Therapeutic Modalities
Using therapeutic modalities is not a new thing in the world. There is evidence it has been being
used since ancient Greek and Roman times. A therapeutic modality is using a device that helps treat
a patient. Examples of commonly used modalities are heat, cold, massage, or ultrasound. Although
therapeutic modalities are the commonly accepted term for this things, some people do believe that
I would be more accurately described with the name physical agents. Physical agents mean doing a
treatment that results in a change to the patient's body. No matter what you call it, it is important to
understand that you must have formal preparation to use it. Doing so will make sure you are using
the forms as safely as possible and not causing harm. The

Touch Observation
When I began sitting on the front porch of Stout I was really hoping to see the sunset, however, I
quickly realized this wasn't going to happen for two reasons. For one, I was facing the wrong way
and secondly I started observing a few minutes too soon. I was expecting to hear a quite a few
animals and birds outside but nothing much other than that. I also was excited to see whether or not
I would be able to taste anything during my observations. I expected to see many students walking
back and forth along the walkways and to see some cars driving by. As for touch, I wasn't really
sure how I was going to go about experiencing a touch, and I figured I would settle for touching
whatever object I was sitting on. Also because it had just rained

FEAR OF INDEPENDENCE
Thomas Hardy, a famous novelist once said, "Fear is the mother of foresight". This quotation may
be interpreted in many different ways, one being that by experiencing fear, an individual begins to
develop an ability to predict possible outcomes of their decisions. In Kari Strutt's short story
"Touching Bottom", the protagonist decides to overcome her fear of murky waters, an action that
results in her ability to foresee her future as being very independent. The main character's fear affects
her decision making process for much of her early life; if not for the interplay between the
protagonist's distressing emotions and inability to see her life as an independent woman, her choices
may seem foolish and insignificant. The unnamed woman's act of overcoming her fear by literally
"Touching bottom" results in her movement away from her husband to enjoy a life on her own.
The protagonist is a very dependent individual due to critical moments in her childhood where
she relies on her father for guidance and strays away from her fears, specifically her fear of murky
waters. The main character in the story relies on her father for all of her childhood; he acts as a
safety blanket to her and uses a yellow towel to physically comfort her: "He wrapped me in a clean
yellow towel, and the fear, what was left of it, evaporated" (124). When the girl turns seven, she
attends Camp Kinaird with many other young girls where they all learned how to swim. This camp

Therapeutic Touch Essay
Dolores Krieger RN and Dora Kunz discovered the nursing technique called therapeutic touch and it
emerged in the early 1970s. Therapeutic touch is energy therapy that is said to facilitate healings and
reduce any pain or anxiety a person is facing. Therapeutic touch is an interpretation of multiple
ancient healing practices that is supposed to reduce a person's suffering. This is a healing technique
is also commonly used as a nursing technique that does not have any type of contact. In the online
articled named, Further Notes on Therapeutic Touch, the author Kevin Courcey, R.N., states that,
"...the original protocol was based on actual physical touch [3], subsequent research claimed that
similar results could be obtained without touching the

In "Touching the Earth" written by Bell Hooks, she explains her culture and is not only writing to
black Americans, but to every ethnicity and future generations. She talks about stories from her past
and the importance of nature to her and her family. Hooks wants to convince the readers to cherish
and take care of the Earth, to grow produce and gain respect for nature. This essay was successful at
explaining the beauty and importance of the Earth by the use of pathos, the history of slaves, and the
obtaining of land.
The use of pathos is what makes this essay influential because Hooks emotionally persuades her
audience to feel similar about nature as she does, without much logical evidence. To attach her
audience to the essay, Hooks uses various experts and quotes in hope to pull the reader in. "I wish
to live because life has within it that which is good, that which is beautiful, and that which is love
(Hansberry, qtd: in Hooks 968)." This expert supports Hooks emotional appeal of wanting the
reader to look at nature positively so they can appreciate it and can see life as she does:
marvelous. Pathos was effective in Hooks essay because her audience will more likely comply with
her, and not take nature for granted. She wants people to not be discouraged with what happens in
daily life, but be happy with nature's beauty around them, and see nature as she does; wonderful and
beneficial to the human race.
Hooks uses the history of slavery to persuade her readers that nature is consistently there when
people are not. Using the history of slaves connects her audience because a majority of readers
will have knowledge of slavery and can understand how awful life was for slaves when freed.
When the blacks first came to America they were brought in as slaves to grow crops, so they
gained knowledge and respect for the land. Hooks explains that farming became their passion
because when the slaves were freed, they did not know how to read or write; farming was all they
knew. A poem written by Waring Cuney– "She does not know her beauty, she thinks her brown
body has no glory. If she could dance naked, under the palm trees and see her image in the river she
would know. But there are no palm trees on the street, and

