Understanding Visual Arguments
Understanding visual arguments requires you to use images to influence a person's thoughts or
decisions. This is done by using pictures, which are symbols that must be analyze to determine the
creators purpose. I believe that visual argumentation is a better form of argument to reaching out to
numerous people, because today society is so technologically advanced. There are many ways that
Visual arguments can be used in different types of genres. Such as advertisements, editorial cartoons,
and public sculptures. Advertisements target a certain audience in most cases to influence their
decision to purchase a product. Most ads combine pictures with slogans to make their products
memorable and more appealing. Editorial cartoons can be found in

Making Visual Arguments
1.)You are likely to encounter a visual argument anytime you come around a magazine, Television, or
a photograph. People recognize a visual argument because it tells so many different arguments
inform different perspectives. It creates emotion and creates a visual representation about what is
being portrait to the audience. 2.)The eight special features that make visual argument convincing
according to Nancy Wood is "Communicate quickly and have immediate and tangible effects on
viewers. Invite Viewer Identification and establish common ground through shared values. Engage
the emotions of the viewers. Juxtapose materials from different categories so that the viewer will
make new links and associations. Employ familiar icons that prompt immediate

Thesis. Without looking at the paper, summarize or paraphrase the author's argument or main point
that s/he is trying to convey to the reader. Accordingly, there is a need for a centralized repository of
information regarding their instruments and equipment and using a web–based application is better
than a spreadsheet desktop application as it provides current and updated data. The proposed
system should also be able to keep track of all events (troubleshooting, repairs and the likes) done to
the ship's assets.
Aspect 2
Introduction: strategies. Does the introduction make you want to keep reading? Why or why not? Is
it a fairly traditional opening? How would you characterize the writing strategies used in the
introduction?
Definitely. The author's effort is clearly seen as the introduction logically connects components of

Does the author include visual rhetoric in the draft? If so, is it used effectively? Is its function
ornamental or argumentative? Please give the author advice about the use of visual rhetoric,
including suggestions for inclusions (or exclusions!) that may impact the argument of the paper.
Although I find the paper somewhat well–constructed, I would concede that additional visual
rhetoric would still make the paper more comprehensible. Control flow, DFD or may be a sample
proposed generated system/app report could have been added but in defense of the author, these will
be done in the succeeding phases.
Aspect 15
Final comments. Below, write the author a brief note about the paper. In particular, focus on what
your agenda for the next two weeks would be if this were your paper.
I would like thank the author for providing me nice time reading the paper as it was logically
arranged, compact and comprehensible. I would, however, suggest that the author add visual
rhetoric, epigraph and include some best practices observed in doing inventory and management
processes. Good luck

Visual Analysis : Drinking And Driving
Visual Analysis Rough Draft Drinking and driving is prone to fatalities for the driver and the
people surrounding them. An advertisement created by the Polis Repablik Singapura (Singapore
Police Force), warned viewers of the dangers caused from drinking and driving by exhibiting a key
that has been created to impersonate a knife with blood. This ad against drunk driving displays a
common figure that has been enhanced to discuss the actual meaning of the message to convince
the audience that drinking and driving leads to death. The artist used a simple artistic concept in
order to convey the message without the audience needing to over think the main theme of the ad.
A car key displayed as a blade, was used as the central image to show that a simple item of everyday
life can become a lethal weapon if handled irresponsibly. A white background, black–bold texts, and
red ink, enhances the viewer's eyes to become drawn to the primary purpose of the ad without the
distractions of unnecessary bright variations of color. The artist included the hand of a person
grasping a key that contained blood splotches in the image to directly portray that the driver has
control. The unembellished use of including these factors aided the goal of the campaign because it
did not contain elements that could interrupt the focal point of the ad. The presence of a commonly
used object as the importance of this ad, reveals to the audience that drunk driving is nearby. This
brings attention to all

