Defining Myself Essay
Sometimes a person may feel that they have no purpose in life. Finding out who you are just
takes the time of sitting down and thinking of the importance in your life. Who am I? I am
Mercedes Kimberly Kingston, and I am a person with different personalities, characteristics, and
identities. The many ways, in which I identify myself, in fact, are the ways that define who I am.
My Identity is something only I can fully define. I have a little brother, which makes me a sister; I
have two loving parents, which makes me a daughter; I am in college studying medicine, which
makes me a student; and I have wonderful friends in desperate need of support, which makes me a
wonderful best friend. Before anything, I am a big sister to...show more content...
It is seen as an essential part of learning and using what you learn in class. But when you get loads of
class work and have very little time to finish it, then it becomes an unnecessary burden. Yet,
sometimes, for me, it is the fact that I procrastinate that prevents me from completing a task. For
college student, like myself who is working to pay for college, large amounts of class work
usually brings lots of stress and fear of not being able to get good grades in many of my classes.
Yet, I have support from my family, friends, and some peers who encourage me to put up a good
fight in reaching my goal. I am a student that has gone through so much to get here, where I am.
There were times that I had strong feelings that I would never be in college, just because of the
negative energy I forced upon myself. Since pre–K, I have had this problem that if I can't do
something I just give up, and stop trying. I still have this problem, but I have learned to get a control
on it. The biggest problem was graduating from high school. I never thought that I would ever
graduate. But I knew, as a student, I should at least try and show my teachers that I am putting effort.
And now, I'm in college, studying pre–med, and hoping to become either a pediatrician, or a NFL
Doctor. Growing up as a daughter to a single mom, was, I think, the best experience ever. I was, and
am still, very spoiled. I always had everything that I ever wanted. And

Definition Of Monster Essay
Monsters are part of our life. They may be in a horror movie, a scary story you're reading, or they
could even be friendly monsters in a children's movie like Monsters Inc. Some people can even
consider other people as monsters. Everyone sees monsters differently so what is really the meaning
of monsters? The definition of the word monster is an imaginary creature that is typically large,
ugly, and frightening. Is that really the overall meanings of monster though? If you take a look at
the movie Monsters Inc some of the monsters are really nice, small, and even cute. A monster may
or may not be a monster to you. For example in the show Scream everyone thought this kid was a
monster. His name was Brandon James and he had a deformity. Everyone was scared of him
except one girl and who sees him as a monster. Not every monster is a monster to you. It all
depends on what you classify as a monster. My monster is drugs. It never goes away and it harms
many people. It has no excuse other than that it doesn't have a mind or anything. The person who
decides to take or try drugs did it themself. Therefore, the person is kind of like a monster in my
mind. Monsters are things that have been hurt and pushed over the edge that they have transformed
into a killer, they have turned ugly, large, and they turn frightening. They turn due to hatred and bad
feelings, bad experiences, and...show more content...
If you can say you hate something and really mean it then something must have happened to you
for you to say you hate that thing. The word hate means an "intense hostility and aversion usually
deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury." I can only really say I hate one person, but I won't
get into that. In today's society we thrive off of others hating others. We enjoy conflict which is
probably why horror movies are so popular. Horror movies normally start with some kind of fight or
someone hating another. It then goes on to a bunch of murders and

Definition Essay: What Is A Mindset?
Motivation is based on the will to continue and achieve some means to an end. Whether it would
be to wake up in the morning or to finish a doctorate in medical biology, motivation does exist. It
exists for all of us and here is the response I can give for 'what are my motivations.'
But before addressing the idea of motivation, the idea of mindset must be established. a person
with a fixed mindset or unmotivated personality will find themselves less motivated and unable
to grow as a result. They will seek the baseline evaluations and only wish to go as far as they will
be praised for. Neither side looks to the future or challenges the impossible and in the end they
end up with almost nothing in comparison to another person with a better adapted personality
and mindset. For example, my mindset is growth but with ripples of fixed usually resting in areas
of gaming or art. This is because in those two areas my mindset for improvement is unneeded
because my muscle memory corrects itself over time and, for art, I seek praise only because I
personally feel that my art is perfect in my own world. However, this is only my mindset outside of
college and varies greatly from my working mindset.

College is certainly a trial of will for most individuals which is why there is some reason why
every student is here. For me personally it is both the idea of gaining knowledge and delivering a
better future for my loved ones currently and in the future. To seek knowledge for myself is more
of a grasp at power and control. For example, a person who understands engineering has more
power in the field of electricity than someone who barely knows the difference between the
different types of wire. This power that I seek will allow me to both protect those from the law as
well as snap the rat trap that criminals narrowly avoid each and every day. So this with the desire for
a better life for those close to me motivates my college

Defining Play Essay
Introduction
Defining play can be very difficult. The term play can be used to illustrate a wide range of
behaviors and activities, and can be perceived as both essential and insignificant to the child at the
same time. Santrock (2012, p.437) suggests a definition of play as "a pleasurable activity that is
engaged in for its own sake." However, this is argued by Kernan (2007, p.5) who states that none of
the potential definitions are broad enough to encompass all of the meanings associated with play.
Despite the lack of such universal definition, Rennie (2003, p.22) claims, that "we can recognize
play across barriers of language, of culture, even of species", which conveys its importance in the
life and development of children, as it is...show more content...

actions and emotions and adjust them to the recognized social norm and in addition to that, play
helps children to prepare themselves to become an active member of a culture and their own family
by interacting with the people closest to them, such as parents and other family members (Vygotsky,
as cited in Brennan, 2012, p.162.) As a result of this, their social and emotional development is
advanced from an early stage.
Santrock (2012) also outlines the benefit of play for the child's physical development, as it "permits
the child to work off excess physical energy and to release pent–up tensions" (Santrock, 2012,
p.438), resulting in improved physical and mental health. Garvey (1991, p.27) states that play
involving physical activity occurs more frequently in healthy children, possibly confirming that it is
a component of healthy development. In addition to this, encouraging physical activity through play
could influence the children to maintain a healthy lifestyle later in life, and has an array of physical
and mental health benefits which prevent disease associated with lack of activity (Chaloux and
Media, 2013.)