The Possibility Of Touching To Patients
It is key for nurses to know how to use touch and in some cases patients will respond better to
touch than trying to talk to them. Touching must be done appropriately, and it is up to the nurses
to assess whether the patient would feel comfortable with them doing so. Not everyone would
feel at ease with closeness and may feel their personal space imposed (Segal, 2016). Touch has
also been found to be a very powerful tool when making a verbal desire and has been confirmed to
increase the probability for the request to be carried out. For example, touching a patient while
saying how important it is to take a particular medicine can make the patient more likely to comply.

Touching Spirit Bear Summary
This is a summary of the book "Touching Spirit Bear" By: Ben Mikaelsen. It's a fictional book that
takes place in Minneapolis Cole is a fifteen–year–old juvenile from Minneapolis. His father is a
raging alcoholic and beats Cole constantly while his mother does nothing to stop them. Cole's
been to many therapists and many detention centers. Cole wants to get revenge on a boy named
Peter who heard about him breaking into a hardware store by beating him very badly. He could
have been sentenced with a long jail sentence and a trial as an adult in court. He doesn't want to go
(obviously) to a jail so he seeks a different alternative. His patrol officer (I don't remember his name)
suggests a Native American method that's called "circle justice".

Character's Journey In 'Touching Bottom'
In the story Touching Bottom, we learn of the relationship between the proverb "experience is the
best teacher," and the main character's journey in the story. In this writing I aim to draw from some
parallels in my own life that speak to that proverb.
I started my business in the year, 2005 December. Early on that year, I was a truck driver working
for a small trucking company. I had worked for them for about a year, I did most of my shifts
alongside Dan, who was also a truck driver, and a fairly extroverted individual. He had managed to
be friend me, he would often talk about starting his own trucking company, and ask me my thoughts
on the matter. He would say " Isaac don't you want a better life for yourself, you should think about

We were so busy we could not keep up with work that was coming our way, customers would
never ask "how much", they would only be concerned with when you could do the job. I decided
I wanted to expand, despite Dan advising otherwise. He said "don't buy anymore equipment
unless you have your bobcat paid off". At that time, money seemed for the most part to be
growing on trees. I had never seen so much money in my life, and I could not believe people
actually paid me to play around in the dirt. Not only did I buy a second bobcat, but I purchased a
dump truck, which would make me essentially self sufficient, requiring no more help from Dan. I
went on to buy a few more pieces of equipment, and hiring four employees. On the surface, it
appeared I was doing very well, but a closer look would reveal I was drowning in payments. If for
any reason the work stopped coming, it would not take long for me to go under. I was so busy, I
was forgetting to do important things like, collect money, and invoicing. At tax time, it became
apparent I was actually loosing money money. It would pass through my hands, like it would a
middle man. to make matters worse, the mortgage debacle, south of the border in 2008, caused a
recession in Canada. Essentially putting an end to three quarters of my contracts instantly. I was
stuck with twelve thousand a month, in equipment payments. Bankruptcy was looming in the
periphery, luckily, I managed to sell off majority of the equipment. I remained with a few pieces I
could afford, I laid off all the employees, and was back to a one man

How Does Touch Communicate Specific Emotions?
It is believed that touch can communicate a wide range of specific emotions. Touch has been ignored
by researchers in the past, and has not been focused on until recently. A person describes an

One way I can incorporate touch in my daily practice, which is something I always perform at the

Touching Spirit Bear Analysis
Have you ever thought about how everything that goes around comes around ending up like a
circle? Circles are always connected and so is everything around us. In the novel Touching Spirit
Bear by Ben Mikealson, Cole is sent to an isolated island to reflect on his actions. At the island, he
gets mauled by the spirit bear and almost dies. This lets him think about what he has done and
allows him to change. The motif of circles that Cole encounters, changes him and influences him
for the better. First, the motif, circle, helps Cole develop when Garvey teaches him and tries to
have Cole join Circle Justice. Garvey tells Cole that "everybody is part of the healing" (12). He
said this to Cole to show him that everybody in the circle is working together and connecting to
try and help him. Garvey also told Cole that "you can help make things right again" (10). Garvey
tells Cole that Circle Justice is more than just getting out of jail, it is helping others to redeem
yourself. In other words by doing this, you help others while helping yourself. Circle Justice deals
with circles in many ways to show that everything is connected....show more content...
"You live, die, and rot, then something else lives, dies, and rots" (83) the circle keeps on going.
Cole realizes that he isn't more important than anyone else in the world. "Besides him a tree has
died. Already, ants and bugs were crawled among the cracked bark and splintered wood. For them
life went on. With time the tree will rot and become dirt. Then a new seed would fall and grow, and
another tree would push upward. Years later, that tree would fall back to the earth and begin the
cycle all over again" (83). Cole never noticed what went on around him but now that he did, it helped
him realize that everything and everyone must die to continue the