Visual Argument Essay: Is Nature at Threat?
The human race over the span of many years have exploited nature for the resources that allow us
to conduct and live everyday life. However, as these resources become more and more scarce,
should we as a species stand idly by as these precious resources that allow us to live modern life
and function and survive as human beings become depleted? The doctored photo, which was
produced by the organization The World Wildlife Fund, depicts are forest of trees which take the
shape of human lungs and show damage to the right lung. This damage can be interpreted in many
ways, but all of which are detrimental to ones' wellbeing. The way in which I have interpreted this
photo is that the destruction of forestation...show more content...
Although the cries for deforestation to be stopped may not be heard by those in power, or by
companies whose business and profits depend on doing so, many individuals were shown that this is
a problem. According to the World Wildlife Fund, its goal is to "... eliminate one of the largest
drivers of deforestation... prevent the irresponsible expansion of agricultural operations." The World
Wildlife Fund is also committed to ensuring that businesses, government, and others meet their
commitments to help conserve the world forests, and protect the only world we

Visual Evidence Of Ethos Pathos Logos
Visual arguments can bring to readers great impact with pathos, ethos, and logos. In the
advertising from the page 78, there are evidence of visual with pathos, ethos, and logos. The
advertising said "DON'T LET TEXTING BLIND YOU." that is enough to arouse to reader's
attention emotionally. It is important that most public service ads make readers aware of the
purpose of advertising by making them stand out and sometimes exciting because Just a moment's
carelessness on the part of the drivers caused horrible or dreadful accidents. Also, in the advertising
the driver's eyesight looks like a dangerous situation. I am sure that every drivers have experienced
that they had been texting while a driving. Maybe, many readers have ethically reflected

How Do Visual Arguments Work?
Visual arguments agreeably have more information conveyed through them, opposed to standard
written arguments. Interpretation of a visual argument is important for the person presenting the
argument, because if the visual gives off an interpretation opposite what the person was trying to
argue, they may have failed. I agree that visuals as striking as the one in "How Do Visual
Arguments Work?" are frequently used to try to sway people's emotions in order to sway their
agreement or disagreement of the topic. I also agree that visual arguments can be better understood
by first breaking the visual down and then analyzing each part as an individual piece. While this
method seems quite obvious, it also seems to be overlooked often, probably because

Visual Argumentative Essay On Icy Water
"Some images [visual and multimedia] are so iconic that they become part of our cultural memory."
(Pg.326). Take, as an example, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video–an ingenious idea, a powerful
visual argument that is spreading ALS awareness nationwide. For the past few weeks, social media
have been shown videos of people pouring icy water on themselves for the ALS Association. If,
before the video, the image of people throwing icy water on themselves was associated with summer
games––or with the hot weather–– now the same image belongs to the ALS Association. And a
bucket and icy water–two ordinary images–have become ASL iconic symbols. Therefore, as
McLuhan says, "We shape our tools and afterwards our tools shape us." (Pg. 327). Is, then, the
medium –in this case the bucket of icy water–the most important element of a visual argument?
For McLuhan "the medium [the bucket, the icy water] is the message [and]...All media works us
over completely" (pg. 327).I agree in saying that the medium is important. However, "since people
don't always see things the same way" (pg. 329) the medium largely depend on your audience. A
bucket of icy water might reach...show more content...
Who creates the visual argument and why the argument was created are also important visual
elements. Therefore, in making a successful visual argument–– all the key components–the creators
and distributors, the medium, the viewers and readers, the content and purpose of the argument, and
its design (pg. 329) are equally important. Therefore,"You want every image or use of multimedia to
carry out ...purpose." (Pg. 334), and that "Almost every design element sends signals about character
and ethos." (Pg. 337). You want that, "Every choice of medium says something important about you.
" (Pg. 339) and, in addition to all the foregoing, your visual argument should trigger emotions
(pg.334); show your values, trustworthiness and authority. (Pg.

An Argument Of Visual Rhetoric
Ana Hernandez Mrs. Pawlak Engl. 114A October 28, 2015 Responding to Visual Rhetoric Ever
thought about how different our world would be if everyone accepted everyone for who they are
or who they choose to be? Many people in today's society are labeling or are being labeled by
others. People think that by targeting others with their own opinion, they will be able to make a
change. There is so much controversy on whether or not being a transgender or homosexual is
okay. There is a rising population of transgender and homosexual people in our society. A
transgender is a person who insists that they were born into the wrong body. While they have the
body of one gender, transgender people have the conscience of the opposite gender. A homosexual
is someone who is emotionally and physically attracted to the same sex or gender. According to
www.statista.com: "2.2% of adult men identify as being gay in the U.S. and 1.1% of women
identify as being lesbian." As well as statista.com, marieclaire.com states: "According to 2011
findings from the Williams Institute, the transgender population represents about 0.3% of American
adults. But there is still so much controversy on whether or not being a transgender or homosexual
is okay. Many people think that it is okay to judge others by what they look like or whom they
choose to fall in and out of love with. They also think it is okay to endanger the lives of those who
they think don't have the "right kind of mindset." According to