DEFINITION ESSAY
Definition Essay
Definition: The aim in this essay is to define, explain, and exemplify something. Generally, in
definition essays, we try to make the terms that we use understandable for the reader. Our
understanding of a term may be different from the general concept, or we may be focusing on a
specific aspect. Giving an exact definition would enable the reader to follow the ideas and arguments
in your essay. Organization: Definition of a term is generally given in the introduction. The
development of the essay is dedicated to the explanation of the term. There are many ways to
explain a term. It is also possible to employ more than one of these methods of development. Below

Love is not another seasoning to bottle and stick on the dust–lined shelves of the spice rack. Love is
not to be confused with adhesive tape. Instead, love is a great counterpart to late, evening thunder

between bare toes. Love is a capitalistic sell–all for novels, Top–40 pop songs, summer movies, and
greeting cards.

Defining Family Essay
Determining family structure and dynamics as well as defining the family is a complex process.
Personally, I come from a very traditional family. Much like the assumptions made by the students in
the article Defining Family: Young Adults' Perceptions of the Parent
–Child Bond by Mellisa
Holtzman (2008). This is what comes to mind when most people define family; a nuclear family, with
married parents, and biological children. However, a family is a complex system and can take on
many different forms. Today, in a world of the "postmodern family" the traditional lines of family
structure are blurred. Children may come from diverse types of homes, or a couple, married or not
may choose to have no children and consider...show more content...
Living with extended family members has also been publicized lately in relation to the poor
economy. Young adults who typically lived on their own after college are moving back in with
their parents, older adults on fixed incomes that do not go as far as they once did are living with
their children. This is a definite shift in the traditional family. Having graduated and moved out on
my own prior to the economic decline I have learned to live with less, but having known that was
coming I would have considered living at home longer. My siblings have or are planning on moving
back in with our parents after college graduation to get ahead money–wise. This is a stressor on not
only the individuals as a lack of feelings of freedom, but also an adaptation by the family as a
whole that was unplanned years ago. It is my belief that recognizing any family structure or
definition is important, as the traditional version may be skewed in so many ways, without
knowing or recognizing the "family" that people we run across may come from. We can also learn
from other family definitions to build upon our own themes, rules, and beliefs. Adding stigma and
prejudice toward families different from our own not only alienate the members, but can add
unnecessary stress upon that family system. Stress in any family system can be seen as either an
adaptation potential or a negative force. Many effects on the

Extended Definition Research Paper
How can writers compose successful extended definition essays? Definition essays needs to explain
a word's exact meaning versus the meaning used within a culture. Authors must use a dictionary
definition, comparison and contrast, and examples within a definition essay. Narcissist – Give It a

comparison and contrast, and concrete examples.
A definition essay needs a clear definition as a basis. Chapter twelve of the Brief Bedford Reader

doubt." In Daum's essay, she explains narcissism, but doesn't use a definition from the OED. If she

Feminism Definition Essay
What is feminism? According to Merriam–Webster Dictionary the standard definition defines
feminism as "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes." I believe the
word feminism means a woman who is capable of doing the exact things a man can do. Both men
and women are equal regardless the gender. There are many misconceptions when it comes to the
word feminism such as, women having hatred towards men, women thinking they're above men, or
only women can be feminist, and the gender stereotype. On the other hand, feminism is gender
equality, acknowledging that any kind of violence is unacceptable regardless the gender, and
realizing that women and men are not the same and recognizing that gender and sex are...show more

Individuals need to learn and accept that women and men are capable of doing the same things. It
should be acknowledged that women can do just as much as men can do. Society needs to put
their "beliefs" aside and not view all women as a weak. People should be more open about this
topic, instead of assuming. Women are often put down because of their gender. Although, women are
able to achieve a role a man can accomplish.
A third misconception society expects is, only women can be feminist. As the world changes day by
day many people are becoming feminist. Not only females but, men too. Whenever someone labels
themselves as a feminist it doesn't affect the movement, whether they're a female or male. Instead, it
spreads the word of what feminism really means. For example, my father is a feminist and has no
shame of letting the whole world know. My father believes women should have the freedom to
make their own choices and women should be able to live their lives how they want to with their
educations, careers, bodies, etc. He believes women deserve to have equal pay for the equal
amount of work done. My father is always thinking of ways to spread the positivity of feminism.
Overall, he supports feminism and believes in equality along with freedom.
I strongly believe people should be informed on what the word feminism means. People who haven't
been educated about the word feminism, are most likely to believe the typical stereotypes. Knowing

Essay on What is the Definition of a Hero?
What is the Definition of a Hero?
When one thinks of heroes, names such as Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and Mother Theresa often
come to mind. These people had done a lot of favors, courage, helps, and more of things for the
people who needed them. The true definition of hero is a man of distinguished valor. Bravery,
courage, intrepidity, boldness, daring, and prowess in war are a hero's characteristics. However a
hero is understood to be different to everyone. Upon closer examination, many different qualities
than these become apparent. The definition of heroism changes with the context and time. Heroes
of the past are not necessarily heroes of present time and vise versa. A person can be a hero for

Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to
become what everybody doubted they could. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime
surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence.
Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can
be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of
becoming like them someday.
Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives can be a hero. Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities.
Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. Even
a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are
heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don't
have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else's life.
There is no discretion to become a hero. The perfect hero is one who will defy the odds. One who
will do the morally correct thing no matter how hard it is. A true hero won't let you down. A hero
will give you opportunity to worship him without regret. The hero presents himself when given the
chance, yet

What Is Ambition Essay
"A dream without ambition is like a car without gas...you're not going anywhere," (Hampton).
Ambition is something many people have however many people don't know what the true meaning
of ambition is. The dictionary definition of ambition is, "a strong desire to do or to achieve
something, typically requiring determination and hard work" (Dictionary.com). Ambition has made
great leaders since the dawn of time, like Cleopatra, and any great leader adopts, or already
possesses, six habits that are found in the minds and hearts of two of the greatest leaders of the 20th
century, Nelson Mandela and Gandhi, but ambition can be seen as a two–faced word causing it to
have a negative light as well. Humans adapted to change for centuries. Humans adapted to weather,
to wars, and to other humans. Every creature, not just humans, have had to develop over time to new
habits and traits to help them survive. Ambition is one trait that has been around for centuries buried

ambition. Ambition gave her the strength and determination to fight for her kingdom, even when
she lost it. Cleopatra lost her kingdom at least twice, almost three times, however, she battled

Definition Of Health
My definition of health is when one feels an overall sensation of healthiness across all 7 aspects of
health. A person who focuses independently on each aspect of health, views them as separate
entities, and in doing so tries to improve them each individually without thoughts of the other
aspects, will rarely ever reach a state of good health. One achieves health through the recognition that
all the aspects of health are interconnected and changes in one aspect directly or indirectly influence
others and application of this knowledge to their everyday life. At this time in my life, not all 7
dimensions of health are equal to me. As a stressed out first year science student I am personally

It is fairly difficult to define health as there are no agreements between scholars. This is why many
sociologists focus their research on the different issues and problems of ill health.
Positive definition of health: positive health looks at the physical, emotional, intellectual aspects of a
person's wellbeing. This is in the way that they do not have any diseases or ailments.
An example of the positive definition of health in a health and social care is a nurse in who is

An example of holistic health could be that a psychologist's client may have bipolar disorder and
the psychologist would still focus on all of the other aspects of their client's life and not just on the
symptoms the client is experiencing of bipolar disorder.
Holistic health looks as everything as a whole and never different aspects of health individually.
World Health Organisation definition of health: the World Health Organisation defines health as "not
merely an absence of disease, but a state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social
well–being." (2013 K Pritchett Class Notes)
An example of health defined by the World Health Organisation in a health and social care setting
could be that in order for a patient of a doctors surgery to be healthy they would have to have a
complete state of physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being. This means that if a patient was
in a wheel chair they could never be seen as healthy as they do not have a complete state of physical
well–being.
The World Health Organisation thinks that people must have all complete aspects to be completely
healthy.
The Clinical Iceberg

Essay on What is Happiness?
What is happiness? People have agonized over this question for centuries. Let me start this essay by
answering a somewhat easier question: what isn't happiness? Happiness is NOT feeling good all the
time. Happiness is a combination of human emotions and states of mind. Exploring this state of
being has consumed the philosophical minds of the ages and will continue to do so for ages to come.
In an unofficial poll of students at State University, I found that of the fifty–eight students and one
professor, males and females of several ethnic backgrounds and age groups, that I asked the question
"What is happiness to you?", all of them had very different physical, intellectual, or emotional

But these supplementary explanations do not affect the theory of life on which this theory of
morality is grounded namely, that pleasure, and freedom from pain, are the only things desirable as
ends; and that all desirable things (which are as numerous in the utilitarian as in any other scheme)
are desirable either for the pleasure inherent in themselves, or as means to the promotion of pleasure
and the prevention of pain. (Pojman 917)
Mill seems to think that happiness comes from the desire to be completely pain–free.
He says that happiness comes from selfishly fulfilled desires. The desire to attain only pleasure is
ludicrous; for a person to achieve a completely pain–free existence is impossible. To gain complete
happiness would leave them with no motivation to achieve anything else. Human nature is such that
if a person achieved pure happiness, that person would then become dissatisfied with that happiness,
causing them to, once again, be unhappy. A person will always experience something contrary to
pleasure, leaving them with some type of pain.
In my opinion, people seem to be happy for many different reasons at different times in their lives. I

Definition Essay: What Is A Hero?
"What is a hero?" The word hero can mean whatever a person wants it to mean. Many people define
a role model or person they think is a hero out of their occupations. However, a person does not
become a hero because of their occupation or what they do that we envy. A hero is a person who
takes a bold step or achievement that requires courage, bravery and a kind heart to do it, and the act
is normally done for others. Heroes are not heroes out of their occupations like a doctor. For
example, a doctor's work is to save lives, so when they do this, it is what we expect of them. If a
doctor saves a drowning child from a swimming pool, he becomes a hero. The doctor demonstrates
an act of bravery and courage for the child. So a hero can be any person with or without an
occupation, who performs a bold act for others. A hero just has to be someone to sacrifice
something for others. Heroes can come from anywhere. Heroes do not have to do action acts such
as saving a person. Heroes can even be from acts of kindness. Some...show more content...

they accomplish their mission. The difference between those who become heroes and those who do

Defining Identity Essays
There are millions of words across the globe that are used to describe people and uncover their
identity, but what is identity? How can you begin to describe something that varies so greatly from
one human being to another? Can you create a universal meaning for a word describing human
concepts that people often fail to define for themselves? Of course there isn't one definition to define
such a word. It is an intricate aspect of human nature, and it has a definition just as complex.