An Analysis Of Touching The Earth By Bell Hooks
"When we love the Earth, we are able to love ourselves more fully" (Hooks 968). This is the first
sentence that Bell Hooks uses in the reading of "Touching the Earth," that essentially summarizes the
article. The obvious language being that the Earth can bring unity between others and the Earth
brings a sense of comfort when connected with itself. The article "Touching the Earth" effectively
portrays the necessity of staying in touch with the Earth by providing strong quotations from
experienced people, incorporating pathos in a highly desirable subject, and using the evidence of
history to display her argument.
Hooks integrates multiple citations from other credible sources into her writing to provide evidence
and support to her own...show more content...
The incorporation of pathos in an argument can form a strong structured reading or a make the
reader feel emotionally taken advantage of. In Hooks argument she uses pathos effectively, without
exploiting readers of her article. She states, "estrangement from nature and engagement in mind/body
splits made it all the more possible for black people to internalize white–supremacist assumptions
about black identity" (973). Hooks uses this sentence to appeal to those who have experienced a
loss of identity to feel for the blacks. Also, the citation brings a desirable topic up of unity within
different race and cultures, which adds more reason for the reader to be persuaded to her side of the
argument: the emotional pull of how blacks were treated even away from their normal ways of living.
Within the article, the use of movement from one urbanization to another creates the historical
evidence showing that connections to the Earth are a necessity. One example of this includes the
"great migration", which was a migration of black people trying to escape from racism in the
agrarian south to the industrialized north (Hooks 971). Hooks explains that their new way of life
in the North still consisted of racism. Their bodies became slaves to work instead of tending to the
nature of their bodies, and they began to feel mentally and physically drained (Hooks 972). The
blacks ended up moving back to the south to try and reconnect with the Earth and gain their old way
of life back to

Touching Spirit Bear
Cole Matthews is not an uncommon young man that one would find in today's society. Cole has
not had a life I would call "easy" or "fair." He had parents that as Cole stated, "all my parents do is
drink." (p27) His father beat him profusely. This is evidenced in the Circle Justice meetings when
Cole said, "Or you'll what?" "Beat me?" ....." "You're still lying!" he shouted. "You're usually too
drunk to know your own name!" Cole knew these words guaranteed him a terrible beating next time
he was alone...(p47–48) Cole didn't feel he had any other emotions other than anger and fear. Many
of us have had the same feelings as Cole, "He didn't trust anyone who wasn't afraid of him." (p4)
This is an...show more content...
I am assuming that these two men, Garvey and Edwin, had been much like Cole and they too
learned how to control their anger and make their choices in life better.
There are many lessons to learn in life. I believe that we are dealt with some trials, some larger
than others. We make choices based on our reactions to these certain circumstances some of us
regret our choices or decisions and learn from them to do better the next time. I believe that is what
life is about. What choices we make and the outcome of the choices and what we can do to make it
better is our decision.
Upon completing the novel I realized I will be frustrated with my students at times and will need to
remember that there is always a reason for a behavior. My reaction to the behavior will be a very
important piece in the relationship I build with my student.
Reply to Jessica Dandini
I had the same feelings when I read the back of the book. I truly enjoyed the novel. The
description and detail of the bear mauling was intense. This story shows that children are a product
of their environment. Cole's parents were alcoholics and his mother wouldn't / couldn't defend him
against the constant beatings from his father. I felt so sorry for Cole but at the same time got so
angry with his behavior. I believe everyone can change regardless of what environment they were
brought up in and Cole proved that in the story. It is weird how the circle of