10 September 2015 Visual Argument
Throughout the world, drinking and driving has been proven to harm many people. In the photo, the
photographer does a good job in showing that drinking and driving is the wrong choice in life. He
does this by showing that when the driver is turning the key to start the vehicle, that everyone has
that one moment in which they think about is driving drunk something they want to do. I believe
that the photographer clearly and successfully shows that drinking and driving is harmful in the
photo.
Drinking and driving causes harm too many people throughout the world. For example, "in 2013, ten

Are E Portfolios A Visual Argument?
Are e–portfolios a visual argument? "Create your own visual style... let it be unique for yourself and
yet identifiable for others" Orson Welles. E–portfolios are where students can write about your
accomplishments, reflections, their learning process and many more information about themselves.
E–portfolio is an example of a visual argument. A visual argument is a graphic representation of a
written argument, which served as a compact visual depiction of their thesis. Each e–portfolio is
different, none are the same because they are made and designed by different students. Each
student's creativity and outline is different, they all still contain color, an outline and images. An
e–portfolio can be a place where anyone can express himself or herself in any kind away, through
images, the outline, and creativity in general. The E–portfolio is an effective visual argument, due to
the use of rhetorical elements, use of images, outline to capture the reader's attention in the

elements used is ethos. Ethos is credibility, which also involves persuasion. Ethos is used to define
the student's information credibility. Many of the e–portfolios contain the courses that that the
student has taken, where it took place and when they took the course. Also a lot of the e–portfolios
have the students resume. A resume is a brief written account of personal, educational, and

Visual Argumentative Analysis
The creator uses their visual argument to persuade their audience of teachers and parents that
being tardy doesn't correlate with bad grades. The author demonstrates this by using color. The
author used the color black, bright yellow and red. The artist used the color black to create
contrast with the white table to make it become a focal point and stand out more. The bright
yellow shirt of the girl on the left and her lighter hair color brings attention to her as well as her
surroundings. In addition, Red is an eye catching color which makes the audience notice the late
pass and the grades on the papers. The image shows juxtaposition to exaggerate the differences in
grades that both girls received. They addressed that the girl on the right

Visual Argument Essay
In the visual argument that I created I wanted to portray the idea of deforestation and how it
affects the animals and the wildlife living in these forests and other habitats. So In my image I
included an endangered red squirrel leaving its destroyed habitat while carrying a bindle. This
visual argument's purpose is mostly to inform but can also be persuasive so that people may take
action in trying to save wildlife. . I designed the image by using four different photographs (not
taken by myself) and photoshopped them together to create one piece, I also made a drawing to
exhibit the image as well. The sources I used to create the digital piece were mostly websites with
articles, pictures and information on deforestation. I used this information...show more content...
To do this I placed the squirrel in the bottom left corner, not to far away from the middle then and
I put the chopped up logs near the top right corner in the middle ground. The rest of the picture it
shows smoke and dead trees for the background. My goal was to balance out the three concepts
but to have the squirrel and the bindle be the main focus. I also included vector lines using the
pathway so that the audience will look at the squirrel, the bindle and then the background. My
intended message is to exhibit the disaster of deforestation in a mellow and melancholy way. I
chose this genre because I thought that it is outrageous that animals are being forced out of their
homes. I also believe that we can do something about this, and although some people are trying to
resolve this dilemma every one needs to pitch in in order for the endangered animals to be saved.
So really the general population just needs to be motivated to take action instead of seeing the
problem feeling bad about it then moving on. In my image I want to show that while we are
carrying on with our lives our actions are destroying other and we need to do something about it
before it's too