Everyone has heard that it is who you are on the inside that counts. This part of your identity is what
makes a person truly unique. It is true that someone can have the same name, be the same age, or
have the same job as you. So your identities would seem very similar. It is possible for two people
from the same place that share such numerous interests to believe that they are one and the same.
That is until you take a closer look and examine the person?s thought and feelings. No two people
are exactly alike. Our identities spawn individuality. Therefore, your identity also shows what kind
of person you are beneath the skin. It is a picture of how your view your self and your purpose in the
world.
Since identity is so often built from fads, it is a reflection of culture. People want to be like what
they see on television and hear on the radio. So people mold themselves to be like the idols they
are so infatuated with. It?s always about what?s popular, and by looking at a large group you can
tell what that is at any given time, because people like to connect their identities with one another.
It creates a sense of belonging and acceptance that humans need in order to feel like they fit into
society. People have to be able to bond with one another. Having a vastly different identity makes
you an outcast, and no one wants to know how it feels to be the loner. So people alter themselves to
ensure that they will

Forgiveness by the World English Dictionary is the "act of forgiving; state of being forgiven,

quality that separates us from other species and it is what makes us human. In order to truly and

When I was a child, every time I saw my mother crying and hurting from all the abuse induced by
her husband, the person who was supposed to protect her, I ask God, why? I never received an

Family is a group of people who are related by blood, marriage, or adoption. This is the definition

commitment over time. This excludes friends, significant others, and pets. Friends may come in and

open to walk away once the relationship is not going as they would like since there is not the

As I mentioned, using visuals is very helpful for me. But more than that, I think that practicing
what I am learning is the best way for me to understand something. For example, if I am learning
about how to knead bread, it is helpful for me to watch a demonstration first, but then I need to
physically knead the bread in order to put the entire concept together. Watching alone only gets me
part way there. I would really like to use a more kinesthetic, hands on approach in my own
classroom someday. I like to be up and active and having others do things along with me, and I
think most people learn well doing hands on activities. I would incorporate other helpful methods
along with using movement, though. I know for myself that I need that visual guidance first,
whether that is watching someone or even reading instruction, but if I just listen to someone explain
the process, I most likely will miss a lot of key pieces of information. So, my goal would be to use
both visual and auditory elements to introduce

Extended Definition Of Success
What does success?
What is success? To everyone this word has very different meanings. To some it means money or
having a good career, when to some it's much simpler than that. Dicontary.com defines success as
"the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one's
goals." To me success is as simple as happiness, having a mindset where everything revolves
around peace and doing the best I can. Having a steady paycheck to afford your lifestyle, I will
agree is successful but I think of that more, as good fortune than anything. Though you may be well
off and have everything you've ever wanted, that doesn't mean happiness or satisfaction. A paycheck
is one thing but doing what you love is a whole other

Essay on The Meaning of Life
The Meaning of Life
My few years on this planet have been a bit confusing. I have learned of many aspects of life from
which one can draw meaning, if indeed such meaning can be drawn. I have also learned that there
can be no singular meaning of life to stand for us all, or even any one of us. What I have learned
above all is that trying to put words to the meaning of life is a task of absolute absurdity. This is not
to be confused with the idea that life has no meaning, for life certainly has meaning. However, there
is no single meaning of life to be defined – life is different for us all. Therefore, rather than define
life for an entire planet, I shall try to explain what life means as I perceive it, and why it means so.

Life is a complicated twist of suffering, laughing, and learning all merging to tell a great story – or
great many stories. Based on this view, "it is not the end goal or outcome of life that gives life
meaning but rather the quality of the story, the quality with which one lives out and develops his or
her role."
At the time, this event seemed rather insignificant and did not merit remembrance. However, its
catastrophic effects on my attitude that evening may have helped to mold me into the person I have
become. I learned that suffering through such an event, as childish as it was, is quite necessary in
any life. Such pains are part of an interminable cycle and only generate balance in one's life (p. 62,
'Life as Suffering'). Despite my horrid time spent that evening, the laughter brought since the incident
is a worthy tradeoff. Laughter is an all too necessary function of life, just as suffering and the wide
range of other emotions. "Some thinkers would emphasize the importance of sophistication in
humor, but others would say that laughter itself is what is important." Whatever the case may be,
laughter is an important ingredient in life, and must not be taken for granted nor ignored.
Despite such emotional ties to life, I have also learned that life is not only about emotions. Those
emotions are generated from the chain reactions created endlessly in