Nonverbal Communication Essay
Touch is a type of nonverbal communication, nonverbal communication is ways people
communicate in addition to words. The word haptic is used to describe the study of touching. In
this week's exercises it asks to describe the rules that govern touching in four different
relationships as if a person from a different culture was visiting our culture. The way a person uses
touch as an addition to communicating has to be culturally appropriate, because if not it can get
people into trouble for misusing it. Gender influences the way the touch rules apply for example
say if a grown man outside of a 13 year old girl's family was talking with her, he most likely won't
use touch as a way to convey his message to her. There are factors discussed in...show more content...
It also helps let a child trust the adult more. Even those that aren't family but still apart of the child
life for example a teacher, that would be acceptable. Gender plays a big part in this relationship
also when it comes to gender it is more likely that a woman would use more touch when speaking to
younger audiences than men. WIth these situations it really is important where the person touched
then and what their intent of it was for example did the touch last a long time, and how the person
is reacting about it. The third relationship is between two friends, depending on how close the
friendship is, usually friends use touch more often than other relationships. Usually people that are
friends are comfortable with each other which makes things not weird to use touch. Touch isn't
typically used with pressure it is a friendly touch, nothing more than just friendly touches. With
either gender friends tend to use touch regardless of male of female but female I would say use it a
little bit more. The fourth relationship is between a boss and an employee, with this kind of a
relationship the way you communicate should be more on a professional level. In this relationship it
isn't likely for people to use touch while communicating. Touch is a more personal way to add to
communication that typically

Therapeutic Touch In Nursing
Therapeutic Touch I have chosen to explore the concept analysis of therapeutic touch for stress
reduction with adults in my current medical–surgical environment in the hospital. I my opinion,
nurses use touch or nonverbal communication on a daily basis, even without being aware of it.
When we touch a patient's hand to comfort them, we are using Therapeutic Touch (TT). The
definition of TT has been described as "a technique often included in alternative medicine in which
the practitioner passes his or her hands over the body of the person being treated and that is held to
induce relaxation, reduce pain, and promote healing" (Merriam–Webster, 2015) . This definition
correlates with Albert Einstein's theory in the field of physics "that energy

