- Setting Personal GoalsThe first step in reaching your goal is to identify it. Writing the goal down will help you to realize what it will take to reach it.Listing your obstacles is the second step in goal setting. Several young people share the obstacles they have faced while pursuing their goals.The more ambitious your goal is, the more help you will need. The third step in goal setting is to identify individuals or groups you will need to work with.The fourth step in goal setting is to identify the skills you will need. To reach your goal, you will need to assess the skills you currently have, and find ways to obtain the skills you will need.The most important part of goal setting is to make a thorough plan of action including a timeline. Several young people share their plans for reaching their goals.