What Is A Definition Essay

  • 1. Defining Myself Essay Sometimes a person may feel that they have no purpose in life. Finding out who you are just takes the time of sitting down and thinking of the importance in your life. Who am I? I am Mercedes Kimberly Kingston, and I am a person with different personalities, characteristics, and identities. The many ways, in which I identify myself, in fact, are the ways that define who I am. My Identity is something only I can fully define. I have a little brother, which makes me a sister; I have two loving parents, which makes me a daughter; I am in college studying medicine, which makes me a student; and I have wonderful friends in desperate need of support, which makes me a wonderful best friend. Before anything, I am a big sister to...show more content... It is seen as an essential part of learning and using what you learn in class. But when you get loads of class work and have very little time to finish it, then it becomes an unnecessary burden. Yet, sometimes, for me, it is the fact that I procrastinate that prevents me from completing a task. For college student, like myself who is working to pay for college, large amounts of class work usually brings lots of stress and fear of not being able to get good grades in many of my classes. Yet, I have support from my family, friends, and some peers who encourage me to put up a good fight in reaching my goal. I am a student that has gone through so much to get here, where I am. There were times that I had strong feelings that I would never be in college, just because of the negative energy I forced upon myself. Since pre–K, I have had this problem that if I can't do something I just give up, and stop trying. I still have this problem, but I have learned to get a control on it. The biggest problem was graduating from high school. I never thought that I would ever graduate. But I knew, as a student, I should at least try and show my teachers that I am putting effort. And now, I'm in college, studying pre–med, and hoping to become either a pediatrician, or a NFL Doctor. Growing up as a daughter to a single mom, was, I think, the best experience ever. I was, and am still, very spoiled. I always had everything that I ever wanted. And Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Definition Of Monster Essay Monsters are part of our life. They may be in a horror movie, a scary story you're reading, or they could even be friendly monsters in a children's movie like Monsters Inc. Some people can even consider other people as monsters. Everyone sees monsters differently so what is really the meaning of monsters? The definition of the word monster is an imaginary creature that is typically large, ugly, and frightening. Is that really the overall meanings of monster though? If you take a look at the movie Monsters Inc some of the monsters are really nice, small, and even cute. A monster may or may not be a monster to you. For example in the show Scream everyone thought this kid was a monster. His name was Brandon James and he had a deformity. Everyone was scared of him except one girl and who sees him as a monster. Not every monster is a monster to you. It all depends on what you classify as a monster. My monster is drugs. It never goes away and it harms many people. It has no excuse other than that it doesn't have a mind or anything. The person who decides to take or try drugs did it themself. Therefore, the person is kind of like a monster in my mind. Monsters are things that have been hurt and pushed over the edge that they have transformed into a killer, they have turned ugly, large, and they turn frightening. They turn due to hatred and bad feelings, bad experiences, and...show more content... If you can say you hate something and really mean it then something must have happened to you for you to say you hate that thing. The word hate means an "intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury." I can only really say I hate one person, but I won't get into that. In today's society we thrive off of others hating others. We enjoy conflict which is probably why horror movies are so popular. Horror movies normally start with some kind of fight or someone hating another. It then goes on to a bunch of murders and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Definition Essay: What Is A Mindset? Motivation is based on the will to continue and achieve some means to an end. Whether it would be to wake up in the morning or to finish a doctorate in medical biology, motivation does exist. It exists for all of us and here is the response I can give for 'what are my motivations.' But before addressing the idea of motivation, the idea of mindset must be established. a person with a fixed mindset or unmotivated personality will find themselves less motivated and unable to grow as a result. They will seek the baseline evaluations and only wish to go as far as they will be praised for. Neither side looks to the future or challenges the impossible and in the end they end up with almost nothing in comparison to another person with a better adapted personality and mindset. For example, my mindset is growth but with ripples of fixed usually resting in areas of gaming or art. This is because in those two areas my mindset for improvement is unneeded because my muscle memory corrects itself over time and, for art, I seek praise only because I personally feel that my art is perfect in my own world. However, this is only my mindset outside of college and varies greatly from my working mindset. My college...show more content... College is certainly a trial of will for most individuals which is why there is some reason why every student is here. For me personally it is both the idea of gaining knowledge and delivering a better future for my loved ones currently and in the future. To seek knowledge for myself is more of a grasp at power and control. For example, a person who understands engineering has more power in the field of electricity than someone who barely knows the difference between the different types of wire. This power that I seek will allow me to both protect those from the law as well as snap the rat trap that criminals narrowly avoid each and every day. So this with the desire for a better life for those close to me motivates my college Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Defining Play Essay Introduction Defining play can be very difficult. The term play can be used to illustrate a wide range of behaviors and activities, and can be perceived as both essential and insignificant to the child at the same time. Santrock (2012, p.437) suggests a definition of play as "a pleasurable activity that is engaged in for its own sake." However, this is argued by Kernan (2007, p.5) who states that none of the potential definitions are broad enough to encompass all of the meanings associated with play. Despite the lack of such universal definition, Rennie (2003, p.22) claims, that "we can recognize play across barriers of language, of culture, even of species", which conveys its importance in the life and development of children, as it is...show more content... 165 and Wood & Attfield's 1996, p.76.) It encourages children to develop the ability to control their actions and emotions and adjust them to the recognized social norm and in addition to that, play helps children to prepare themselves to become an active member of a culture and their own family by interacting with the people closest to them, such as parents and other family members (Vygotsky, as cited in Brennan, 2012, p.162.) As a result of this, their social and emotional development is advanced from an early stage. Santrock (2012) also outlines the benefit of play for the child's physical development, as it "permits the child to work off excess physical energy and to release pent–up tensions" (Santrock, 2012, p.438), resulting in improved physical and mental health. Garvey (1991, p.27) states that play involving physical activity occurs more frequently in healthy children, possibly confirming that it is a component of healthy development. In addition to this, encouraging physical activity through play could influence the children to maintain a healthy lifestyle later in life, and has an array of physical and mental health benefits which prevent disease associated with lack of activity (Chaloux and Media, 2013.) Generally, in definition essays, we try to make the terms that we use understandable for the reader. Our understanding of a term may be different from the general concept, or we may be focusing on a specific aspect. Giving an exact definition would enable the reader to follow the ideas and arguments in your essay. Organization: Definition of a term is generally given in the introduction. The development of the essay is dedicated to the explanation of the term. There are many ways to explain a term. It is also possible to employ more than one of these methods of development. • 6. Defining Family Essay Determining family structure and dynamics as well as defining the family is a complex process. Personally, I come from a very traditional family. Much like the assumptions made by the students in the article Defining Family: Young Adults' Perceptions of the Parent –Child Bond by Mellisa Holtzman (2008). This is what comes to mind when most people define family; a nuclear family, with married parents, and biological children. However, a family is a complex system and can take on many different forms. Today, in a world of the "postmodern family" the traditional lines of family structure are blurred. Children may come from diverse types of homes, or a couple, married or not may choose to have no children and consider...show more content... Living with extended family members has also been publicized lately in relation to the poor economy. Young adults who typically lived on their own after college are moving back in with their parents, older adults on fixed incomes that do not go as far as they once did are living with their children. This is a definite shift in the traditional family. Having graduated and moved out on my own prior to the economic decline I have learned to live with less, but having known that was coming I would have considered living at home longer. My siblings have or are planning on moving back in with our parents after college graduation to get ahead money–wise. This is a stressor on not only the individuals as a lack of feelings of freedom, but also