woman are required to lie for social purposes. We don't want to hear the truth all the time. The truth
hurts. We don't want the painful burden of always telling the truth. It's hurtful for those around us
and we will ,without a doubt lose all friendships.
If she wants to maintain a good relationship with her friends, she cannot be brutally honest all the
time. Especially, when handling romantic relationships. If her friend's boyfriend breaks up with her,
she is forced to lie:
Friend 1: WTH! Ben just broke up with me! There better not be another girl! I hate him so much!
Friend 2: No way! What happened? You two were perfect together. He doesn't know what he's
missing. He's stupid for letting you go.

all religions of the world encourage honesty in all affairs of life. If one person behaves and acts in
an honest manner, then he will ultimately be rewarded either in a direct way or some indirect way.
The individual will get benefit by adopting the characteristic of honesty.
If one person is not honest, then he may have to speak several lies throughout his life. He will
have to speak lies in order to hide other lies. As a result, the chain of lies will continue that will
ultimately result in personal as well as a religious loss for the individual. Similarly, if an individual
speaks the truth and does not lie with others, then he will be rewarded in either way. Therefore, it
can be said that the people should not lie with others.
One part of honesty means to act in a certain way towards other. However, another part of the
definition of honesty means to treat others in a way you expect others to treat you. Similarly, this
definition of honesty means to be honest with yourself. If you consider yourself in a situation while
treating other, then it is more likely to be treated in a more lively, ethical and honest

Honesty Is The Best Policy Essay

  • 1. Why Is Honesty Important Why Is Honesty Important? The Impact of Honesty on Me Honesty has played a key role in my success in life. Throughout my childhood my parents would always remind me about the importance of being honest. In their opinion nothing was as important as having self–respect and being trustworthy. The saying "honesty is the best policy" perfectly sums up my belief about how people should interact with each other. For me, being honest in everything I do can be a very difficult thing, but I have found that as I follow this basic principle my life has become better for it. Growing up in my home as a child, I was surrounded by honesty and integrity. I assumed that the world was a great place where all people genuinely cared...show more content... • 2. Why Is Honesty Is The Best Policy? Fall 2014 From early childhood, we have been taught the importance of the statement that honesty is the best policy. Yet we often see stories in the news about politicians and other public figures deceiving others. In this three–credit independent study, Odell Tamir Armwood will look for instances in which public figures have betrayed public trust. Moreover, he will attempt to identify how they attempted to justify what they did and the consequences of their actions. Also, he will be expected to include thoughts on why honesty is, after all, important. NFL Commissioner Robert Goodell and Former Ravens RB Ray Rice There are thousands of public figures who are in the spotlight every day. Some are shining on like stars for doing good things. Others are fighting judgements from society in general for the things they have done wrong. No one is a saint. Definitely, no one is perfect. But everyone should try to be as good as they can be. When and if he or she has done something wrong, how they handle it is what matters. Accountability is important. Owning up to your mistakes is what makes you a better person. However, there are people who keep doing the things that hurt them or others around them. They are the ones who have no care for the consequences of their actions, thinking they will get away with it one way or another. Like Richard Nixon, Robert Goddell has joined lists of people who have caused the public to not trust him or the organization he represents– the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. I Believe in Honesty I believe..... in honesty I strongly believe that honesty is the best policy. Let's not go overboard and think that I never tell little white lies, because I do, but usually it is to spare someone's feelings. I have learned throughout the course of many years that telling big lies only leads to more lies. What will happen when you tell those lies? You will usually end up telling one lie to cover up another lie and eventually, you will end up telling on yourself. I remember this story so vividly because it was quite an embarrassing situation for me. It was a beautiful day outside and my mom wanted to go shopping, I hated shopping but I was tired of being at home so, I agreed to go with her. I was 12 years old and I remember wearing...show more content... She told me to get out. I wasn't sure what was happening, why did I need to get out of the car? She grabbed my hand and proceeded to walk me inside, very matter of factly. What? What was going on? We were