For the photograph that I took, I decided to follow Weston's theme and photograph an organic
object with interesting features. I needed to find something with a vivid texture so that the
photograph could allow the viewer to almost feel what I could. I searched throughout my room
until finally, I found what I was looking for. It was a shell from the Pacific Ocean that I had
brought back with me from Mexico. The shell had off–whites blended into browns and reds. It also
had ridges running from the origin of the shell, to the outside. I found the situation to be somewhat
ironic considering that Weston had lived in Mexico taking photographs, and also took pictures of
shells. The camera that I used to photograph the shell was a Canon EOS Rebel...show more content...
Each ridge is visible and grows in size as it migrates from the origin to the edge, which shows how
perfect and mathematical nature can be at times. The change in color pattern is also very visible.
There is even a small chip in the shell can be seen at the top left corner. Some of the lint of the
peacoat is visible in the picture, but it only gives enough so much as to emphasize the texture of
the backdrop. When I went to print the picture, I edited the picture so that it would look black
and white like the rest of Weston's photographs. I also added a little more contrast to the picture
so that the lines of the shell would look a tiny bit sharper because I wanted to make up for not
having a 64 aperture. In my opinion, the photograph holds a very close resemblance to Weston's
pictures of shells in which he tried to capture all of their natural beauty. I like the way the photo
turned out, but wish I could have had a better area to take the picture instead of laying on the
ground and using books. The picture may have come out a hair more detailed if I would have had
a tripod, but I don't think it made that big of a difference. I believe that I was able to try and
replicate Weston's process to the best of my ability with the tools I

Visual Argument Analysis
Today, it is without a doubt that public communication is at the heart of our economy, our politics
and our society. It is being used in different aspects of society – studios use it to advertise their films.
Advocates use it to encourage social causes. The businessmen use it to furnish their image.
Politicians use it, for them to get elected. It is a field constructed on various ideas and images, many
information and persuasion, tactics and strategy. There is no product or policy that will ever succeed
without a clever message that targets the right audience or people in innovative and creative ways.

Visual arguments can be very useful in terms of passing a message along to the public. Common
examples of an advertisement would be seen on TV ads, possibly a poster, billboard, and
commercials. An ad that caught my eye is a powerful image portraying verbal abuse. It shows a
man screaming at a woman with a fist coming out of the man's mouth and punching the woman in
the face. It basically relays the message of how verbal abuse is just as bad or hurtful as physical
violence and abuse. This ad also attempts to target the emotion of the viewers. Her facial expression
is key in this ad. There are no textual elements but the picture is strong enough to the point that texts
is no longer needed. The ad does not put us in the situation but it shows us how verbal abuse can be
extremely hurtful. Collingwood argues that other sentient beings are able to engage with art and get
a sense of the 'total imaginative experience' that prompted it. Collingwood mentions that "There is a
particular process of recognition that happens which, if the art has succeeded in communicating on
more than a purely idiosyncratic level, leads to enhanced self–knowledge, and by extension an
enhanced collective self–knowledge. Given the fundamental formulation of the artistic process, and
especially given the unavoidable loss of intensity of feeling even for the artist, then clearly the
engagement of the fellow sentient being is not one of the equivalence with that of the artist, but an
imaginative engagement based on the stimulus to hand, be it poem, sound of tactile art." (Swale.

Visual Culture Essay
Visual Culture
Visual culture is wisely considered to be a field of study which focuses on all aspects of culture
which rely on visual images. Visual technology undeniably has a central importance in the
contemporary culture. It plays a phenomenally important role in enhancing our visual capability and
helps us in perceiving myriad cultural beliefs in addition to guiding us when managing behavior,
values, and social relationships. Visual culture is based on a wide range of mediums which serve as
core visual components and foster visual imagery in human minds like video games, internet,
advertisements, comics, and media. These visual media play an essential role in deciding how we

This could be applied to a traffic sign which is a code basically and a visual image also but as we
come on terms with the meaning implied by the code in that traffic sign, we begin to get less
intrigued by the image shown by that traffic sign. However, same cannot be held true for most of
the visual images as the majority has a central importance in our lives. Once the images make a
person enter into meaning–making process by way of engaging and interacting with him/her, they
also simultaneously influence his/her mind to reach a certain decision which is why visual images
form such an immense part of a culture as they can aid us in comprehending cultural values and
complying with them. Also while watching television, "acquiring an understanding of the visual and
textual conventions of a particular show must be regarded as part of the pleasure of watching"
(Mirzoeff, 1999, p. 18).
Jasmine (2012) in her writings about the effects of visual images suggests a particularly interesting
medium for understanding the linkage between visual culture and social relationships. She implies
that one needs to acquire sufficient knowledge and gather facts about the physiognomy of eyes and
the psychology of visual perception in order to better understand the ABCs of how visual images
become able to impact us and our social