  • 1. Therapeutic Modalities Using therapeutic modalities is not a new thing in the world. There is evidence it has been being used since ancient Greek and Roman times. A therapeutic modality is using a device that helps treat a patient. Examples of commonly used modalities are heat, cold, massage, or ultrasound. Although therapeutic modalities are the commonly accepted term for this things, some people do believe that I would be more accurately described with the name physical agents. Physical agents mean doing a treatment that results in a change to the patient's body. No matter what you call it, it is important to understand that you must have formal preparation to use it. Doing so will make sure you are using the forms as safely as possible and not causing harm. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Touch Observation When I began sitting on the front porch of Stout I was really hoping to see the sunset, however, I quickly realized this wasn't going to happen for two reasons. For one, I was facing the wrong way and secondly I started observing a few minutes too soon. I was expecting to hear a quite a few animals and birds outside but nothing much other than that. I also was excited to see whether or not I would be able to taste anything during my observations. I expected to see many students walking back and forth along the walkways and to see some cars driving by. As for touch, I wasn't really sure how I was going to go about experiencing a touch, and I figured I would settle for touching whatever object I was sitting on. Also because it had just rained Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. FEAR OF INDEPENDENCE Thomas Hardy, a famous novelist once said, "Fear is the mother of foresight". This quotation may be interpreted in many different ways, one being that by experiencing fear, an individual begins to develop an ability to predict possible outcomes of their decisions. In Kari Strutt's short story "Touching Bottom", the protagonist decides to overcome her fear of murky waters, an action that results in her ability to foresee her future as being very independent. The main character's fear affects her decision making process for much of her early life; if not for the interplay between the protagonist's distressing emotions and inability to see her life as an independent woman, her choices may seem foolish and insignificant. The unnamed woman's act of overcoming her fear by literally "Touching bottom" results in her movement away from her husband to enjoy a life on her own. The protagonist is a very dependent individual due to critical moments in her childhood where she relies on her father for guidance and strays away from her fears, specifically her fear of murky waters. The main character in the story relies on her father for all of her childhood; he acts as a safety blanket to her and uses a yellow towel to physically comfort her: "He wrapped me in a clean yellow towel, and the fear, what was left of it, evaporated" (124). When the girl turns seven, she attends Camp Kinaird with many other young girls where they all learned how to swim. This camp was where Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. In "Touching the Earth" written by Bell Hooks, she explains her culture and is not only writing to black Americans, but to every ethnicity and future generations. She talks about stories from her past and the importance of nature to her and her family. Hooks wants to convince the readers to cherish and take care of the Earth, to grow produce and gain respect for nature. This essay was successful at explaining the beauty and importance of the Earth by the use of pathos, the history of slaves, and the obtaining of land. The use of pathos is what makes this essay influential because Hooks emotionally persuades her audience to feel similar about nature as she does, without much logical evidence. To attach her audience to the essay, Hooks uses various experts and quotes in hope to pull the reader in. "I wish to live because life has within it that which is good, that which is beautiful, and that which is love (Hansberry, qtd: in Hooks 968)." This expert supports Hooks emotional appeal of wanting the reader to look at nature positively so they can appreciate it and can see life as she does: marvelous. Pathos was effective in Hooks essay because her audience will more likely comply with her, and not take nature for granted. She wants people to not be discouraged with what happens in daily life, but be happy with nature's beauty around them, and see nature as she does; wonderful and beneficial to the human race. Hooks uses the history of slavery to persuade her readers that nature is consistently there when people are not. Using the history of slaves connects her audience because a majority of readers will have knowledge of slavery and can understand how awful life was for slaves when freed. When the blacks first came to America they were brought in as slaves to grow crops, so they gained knowledge and respect for the land. Hooks explains that farming became their passion because when the slaves were freed, they did not know how to read or write; farming was all they knew. A poem written by Waring Cuney– "She does not know her beauty, she thinks her brown body has no glory. If she could dance naked, under the palm trees and see her image in the river she would know. • 8. The Possibility Of Touching To Patients It is key for nurses to know how to use touch and in some cases patients will respond better to touch than trying to talk to them. Touching must be done appropriately, and it is up to the nurses to assess whether the patient would feel comfortable with them doing so. Not everyone would feel at ease with closeness and may feel their personal space imposed (Segal, 2016). Touch has also been found to be a very powerful tool when making a verbal desire and has been confirmed to increase the probability for the request to be carried out. For example, touching a patient while saying how important it is to take a particular medicine can make the patient more likely to comply. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. Character's Journey In 'Touching Bottom' In the story Touching Bottom, we learn of the relationship between the proverb "experience is the best teacher," and the main character's journey in the story. In this writing I aim to draw from some parallels in my own life that speak to that proverb. I started my business in the year, 2005 December. Early on that year, I was a truck driver working for a small trucking company. I had worked for them for about a year, I did most of my shifts alongside Dan, who was also a truck driver, and a fairly extroverted individual. He had managed to be friend me, he would often talk about starting his own trucking company, and ask me my thoughts on the matter. He would say " Isaac don't you want a better life for yourself, you should think about starting...show more content... I decided I wanted to expand, despite Dan advising otherwise. He said "don't buy anymore equipment unless you have your bobcat paid off". At that time, money seemed for the most part to be growing on trees. I had never seen so much money in my life, and I could not believe people actually paid me to play around in the dirt. Not only did I buy a second bobcat, but I purchased a dump truck, which would make me essentially self sufficient, requiring no more help from Dan. I went on to buy a few more pieces of equipment, and hiring four employees. On the surface, it appeared I was doing very well, but a closer look would reveal I was drowning in payments. If for any reason the work stopped coming, it would not take long for me to go under. I was so busy, I was forgetting to do important things like, collect money, and invoicing. At tax time, it became apparent I was actually loosing money money. It would pass through my hands, like