walking very fast, and it appeared that she was marching. We walked inside and she asked for a manager. "OH NO!" I thought to myself. The manager came over and she gave me a look and it didn't take a genius to know what she wanted me to do. I took the perfume from my mom's hand and I gave it to the manager, and then I looked down at the floor in shame. I was reminded by my mother that I was forgetting something, an apology to the manager. I did apologize and he gave me a look I'll never forget, that dreaded look of utter disappointment, the same as my mother had given me. I felt so ashamed and my heart continued to beat faster and faster as he spoke to me, "I could call the police and have you arrested". "Blah, blah, blah..." was how the rest of the conversation went. I could only concentrate on the "I could call the police and have you arrested", that's it. I was completely and utterly afraid. I was 12 years old, would they really arrest me? I had all of these thoughts going through my mind and my mother looked at me and said, "I'm so disappointed, and you should be ashamed." Oh, I was definitely ashamed AND mortified! It was never mentioned again after that. But it left a huge impact on me, one I'll never forget. Fast forward to 2013, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 5. Integrity and Honesty Integrity can be defined as "an uncompromising adherence to a code of moral, artistic or other values, utter sincerity, honesty and candor, avoidance of deception, expediency, artificiality or shallowness of any kind" (Webster's 3rd New International Dictionary 1174). In simpler words this means to maintain high standards and follow the rules, even when no one is watching. Integrity is very important in our everyday life if we wish to be good people. The sad thing is that if you ask some people what integrity means to them they will probably tell you that it doesn't mean much and some may not even know what integrity is. Certain people feel that in order to get ahead in life they need to break certain rules. It is...show more content... Having a high standard of personal integrity and honesty will really help prepare one for employment in the justice field in many different ways. Integrity and honesty is one of the most important requirements for any criminal justice career. It is extremely important to know what is right and wrong and to be honest no matter what the consequences if you are planning on entering the justice field, especially a police officer. Police officers must commit to the highest moral and ethical standards, they can't be prejudice or favor someone without knowing every single detail, must show good personal conduct, have high integrity on and off duty, and plenty more. One major reason to have a high standard of integrity and honesty at all times is because if you are a person who has ever been in trouble for something that showed you had been dishonest (such as theft, cheating, lying, and more) and you apply for a job in the justice field, they will most likely find it no matter how off your record it supposedly is and you will not be hired. In their minds they are most likely thinking that if you could be dishonest once then you can be dishonest again and they don't want someone likely that employed with them. • 6. Franklin And Honesty Benjamin Franklin said, "Honesty is the best policy." I do not agree with him, I think that honesty is not the best. Honesty has its flaws, but to me, lying is (most of the time) the best policy. For example, when a friend about hair color and the color you want your friends hair to be, would not suit them. In general, lying is best because, someone could be emotional, the truth could include useless details, and could save your reputation. Honesty is good but, it can hurt other people's feelings and emotions. Imagine if your friend wanted advice on clothing, and you thought that what you wanted them to wear didn't look good on them. • 7. Honesty Is The Best Policy Essay Honesty is the Best Policy Yuki Toda The Honest Woodcutter, is one of Aesop's Fables. It tells a story where a woodcutter drops his axe into a river by accident. Because this is his only means of livelihood, he sits and weeps. A Goddess takes pity on this man, and dives into the river returning with a golden axe. She asks amicably, "is this what you have lost?" The man answers it is not, and gives the Goddess the same answer when she returns with a silver axe. He only claims the axe when she returns what is really his, neither gold nor silver. Impressed by his honesty, the Goddess allows the man to keep all three axes. The moral of this story is of course, honesty is the best policy. What determines our decisions of what is right or what is wrong? How do our brains decide to be honest or dishonest? Answering these questions can help us gain more insight into human communication. The gold axe in the Honest Woodcutter is what Greene, a psychologist at Harvard University, describes as the "opportunities of dishonest gain" in his research. There are two hypotheses in scientific literature that explain human decisions for lying. The Will hypothesis predicts our brains play an active role in being honest and must resist temptations to lie. The woodcutter may have had the urge to lie to the goddess, but actively resisted the temptation. On the other hand, the Grace hypothesis predicts our honesty comes naturally as long as there is no temptation, making honesty a passive process. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. The Role Of Honesty In The Great Gatsby Renowned inventor and Founding Father Benjamin Franklin once said that "Honesty is the best policy." Being honest is a very noble quality and everyone should strive to be truthful. However, this task is much easier said than done. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the narrator "Nick Carraway" is intended to demonstrate that no matter how hard someone tries, personal opinions always influence one's decisions and impressions of other people. Nick's unreliability as a narrator, the way his decisions affect the other characters, and the way Fitzgerald chose to present Nick as a character are all great points of evidence that support this theory. Nick thinks of himself as being a very non–judgemental person as he says at...show more content... Scott Fitzgerald chose to tell the story of The Great Gatsby in a somewhat unconventional way by using a narrator that is a main character himself. Fitzgerald presents Nick in a specific way to serve a particular purpose. Fitzgerald uses Nick to demonstrate that people naturally judge others and that it is impossible for someone to remain completely unbiased when making these judgments. Usually, the sole purpose of the narrator is to give a medium in which to tell the story, but Nick tells the story and is involved in it at the same time. He has his own thoughts and feels different emotions throughout the novel and some of these emotions and feelings creep into his recollection of what happened. Because of this, the reader feels a stronger connection to him but at the same time, can be easily persuaded to have the same opinions as him about other characters. This also may be why Nick changed the most throughout the novel. He started out as a young man who is looking to make his fortune in the bond business out east but ends up moving back west because he is fed up with the corruption and greed that comes with the wealthy lifestyle of the east coast. At the close of the novel Nick says this about the eastern lifestyle, "They were careless people, Tom and DaisyвЋјthey smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made." • 9. The Importance Of Honesty Honesty Would you call yourself honest if you never have the chance to be dishonest? Honesty is the foundation upon which a person builds any relationship with their loved ones such as family or friends. Being honest to loved ones, will make them feel that they are trustworthy and close enough for to reveal their feelings. Honesty plays an important role in raising children to be good citizens. When I was six years old, one spring afternoon I was waiting for the bell to ring to go home from school. The Principal, Mrs. Garcia came to my classroom to give us a last minute announcement. I do not remember what she was talking about, because my mind was set on packing up and...show more content... I was hoping my mom wanted to keep it, after all I was the owner. I found it, not my mother. Then she said, "Tomorrow we will go to school and give it back to whoever this money belongs to." Tomorrow came and there we were, in the Principal's office. I remember the reaction of the Principal. She was crying like a river, kissing my mother, and thanking her over and over for her honesty and the great example she was to me. At that the moment I understood why she wanted to give the money back. It belonged to the Principal who put the folder on my desk, while she was giving the last minute announcement the day before. I had been in a hurry and I shoved the folder in my back pack by accident. My mother never told me that what we did was called honesty. We never talked about the incident. I learned by her example what the right choice was, and it changed my life forever. Shakespeare once said, "Honesty is the best policy. If I lose my honor, I lose myself." From his quote, it is clear that Shakespeare thinks honor is more important than anything else in life. Honesty is a virtue that is uniquely valued by human beings as well by our Heavenly Father. Being honest often requires courage and sacrifice, especially when others try to persuade us to justify dishonest behavior. Being honest ha Pros and Cons and some of them are the following: Pros: People respect you and trust you. They know you are a person with integrity. In the context of human communication, people are generally said to be honest when they tell the truth to the best of their knowledge and do not hide what they know or think. Apart from being truthful, honesty is also generally thought to involve abstaining from unfair behavior, such as stealing or cheating on a test. It is the quality to tell the truth when it is not easy to tell. I'd like to tell you a little story to illustrate my point. Definition Essay: The Value Of Honesty Honesty "is the refusal to fake reality–i.e., to pretend