Visual persuasion and propaganda in mass media: example of Putin's covers in Time magazine
As we have seen throughout the course visual communication techniques play significant role in our
life since it touches upon almost every sphere starting from social aspects to political ones. These
techniques are not important per se but rather there is a particular purpose they seek. One of these
purposes is persuasion. According to Lester (p. 77): "communication is fundamentally and
essentially a matter of persuasion, attitude change, behavior modification, and socialization through
the transmission of information". Images are an essential part of the visual persuasion, which modern
mass media incorporates. As we have observed in our readings this visual persuasion can take
different forms in order to be the most effective and to achieve its goal. Lester states that: "most
information, whether factual or not, is communicated through the mass media. More and more that
information relies on the emotional appeal inherent in visual presentations" (ibid). Moreover:
"pictures have always been the surest way of conveying an idea" (ibid). One of the brightest
examples is the covers of different newspapers and journals that not only demonstrate the certain
attitude and opinion toward particular topics but also try to make the...show more content...

study showed that apart from love and passion red color symbolized "danger and strength" (316).
The cover seems to state that actions that Putin has undertaken are inherently bad and Putin himself

important because this is the way to send my argument message to the audience. The visual
components in my poster are the use of colors, use of images, use of font and text, and choice of

  • 1. Understanding Visual Arguments Understanding visual arguments requires you to use images to influence a person's thoughts or decisions. I believe that visual argumentation is a better form of argument to reaching out to numerous people, because today society is so technologically advanced. • 3. Example Of Visual Rhetoric Aspect 1 Thesis. Without looking at the paper, summarize or paraphrase the author's argument or main point that s/he is trying to convey to the reader. Accordingly, there is a need for a centralized repository of information regarding their instruments and equipment and using a web–based application is better than a spreadsheet desktop application as it provides current and updated data. The proposed system should also be able to keep track of all events (troubleshooting, repairs and the likes) done to the ship's assets. Aspect 2 Introduction: strategies. Does the introduction make you want to keep reading? Why or why not? Is it a fairly traditional opening? How would you characterize the writing strategies used in the introduction? Definitely. If so, is it used effectively? Is its function ornamental or argumentative? Please give the author advice about the use of visual rhetoric, including suggestions for inclusions (or exclusions!) that may impact the argument of the paper. Although I find the paper somewhat well–constructed, I would concede that additional visual rhetoric would still make the paper more comprehensible. Control flow, DFD or may be a sample proposed generated system/app report could have been added but in defense of the author, these will be done in the succeeding phases. Aspect 15 Final comments. Below, write the author a brief note about the paper. In particular, focus on what your agenda for the next two weeks would be if this were your paper. I would like thank the author for providing me nice time reading the paper as it was logically arranged, compact and comprehensible. I would, however, suggest that the author add visual rhetoric, epigraph and include some best practices observed in doing inventory and management processes. • 4. Visual Analysis : Drinking And Driving Visual Analysis Rough Draft Drinking and driving is prone to fatalities for the driver and the people surrounding them. An advertisement created by the Polis Repablik Singapura (Singapore Police Force), warned viewers of the dangers caused from drinking and driving by exhibiting a key that has been created to impersonate a knife with blood. This ad against drunk driving displays a common figure that has been enhanced to discuss the actual meaning of the message to convince the audience that drinking and driving leads to death. The artist used a simple artistic concept in order to convey the message without the audience needing to over think the main theme of the ad. A car key displayed as a blade, was used as the central image to show that a simple item of everyday life can become a lethal weapon if handled irresponsibly. A white background, black–bold texts, and red ink, enhances the viewer's eyes to become drawn to the primary purpose of the ad without the distractions of unnecessary bright variations of color. The artist included the hand of a person grasping a key that contained blood splotches in the image to directly portray that the driver has control. The unembellished use of including these factors aided the goal of the campaign because it did not contain elements that could interrupt the focal point of the ad. The presence of a commonly used object as the importance of this ad, reveals to the audience that drunk driving is nearby. This brings attention to all Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The human race over the span of many years have exploited nature for the resources that allow us to conduct and live everyday life. However, as these resources become more and more scarce, should we as a species stand idly by as these precious resources that allow us to live modern life