2. Going to the library
School library is a place for students to learn and improve
their knowledge, but it´s also a social gathering for
students to discuss their ideas and questions.
School
libraries
provides:
-‐
Wide
variety
of
information
-‐
Consultants
and
literature
supporting
existing
curriculum.
-‐
Technology
resources
-‐
Inspiration.
School library + student achievement = better!

5. Time killers
on the couches.
This
group
is
students
who
are
in
between
classes
or
waiting
for
friends.
Students
are
not
yet
mentally
prepared
for
studying,
and
instead
browsing
through
books
or
magazines
rather
than
reading
them.
They
are
also
often
on
their
computer
or
phone,
checking
Facebook,
Instagram
and
blogs
on
the
internet.
Sometimes
students
are
even
using
the
couch
for
a
little
nap
time.
Other
people
entering
the
library
and
others
around
them
in
the
study
area
easily
distract
students
in
this
group.
!
Students
kill
time
here
and
no
other
place
because:
!
“I
like
it
this
place
and
these
couches
are
comfortable.”
!
“I
don´t
have
to
buy
anything
to
sit
here”
!
!
!
!
7. Doers
on library computers.
!
!
This
group
is
students
who
are
determined
and
focused
on
a
computer
task,
either
it´s
printing
stuff,
scanning
work,
final
review
or
adjustments
of
their
work
before
printing.
Students
are
usually
quick
users
on
the
computers;
load
up
work,
print,
and
leave.
Students
in
this
group
spend
less
time
in
the
library
than
others
unless
they
are
sitting
somewhere
else
in
the
library
before
printing.
!
!
“I
only
come
here
to
print
when
I
need
to”
10. Isolated loners
in quiet study area.
This
group
is
usually
students
in
their
midterms
or
finals
period,
or
sometimes
close
to
a
due
date
on
a
project
or
homework.
They
can
be
students
who
are
trying
to
catch
up
with
their
classes,
too.
Students
are
working
intensely
and
are
lost
in
their
world
of
study,
and
won´t
let
anything
outside
the
booth
distract
them.
They
are
really
focused
and
their
work
has
their
full
concentration.
Students
in
this
group
are
not
here
to
socialise
or
kill
time,
their
work
has
100%
of
their
attention.
!
Students
choose
to
study
in
the
library
rather
than
home
because:
!
!
“I
can
find
books
here
and
even
ask
an
ESL
teacher
and
friends
for
help”
!
“
I
feel
bad
when
I´m
not
studying
here
and
everyone
around
me
is”
!
11. Loners
in the study area.
This
kind
of
student
sits
alone
in
the
study
area.
These
students
are
productive
and
seem
to
get
more
work
done
than
students
sitting
in
groups.
Students
usually
have
a
clean
table
with
only
their
computer,
1-‐2
books
and
drinks.
Students
are
also
focused
in
their
study
and
not
affected
by
other
students
who
are
working
in
the
same
study
area.
!
Most
students
in
this
group
are
listening
to
music.
They
are
more
productive
and
focused
than
as
the
ones
who
are
not
listening
to
music,
because
they
are
not
as
easily
distracted.
!
They
choose
to
study
in
the
library
because:
!
“There´s
less
distraction
here
so
I
feel
more
productive”
!
“There´s
more
pressure
making
you
have
to
study
in
the
library”
!
“I
feel
smarter
doing
things
in
the
library”
12. Dynamic duo (group of 2)
in the study area.
Students
in
this
group
work
and
play
in
equal
parts.
They
chat
and
work
at
the
same
time
and
the
conversations
are
usually
about
everything
from
school
to
their
private
life.
These
students
study
together
because
they
like
working
in
group,
discussing
ideas
about
their
work
with
each
other,
and
hanging
out
while
getting
homework
done.
Most
girls
in
the
study
area
enjoy
working
together
in
groups
more
than
guys.
When
one
student
leaves
the
group
for
a
lunch
break
or
a
bathroom
break,
that
one
left
behind
suddenly
becomes
more
productive.
Students
in
this
group
seem
less
stressed
when
they
are
working
together.
!
Students
study
in
groups
because:
!
“My
partner
is
my
second
opinion
in
all
my
work”
!
“We
get
more
things
done
together
than
alone”
13. Entourage (group of 3 or more)
in the study area.
At
first
glance
students
in
this
group
seem
to
be
more
productive
by.
They
usually
chat
and
discuss
more
than
they
work.
These
students
are
friends
and
often
talk
about
everything
and
show
each
other
pictures
on
their
computer.
They
are
not
distracted
by
others
in
the
library
and
are
only
focused
on
what´s
happening
around
the
group
table.
They
are
more
easily
distracted
by
each
other
and
start
procrastinating
more
often
than
other
groups
in
the
library.
Since
there
are
more
students
in
this
group,
they
tend
to
talk
louder
and
laugh
more.
And
this
group
has
the
most
books,
food
and
drinks
on
the
table
in
the
whole
library.
!
These
students
choose
to
study
together
because:
!
“Studying
it´s
more
fun
with
more
friends”
!
“It´s
easier
to
stop
procrastinating
because
not
everyone
in
the
group
is
procrastinating.”
!
“It´s
easier
to
help
each
other
in
a
study
group.”