that facts are other than they are."1 It can be described as the flip side of rationality: Whereas rationality is the commitment to think, judge, and act with respect to the relevant facts, honesty is the commitment not to do otherwise." Honesty has many similar meanings; such as uprightness, morality, trustworthiness, goodness, scrupulousness, decency, rectitude, righteousness, fairness, reliability and honor. These synonyms are all equal to truth. The meaning of honesty in this essay is applied about truth. This fits the definition about truthfulness in everything. There is also another different meaning of honesty, such as plants with flat papery seed pods: a hardy European plant with purplish or white flowers and flat silvery seed pods that are often used for indoor decoration. Its' Latin name is Lunaria annua. It also called silver dollar, money plant, and satin flower. This meaning is totally different than average people know about the honesty. • 13. Honesty In The Canterbury Tales Honesty is the best policy; a phrase that's been around nearly as long as lies themselves. The book; The Canterbury Tales by Geofferey Chaucer displays how the dishonesty of society is timeless. This is first displayed in "The General Prologue" through the descriptions of the pilgrims. This is also shown in "The Miller's Tale" and "The Reeve's Tale". Chaucer also conveys that truth is preferable to lies by explaining what terrible punishments befell those who did lie. While those who lied did succeed and profit from their lies; eventually the lies caught up to them and they end up paying a price greater than what they earned. "The General Prologue" briefly describes each of the pilgrims and The Host. "The General Prologue" also includes brief commentary from the narrator; Chaucer. This commentary acts as characterization for all the pilgrims. But the commentary, besides establishing each character, exhibits Chaucer's opinion on each of the characters, and their flaws. Many of the pilgrims are describes as dishonest or corrupt. A prime example of this is the Prioress who is describes as "Pleasant and friendly in her ways, and straining To counterfeit a courtly kind of grace, A stately bearing fitting to her place, And to seem dignified in all her dealings"(pp 6, 7). These two lines are the only lines that betray the Prioress, revealing that her dignified persona is merely a faГ§ade. A liar besides the Prioress is the Pardoner who had, "in a glass, a rubble of pigs' bones. And Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Definition Of Honesty In The Odyssey Cole Kilboy English 9 Volpi 29 Mar. 2017 The Price of Honesty Honesty is truly the best policy. Merriam–Webster defines honesty as being, "free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere." Some people view honesty as the foremost virtue in a trustworthy person. However, this world is tainted with many who deceive others to be revered, although when you turn around they will be divergent from your views typically lying to benefit themselves at the expense of your state. A common term for these people is a "fake" person or a "snake". It is remarkably difficult to find a truly honest man, and when found, many are taken advantage of. This is often because some view them as a doormat who they use simply to get rumors, gossip, or information they need....show more content... Become a role model, not an untrustworthy statistic. • 15. Essay On Honesty Honesty is the best policy. We have always been taught this and also that to lie is a bad thing to do. There is a certain beauty in living life with honesty. While the benefits of and motivations for choosing honesty in life are many – including that truthfulness and honesty are integral to one's sense of moral integrity – living a life of honesty ultimately means having little to regret. Living with honesty is less about persistently resorting to truth over deception, and is more about living your life in a way that is "honest" to who you are on the inside – your strengths, your gifts, and your passions, as well as your beliefs and morals. Being true to ourselves should undoubtedly help lead us to what most of us strive for in life –some form...show more content... In many situations it is a good idea to keep quiet or, better still, be diplomatic and tactfully handle sensitive issues. The line dividing honesty and diplomacy is a thin one. We have to be careful in deciding when to be honest and when to be at our diplomatic best. We also have to decide whether we should be absolutely candid, or use the truth as a matter of convenience. Wars are won by words not weapons. For centuries people have tried to solve their problems by negotiation. To escape conflicts and wars they have used words to persuade their opponents. That is where diplomacy begins. Diplomacy is an intellectual activity and decision making derived from ongoing analysis of current situations. Diplomacy includes the combination of ways and abilities which any state can use for its worthy existence in the world and for establishing cooperation with other members of international community. In modern day and age, one has to practice diplomacy as it is essential to