and function and survive as human beings become depleted? • 7. How Do Visual Arguments Work? Visual arguments agreeably have more information conveyed through them, opposed to standard written arguments. Interpretation of a visual argument is important for the person presenting the argument, because if the visual gives off an interpretation opposite what the person was trying to argue, they may have failed. I agree that visuals as striking as the one in "How Do Visual Arguments Work?" are frequently used to try to sway people's emotions in order to sway their agreement or disagreement of the topic. I also agree that visual arguments can be better understood by first breaking the visual down and then analyzing each part as an individual piece. While this method seems quite obvious, it also seems to be overlooked often, probably because Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Visual Argumentative Essay On Icy Water "Some images [visual and multimedia] are so iconic that they become part of our cultural memory." (Pg.326). Take, as an example, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video–an ingenious idea, a powerful visual argument that is spreading ALS awareness nationwide. For the past few weeks, social media have been shown videos of people pouring icy water on themselves for the ALS Association. If, before the video, the image of people throwing icy water on themselves was associated with summer games––or with the hot weather–– now the same image belongs to the ALS Association. And a bucket and icy water–two ordinary images–have become ASL iconic symbols. Therefore, as McLuhan says, "We shape our tools and afterwards our tools shape us." (Pg. 327). Is, then, the medium –in this case the bucket of icy water–the most important element of a visual argument? For McLuhan "the medium [the bucket, the icy water] is the message [and]...All media works us over completely" (pg. 327).I agree in saying that the medium is important. However, "since people don't always see things the same way" (pg. 329) the medium largely depend on your audience. A bucket of icy water might reach...show more content... Who creates the visual argument and why the argument was created are also important visual elements. Therefore, in making a successful visual argument–– all the key components–the creators and distributors, the medium, the viewers and readers, the content and purpose of the argument, and its design (pg. 329) are equally important. Therefore,"You want every image or use of multimedia to carry out ...purpose." (Pg. 334), and that "Almost every design element sends signals about character and ethos." (Pg. 337). You want that, "Every choice of medium says something important about you. " (Pg. 339) and, in addition to all the foregoing, your visual argument should trigger emotions (pg.334); show your values, trustworthiness and authority. (Pg. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. An Argument Of Visual Rhetoric Ana Hernandez Mrs. Pawlak Engl. 114A October 28, 2015 Responding to Visual Rhetoric Ever thought about how different our world would be if everyone accepted everyone for who they are or who they choose to be? Many people in today's society are labeling or are being labeled by others. People think that by targeting others with their own opinion, they will be able to make a change. There is so much controversy on whether or not being a transgender or homosexual is okay. There is a rising population of transgender and homosexual people in our society. A transgender is a person who insists that they were born into the wrong body. While they have the body of one gender, transgender people have the conscience of the opposite gender. A homosexual is someone who is emotionally and physically attracted to the same sex or gender. According to www.statista.com: "2.2% of adult men identify as being gay in the U.S. and 1.1% of women identify as being lesbian." As well as statista.com, marieclaire.com states: "According to 2011 findings from the Williams Institute, the transgender population represents about 0.3% of American adults. But there is still so much controversy on whether or not being a transgender or homosexual is okay. Many people think that it is okay to judge others by what they look like or whom they choose to fall in and out of love with. They also think it is okay to endanger the lives of those who they think don't have the "right kind of mindset." According to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 12. Visual Argumentative Analysis The creator uses their visual argument to persuade their audience of teachers and parents that being tardy doesn't correlate with bad grades. The author demonstrates this by using color. The author used the color black, bright yellow and red. The artist used the color black to create contrast with the white table to make it become a focal point and stand out more. The bright yellow shirt of the girl on the left and her lighter hair color brings attention to her as well as her surroundings. • 13. Visual Argument Essay In the visual argument that I created I wanted to portray the idea of deforestation and how it affects the animals and the wildlife living in these forests and other habitats. So In my image I included an endangered red squirrel leaving its destroyed habitat while carrying a bindle. This visual argument's purpose is mostly to inform but can also be persuasive so that people may take action in trying to save wildlife. . I designed the image by using four different photographs (not taken by myself) and photoshopped them together to create one piece, I also made a drawing to exhibit the image as well. The sources I used to create the digital