an adaptation by the family as a whole that was unplanned years ago. It is my belief that recognizing any family structure or definition is important, as the traditional version may be skewed in so many ways, without knowing or recognizing the "family" that people we run across may come from. We can also learn from other family definitions to build upon our own themes, rules, and beliefs. Adding stigma and prejudice toward families different from our own not only alienate the members, but can add unnecessary stress upon that family system. Stress in any family system can be seen as either an adaptation potential or a negative force. Many effects on the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Extended Definition Research Paper How can writers compose successful extended definition essays? Definition essays needs to explain a word's exact meaning versus the meaning used within a culture. Authors must use a dictionary definition, comparison and contrast, and examples within a definition essay. Narcissist – Give It a Rest, lacks a dictionary definition, but it does have other key elements of a definition essay such as comparison and contrast, and concrete examples. A definition essay needs a clear definition as a basis. Chapter twelve of the Brief Bedford Reader states, "Stating such a definition is often a good way to begin an essay when basic terms may be in doubt." • 8. Feminism Definition Essay What is feminism? According to Merriam–Webster Dictionary the standard definition defines feminism as "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes." I believe the word feminism means a woman who is capable of doing the exact things a man can do. Both men and women are equal regardless the gender. There are many misconceptions when it comes to the word feminism such as, women having hatred towards men, women thinking they're above men, or only women can be feminist, and the gender stereotype. On the other hand, feminism is gender equality, acknowledging that any kind of violence is unacceptable regardless the gender, and realizing that women and men are not the same and recognizing that gender and sex are...show more content... Individuals need to learn and accept that women and men are capable of doing the same things. It should be acknowledged that women can do just as much as men can do. Society needs to put their "beliefs" aside and not view all women as a weak. People should be more open about this topic, instead of assuming. Women are often put down because of their gender. Although, women are able to achieve a role a man can accomplish. A third misconception society expects is, only women can be feminist. As the world changes day by day many people are becoming feminist. Not only females but, men too. Whenever someone labels themselves as a feminist it doesn't affect the movement, whether they're a female or male. Instead, it spreads the word of what feminism really means. For example, my father is a feminist and has no shame of letting the whole world know. My father believes women should have the freedom to make their own choices and women should be able to live their lives how they want to with their educations, careers, bodies, etc. He believes women deserve to have equal pay for the equal amount of work done. My father is always thinking of ways to spread the positivity of feminism. Overall, he supports feminism and believes in equality along with freedom. I strongly believe people should be informed on what the word feminism means. People who haven't been educated about the word feminism, are most likely to believe the typical stereotypes. These people had done a lot of favors, courage, helps, and more of things for the people who needed them. The true definition of hero is a man of distinguished valor. Bravery, courage, intrepidity, boldness, daring, and prowess in war are a hero's characteristics. However a hero is understood to be different to everyone. Upon closer examination, many different qualities than these become apparent. The definition of heroism changes with the context and time. Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to become what everybody doubted they could. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence. Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of becoming like them someday. Even a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don't have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else's life. There is no discretion to become a hero. The perfect hero is one who will defy the odds. One who will do the morally correct thing no matter how hard it is. A true hero won't let you down. A hero will give you opportunity to worship him without regret. Ambition is something many people have however many people don't know what the true meaning of ambition is. The dictionary definition of ambition is, "a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work" (Dictionary.com). Ambition has made great leaders since the dawn of time, like Cleopatra, and any great leader adopts, or already possesses, six habits that are found in the minds and hearts of two of the greatest leaders of the 20th century, Nelson Mandela and Gandhi, but ambition can be seen as a two–faced word causing it to have a negative light as well. Humans adapted to change for centuries. Humans adapted to weather, to wars, and to other humans. Ambition gave her the strength and determination to fight for her kingdom, even when she lost it. Cleopatra lost her kingdom at least twice, almost three times, however, she battled through it and kept getting her kingdom back. Cleopatra's ambition made her a great ancient leader and female leader, "Even at a time when female rulers were no rarity, Cleopatra stood out, the sole woman of her world to rule alone" (Schiff). • 11. Definition Of Health My definition of health is when one feels an overall sensation of healthiness across all 7 aspects of health. A person who focuses independently on each aspect of health, views them as separate entities, and in doing so tries to improve them each individually without thoughts of the other aspects, will rarely ever reach a state of good health. One achieves health through the recognition that all the aspects of health are interconnected and changes in one aspect directly or indirectly influence others and application of this knowledge to their everyday life. At this time in my life, not all 7 dimensions of health are equal to me. As a stressed out first year science student I am personally placing more emphasis on my intellectual/mental health, my emotional health, and my occupational health. My ambition to learn and achieve high grades has left me in a position where I find I often neglect my physical health, social health, environmental health, and spiritual health by isolating ...show more content... Considering that these are only two of the seven aspects of health, and that one should be healthy in all seven aspects to be considered truly healthy, this statement is false. An example of someone who is unhealthy yet looks fine and is not in pain would perhaps be someone who is unsatisfied with their career and has taken to isolating themselves from their family, friends, and coworkers; while they appear physically fit and possibly even in good mental health, they are not healthy occupationally or socially and if they stay in this situation long enough, they might begin to see the negative effects of this unhealthiness in other aspects of their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay on Definitions of Health Definitions of health It is fairly difficult to define health as there are no agreements between scholars. This is why many sociologists focus their research on the different issues and problems of ill health. Positive definition of health: positive health looks at the physical, emotional, intellectual aspects of a person's wellbeing. This is in the way that they do not have any diseases or ailments. An example of the positive definition of health in a health and social care is a nurse in who is working in a hospital can say to one of their patients that have recently started exercising to become more 'healthier' 'you look very healthy'. Positive health looks at what aspects of health are there and which ones make us healthy....show more content... An example of holistic health could be that a psychologist's client may have bipolar disorder and the psychologist would still focus on all of the other aspects of their client's life and not just on the symptoms the client is experiencing of bipolar disorder. Holistic health looks as everything as a whole and never different aspects of health individually. World Health Organisation definition of health: the World Health Organisation defines health as "not merely an absence of disease, but a state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being." (2013 K Pritchett Class Notes) An example of health defined by the World Health Organisation in a health and social care setting could be that in order for a patient of a doctors surgery to be healthy they would have to have a complete state of physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being. This means that if a patient was in a wheel chair they could never be seen as healthy as they do not have a complete state of physical well–being. The World Health Organisation thinks that people must have all complete aspects to be completely healthy. The Clinical Iceberg 'The Clinical Iceberg' is a term used to call the levels of illnesses that are found from official statistics. This is because some people do not always seek medical attention when they become ill therefore these official statistics may not be correct and showing the 'true' levels of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay on What is Happiness? What is happiness? People have agonized over this question for centuries. Let me start this essay by answering a somewhat easier question: what isn't happiness? Happiness is NOT feeling good all the time. Happiness is a combination of human emotions and states of mind. Exploring this state of being has consumed the philosophical minds of the ages and will continue to do so for ages to come. In an unofficial poll of students at State University, I found that of the fifty–eight students and one professor, males and females of several ethnic backgrounds and age groups, that I asked the question "What is happiness to you?", all of them had very different physical, intellectual, or emotional motivator for their happiness. Only the...show more content... But these supplementary explanations do not affect the theory of life on which this theory of morality is grounded namely, that pleasure, and freedom from pain, are the only things desirable as ends; and that all desirable things (which are as numerous in the utilitarian as in any other scheme) are desirable either for the pleasure inherent in themselves, or as means to the promotion of pleasure and the prevention of pain. (Pojman 917) Mill seems to think that happiness comes from the desire to be completely pain–free. He says that happiness comes from selfishly fulfilled desires. The desire to attain only pleasure is ludicrous; for a person to achieve a completely pain–free existence is impossible. To gain complete happiness would leave them with no motivation to achieve anything else. Human nature is such that if a person achieved pure happiness, that person would then become dissatisfied with that happiness, causing them to, once again, be unhappy. A person will always experience something contrary to pleasure, leaving them with some type of pain. In my opinion, people seem to be happy for many different reasons at different times in their lives. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Definition Essay: What Is A Hero? "What is a hero?" The word hero can mean whatever a person wants it to mean. Many people define a role model or person they think is a hero out of their occupations. However, a person does not become a hero because of their occupation or what they do that we envy. A hero is a person who takes a bold step or achievement that requires courage, bravery and a kind heart to do it, and the act is normally done for others. Heroes are not heroes out of their occupations like a doctor. For example, a doctor's work is to save lives, so when they do this, it is what we expect of them. If a doctor saves a drowning child from a swimming pool, he becomes a hero. The doctor demonstrates an act of bravery and courage for the child. So a hero can be any person with or without an occupation, who performs a bold act for others. A hero just has to be someone to sacrifice something for others. Heroes can come from anywhere. Heroes do not have to do action acts such as saving a person. Heroes can even be from acts of kindness. Some...show more content... A hero goes through many difficulties in a journey that poses so many dangers of failure. Many people in such situations would give up and turn back. However, heroes persist on despite challenges and difficulties. Heroes are ordinary people in difficult situations that require courage and even raise fear in them. However, they manage to overcome their fear in order to persist on until they accomplish their mission. The difference between those who become heroes and those who do not is their courage to face difficult situations and never giving up until they accomplish their goal. Their courage allows them to persist on with any challenge that comes their way, despite standing a slight chance of winning. They take up the slim chance and manage to use it to their advantage until they achieve what they intend to achieve for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Definition Essay: What Is A Friend? What is a Friend? Who do you consider your friends? For me, a friend is someone who makes you laugh, they're nice, you can joke around with this person, and it's very easy to tell them anything because you trust them. If I talk to someone occasionally, and we're nice to each other but we never get into weird and funny conversations that later on leads to inside jokes, I wouldn't consider them a friend. All of the people I consider my friends are people who just bring joy to me. One common experience I have had with all my friends is laughing for a very long time non–stop until our stomachs hurt. • 16. Defining Identity Essays There are millions of words across the globe that are used to describe people and uncover their identity, but what is identity? How can you begin to describe something that varies so greatly from one human being to another? Can you create a universal meaning for a word describing human concepts that people often fail to define for themselves? Of course there isn't one definition to define such a word. It is an intricate aspect of human nature, and it has a definition just as complex. Webster's dictionary describes identity as sameness of essential character, individuality, or the fact of being the same person as one claims to be. So your identity can include your name, your age, your job title, or simply characteristics of your...show more content... Everyone has heard that it is who you are on the inside that counts. This part of your identity is what makes a person truly unique. It is true that someone can have the same name, be the same age, or have the same job as you. So your identities would seem very similar. It is possible for two people from the same place that share such numerous interests to believe that they are one and the same. That is until you take a closer look and examine the person?s thought and feelings. No two people are exactly alike. Our identities spawn individuality. Therefore, your identity also shows what kind of person you are beneath the skin. It is a picture of how your view your self and your purpose in the world. Since identity is so often built from fads, it is a reflection of culture. People want to be like what they see on television and hear on the radio. So people mold themselves to be like the idols they are so infatuated with. It?s always about what?s popular, and by looking at a large group you can tell what that is at any given time, because people like to connect their identities with one another. It creates a sense of belonging and acceptance that humans need in order to feel like they fit into society. People have to be able to bond with one another. Having a vastly different identity makes you an outcast, and no one wants to know how it feels to be the loner. So people alter themselves to ensure that they will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Definition Essay Definition Essay Forgiveness by the World English Dictionary is the "act of forgiving; state of being forgiven, disposition or willingness to forgive". But what does it really mean? That is my question. Is being able to forgive and not forget the same thing? In my life, I have found that true forgiveness is a quality that separates us from other species and it is what makes us human. In order to truly and sincerely forgive, one must, aside from saying they have forgiven the person, let it go and not hold a grudge against that person. Just, as Mahatma Gandhi once said: "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong." I believe that holds to be true. Only a humble human being can attain the quality to completely...show more content... I found that I forgave easier or not depending on severity of the circumstance and on the person whom I was forgiving or not. I believe it is easier to forgive an enemy than a person you love because a loved one are not supposed to hurt you in any way. I realized that those who I care more cause the most pain. When I was a child, every time I saw my mother crying and hurting from all the abuse induced by her husband, the person who was supposed to protect her, I ask God, why? I never received an answer. As the abuse continued and life went on, I was never able to forgive him for thesuffering that he caused not only to my mother, but to me as well. I was carrying all the miseries from my childhood and taking out on the people who love and care for me. There was no closure for the pain and suffering. The only person that I saw comfort and security from was my father, a man who never allowed me to pity myself or blame myself for other's actions. He was always there for me until my eighteenth birthday when he decided that I was "old enough to be on my own;" it was his own way to attempt making me independent. Everything became blurry at that point in my life. There was nowhere to turn except the only person who had the opportunities in her eighty years to master the meaning of true forgiveness: my grandmother, Consuelo, which her name literally means to console. Living with her and listening to her life stories allowed me to comprehend Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Family Definition Beliefs about Definition and Membership Regarding Family Family is a group of people who are related by blood, marriage, or adoption. This is the definition adopted by the U.S. government, and I believe it is the most accurate. Family holds a sense of commitment over time. This excludes friends, significant others, and pets. Friends may come in and out of your life, especially after moving or significant life transitions. Boyfriends and girlfriends are open to walk away once the relationship is not going as they would like since there is not the commitment of marriage. I like pictures, videos, demonstrations, anything that will help me to visualize concepts. I can remember things much better if I have a way to see it in my mind, whether than is visioning the spelling of word when I try to write it or thinking of a concrete example that goes along with the concept. I think that my instinct would be to teach this way as well because that's what works for me. As I mentioned, using visuals is very helpful for me. But more than that, I think that practicing what I am learning is the best way for me to understand something. For example, if I am learning about how to knead bread, it is helpful for me to watch a demonstration first, but then I need to physically knead the bread in order to put the entire concept together. Watching alone only gets me part way there. I would really like to use a more kinesthetic, hands on approach in my own classroom someday. I like to be up and active and having others do things along with me, and I think most people learn well doing hands on activities. I would incorporate other helpful methods along with using movement, though. I know for myself that I need that visual guidance first, whether that is watching someone or even reading instruction, but if I just listen to someone explain the process, I most likely will miss a lot of key pieces of information. So, my goal would be to use both visual and auditory elements to introduce Get more content on HelpWriting.net