get one's way in a world that is highly competitive. What you say matters a lot. One has to be careful while conveying issues as they would have an impact on one's surroundings. • 16. Honesty Is The Best Policy Benjamin Franklin, of one–hundred–dollar bill fame, once said that "honesty is the best policy" (Franklin). This seems like a good thing, however if you use the common definition of honesty, of never telling a lie, then I would disagree with dear Ben, honesty is not the best policy. If I had to create my own definition of honesty to replace the common definition, I would say that to be honest, would be to stay true. True to others, true to the world, and true to yourself. To get to how I came up with this definition we have to go back to the common definition of honesty, which is not to tell lies. Back when I was a much younger version of myself, in about 2nd grade or so, I remember telling outrageous lies, lies that are completely impossible for an adult to achieve, much less a meager 2nd grader. I remember a time when one of the other kids said that they have three dogs, and then someone else said that they had four dogs, which was more than I had ever had, so I said that I had five dogs, because having more dogs makes me cool, right? Well someone else said that they had more animals, and someone else said they had even more animals, and then someone said that they have some exotic animals, and it ended up with a table of 2nd graders who owned more animals than were in the entire state of North Carolina and somehow kept them contained in suburban homes hidden away from the ASPCA. I believe I ended up having an entire zoo stored somewhere in my closet, just behind my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Honesty In The Military When leading a team there must be a mutual understanding and being honest with all involved. Being honest will inspire others to be truthful, have sincerity and be forthrightness when volunteering information that the other person may need to know. (Josephson, 2002, p. 8) This goes for both leaders and non–leaders being honest will always the best policy. Equally important, individuals need to stand up for what they believe in as this will take courage and honesty. For example, both Abraham Lincoln and Rosa parks exemplified courage and stood up for what they believed in. When the civil war approached Washington, D.C., the President risked being shot in order to show support for his troops. The Presidents speeches angered individuals on...show more content... On the other hand, the aunt could have been upset because she was being questioned, but if she has good intentions for her mother then there should be no problem to releasing that information rather than go through a civil process in court. In addition, being sincere with words and actions will eliminate untrue or misleading information. Leaders must work hard and be accurate to prevent misunderstandings. It is important to remember "not to play to the audience," and say different things to different groups of people (Bushey, p. 5) as this will lead to a significant loss of trust and possible arguments will be established. Always be honest, sincere and candid and never take advantage of another person's trust, while at the same time there must be fairness. There may be times when dishonesty may be justified, but this should only happen for safety reasons such as lying to criminals or terrorists in order to save lives. When being dishonest it should only be for those reasons just stated and not for winning a game or hitting a sales target to avoid confrontation. (Josephson, 2002, p. • 19. The Is The Best Policy Essay In certain situations, women lie because it is socially necessary. "Honesty is the best policy" is an ideology spoken by many, but practiced by few. The most common reason for this is obvious, we want to protect the feelings of others. We have been taught at a very young age that lying is unacceptable, but by the age of five we are explicitly encouraged by our parents to lie when we are told to tell grandma how much we absolutely love the itchy, ugly sweater we got for Christmas. Lying is necessary to maintain positive relationships. Society condones lying when our intentions are to preserve the feelings of others. Woman are required to lie for social purposes. We don't want to hear the truth all the time. The truth hurts. We don't want the painful burden of always telling the truth. It's hurtful for those around us and we will ,without a doubt lose all friendships. If she wants to maintain a good relationship with her friends, she cannot be brutally honest all the time. Especially, when handling romantic relationships. If her friend's boyfriend breaks up with her, she is forced to lie: Friend 1: WTH! Ben just broke up with me! There better not be another girl! I hate him so much! Friend 2: No way! What happened? You two were perfect together. He doesn't know what he's missing. He's stupid for letting you go. Friend 1: I know! Ugh..I don't even want to think about him right now. Let's go to a party tonight. The woman lies by omitting the truth. She may have some advice Get more content on HelpWriting.net