piece were mostly websites with articles, pictures and information on deforestation. I used this information...show more content... To do this I placed the squirrel in the bottom left corner, not to far away from the middle then and I put the chopped up logs near the top right corner in the middle ground. The rest of the picture it shows smoke and dead trees for the background. My goal was to balance out the three concepts but to have the squirrel and the bindle be the main focus. I also included vector lines using the pathway so that the audience will look at the squirrel, the bindle and then the background. My intended message is to exhibit the disaster of deforestation in a mellow and melancholy way. I chose this genre because I thought that it is outrageous that animals are being forced out of their homes. I also believe that we can do something about this, and although some people are trying to resolve this dilemma every one needs to pitch in in order for the endangered animals to be saved. So really the general population just needs to be motivated to take action instead of seeing the problem feeling bad about it then moving on. In my image I want to show that while we are carrying on with our lives our actions are destroying other and we need to do something about it before it's too Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Visual Analysis Essay Examples For the photograph that I took, I decided to follow Weston's theme and photograph an organic object with interesting features. I needed to find something with a vivid texture so that the photograph could allow the viewer to almost feel what I could. I searched throughout my room until finally, I found what I was looking for. It was a shell from the Pacific Ocean that I had brought back with me from Mexico. The shell had off–whites blended into browns and reds. It also had ridges running from the origin of the shell, to the outside. I found the situation to be somewhat ironic considering that Weston had lived in Mexico taking photographs, and also took pictures of shells. The camera that I used to photograph the shell was a Canon EOS Rebel...show more content... Each ridge is visible and grows in size as it migrates from the origin to the edge, which shows how perfect and mathematical nature can be at times. The change in color pattern is also very visible. There is even a small chip in the shell can be seen at the top left corner. Some of the lint of the peacoat is visible in the picture, but it only gives enough so much as to emphasize the texture of the backdrop. When I went to print the picture, I edited the picture so that it would look black and white like the rest of Weston's photographs. I also added a little more contrast to the picture so that the lines of the shell would look a tiny bit sharper because I wanted to make up for not having a 64 aperture. In my opinion, the photograph holds a very close resemblance to Weston's pictures of shells in which he tried to capture all of their natural beauty. I like the way the photo turned out, but wish I could have had a better area to take the picture instead of laying on the ground and using books. The picture may have come out a hair more detailed if I would have had a tripod, but I don't think it made that big of a difference. Visual arguments can be very useful in terms of passing a message along to the public. Common examples of an advertisement would be seen on TV ads, possibly a poster, billboard, and commercials. An ad that caught my eye is a powerful image portraying verbal abuse. It shows a man screaming at a woman with a fist coming out of the man's mouth and punching the woman in the face. It basically relays the message of how verbal abuse is just as bad or hurtful as physical violence and abuse. This ad also attempts to target the emotion of the viewers. Her facial expression is key in this ad. There are no textual elements but the picture is strong enough to the point that texts is no longer needed. The ad does not put us in the situation but it shows us how verbal abuse can be extremely hurtful. Collingwood argues that other sentient beings are able to engage with art and get a sense of the 'total imaginative experience' that prompted it. Collingwood mentions that "There is a particular process of recognition that happens which, if the art has succeeded in communicating on more than a purely idiosyncratic level, leads to enhanced self–knowledge, and by extension an enhanced collective self–knowledge. Given the fundamental formulation of the artistic process, and especially given the unavoidable loss of intensity of feeling even for the artist, then clearly the engagement of the fellow sentient being is not one of the equivalence with that of the artist, but an imaginative engagement based on the stimulus to hand, be it poem, sound of tactile art." These techniques are not important per se but rather there is a particular purpose they seek. One of these purposes is persuasion. According to Lester (p. 77): "communication is fundamentally and essentially a matter of persuasion, attitude change, behavior modification, and socialization through the transmission of information". Images are an essential part of the visual persuasion, which modern mass media incorporates. As we have observed in our readings this visual persuasion can take different forms in order to be the most effective and to achieve its goal. Lester states that: "most information, whether factual or not, is communicated through the mass media. More and more that information relies on the emotional appeal inherent in visual presentations" (ibid). Moreover: "pictures have always been the surest way of conveying an idea" (ibid).