To some it means money or having a good career, when to some it's much simpler than that. Dicontary.com defines success as "the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one's goals." To me success is as simple as happiness, having a mindset where everything revolves around peace and doing the best I can. Having a steady paycheck to afford your lifestyle, I will agree is successful but I think of that more, as good fortune than anything. • 20. Essay on The Meaning of Life The Meaning of Life My few years on this planet have been a bit confusing. I have learned of many aspects of life from which one can draw meaning, if indeed such meaning can be drawn. I have also learned that there can be no singular meaning of life to stand for us all, or even any one of us. What I have learned above all is that trying to put words to the meaning of life is a task of absolute absurdity. This is not to be confused with the idea that life has no meaning, for life certainly has meaning. However, there is no single meaning of life to be defined – life is different for us all. Therefore, rather than define life for an entire planet, I shall try to explain what life means as I perceive it, and why it means so. ...show more content... Life is a complicated twist of suffering, laughing, and learning all merging to tell a great story – or great many stories. Based on this view, "it is not the end goal or outcome of life that gives life meaning but rather the quality of the story, the quality with which one lives out and develops his or her role." At the time, this event seemed rather insignificant and did not merit remembrance. However, its catastrophic effects on my attitude that evening may have helped to mold me into the person I have become. I learned that suffering through such an event, as childish as it was, is quite necessary in any life. Such pains are part of an interminable cycle and only generate balance in one's life (p. 62, 'Life as Suffering'). Despite my horrid time spent that evening, the laughter brought since the incident is a worthy tradeoff. Laughter is an all too necessary function of life, just as suffering and the wide range of other emotions. "Some thinkers would emphasize the importance of sophistication in humor, but others would say that laughter itself is what is important." Whatever the case may be, laughter is an important ingredient in life, and must not be taken for granted nor ignored. Despite such emotional ties to life, I have also learned that life is not only about emotions. Those emotions are generated from the chain reactions created endlessly in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