it would a middle man. to make matters worse, the mortgage debacle, south of the border in 2008, caused a recession in Canada. Essentially putting an end to three quarters of my contracts instantly. I was stuck with twelve thousand a month, in equipment payments. Bankruptcy was looming in the periphery, luckily, I managed to sell off majority of the equipment. • 17. Touching Spirit Bear Analysis Have you ever thought about how everything that goes around comes around ending up like a circle? Circles are always connected and so is everything around us. In the novel Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikealson, Cole is sent to an isolated island to reflect on his actions. At the island, he gets mauled by the spirit bear and almost dies. This lets him think about what he has done and allows him to change. The motif of circles that Cole encounters, changes him and influences him for the better. First, the motif, circle, helps Cole develop when Garvey teaches him and tries to have Cole join Circle Justice. Garvey tells Cole that "everybody is part of the healing" (12). He said this to Cole to show him that everybody in the circle is working together and connecting to try and help him. Garvey also told Cole that "you can help make things right again" (10). Garvey tells Cole that Circle Justice is more than just getting out of jail, it is helping others to redeem yourself. In other words by doing this, you help others while helping yourself. Then a new seed would fall and grow, and another tree would push upward. Years later, that tree would fall back to the earth and begin the cycle all over again" (83). • 18. An Analysis Of Touching The Earth By Bell Hooks "When we love the Earth, we are able to love ourselves more fully" (Hooks 968). This is the first sentence that Bell Hooks uses in the reading of "Touching the Earth," that essentially summarizes the article. The obvious language being that the Earth can bring unity between others and the Earth brings a sense of comfort when connected with itself. The article "Touching the Earth" effectively portrays the necessity of staying in touch with the Earth by providing strong quotations from experienced people, incorporating pathos in a highly desirable subject, and using the evidence of history to display her argument. Hooks integrates multiple citations from other credible sources into her writing to provide evidence and support to her own...show more content... The incorporation of pathos in an argument can form a strong structured reading or a make the reader feel emotionally taken advantage of. In Hooks argument she uses pathos effectively, without exploiting readers of her article. She states, "estrangement from nature and engagement in mind/body splits made it all the more possible for black people to internalize white–supremacist assumptions about black identity" (973). Hooks uses this sentence to appeal to those who have experienced a loss of identity to feel for the blacks. Also, the citation brings a desirable topic up of unity within different race and cultures, which adds more reason for the reader to be persuaded to her side of the argument: the emotional pull of how blacks were treated even away from their normal ways of living. Within the article, the use of movement from one urbanization to another creates the historical evidence showing that connections to the Earth are a necessity. One example of this includes the "great migration", which was a migration of black people trying to escape from racism in the agrarian south to the industrialized north (Hooks 971). Hooks explains that their new way of life in the North still consisted of racism. Their bodies became slaves to work instead of tending to the nature of their bodies, and they began to feel mentally and physically drained (Hooks 972). The blacks ended up moving back to the south to try and reconnect with the Earth and gain their old way of life back to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Touching Spirit Bear Essay Windy Morgan Touching Spirit Bear Cole Matthews is not an uncommon young man that one would find in today's society. Cole has not had a life I would call "easy" or "fair." He had parents that as Cole stated, "all my parents do is drink." (p27) His father beat him profusely. This is evidenced in the Circle Justice meetings when Cole said, "Or you'll what?" "Beat me?" ....." "You're still lying!" he shouted. "You're usually too drunk to know your own name!" Cole knew these words guaranteed him a terrible beating next time he was alone...(p47–48) Cole didn't feel he had any other emotions other than anger and fear. Many of us have had the same feelings as Cole, "He didn't trust anyone who wasn't afraid of him." (p4) This is an...show more content... I am assuming that these two men, Garvey and Edwin, had been much like Cole and they too learned how to control their anger and make their choices in life better. There are many lessons to learn in life. I believe that we are dealt with some trials, some larger than others. We make choices based on our reactions to these certain circumstances some of us regret our choices or decisions and learn from them to do better the next time. I believe that is what life is about. What choices we make and the outcome of the choices and what we can do to make it better is our decision. Upon completing the novel I realized I will be frustrated with my students at times and will need to remember that there is always a reason for a behavior. My reaction to the behavior will be a very important piece in the relationship I build with my student. Reply to Jessica Dandini I had the same feelings when I read the back of the book. I truly enjoyed the novel. The description and detail of the bear mauling was intense. This story shows that children are a product of their environment. Cole's parents were alcoholics and his mother wouldn't / couldn't defend him against the constant beatings from his father. I felt so sorry for Cole but at the same time got so angry with his behavior. I believe everyone can change regardless of what environment they were brought up in and Cole proved that in the story. It is weird how the circle of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Nonverbal Communication Essay Touch is a type of nonverbal communication, nonverbal communication is ways people communicate in addition to words. The word haptic is used to describe the study of touching. In this week's exercises it asks to describe the rules that govern touching in four different relationships as if a person from a different culture was visiting our culture. The way a person uses touch as an addition to communicating has to be culturally appropriate, because if not it can get people into trouble for misusing it. Gender influences the way the touch rules apply for example say if a grown man outside of a 13 year old girl's family was talking with her, he most likely won't use touch as a way to convey his message to her. There are factors discussed in...show more content... It also helps let a child trust the adult more. Even those that aren't family but still apart of the child life for example a teacher, that would be acceptable. Gender plays a big part in this relationship also when it comes to gender it is more likely that a woman would use more touch when speaking to younger audiences than men. WIth these situations it really is important where the person touched then and what their intent of it was for example did the touch last a long time, and how the person is reacting about it. The third relationship is between two friends, depending on how close the friendship is, usually friends use touch more often than other relationships. Usually people that are friends are comfortable with each other which makes things not weird to use touch. Touch isn't typically used with pressure it is a friendly touch, nothing more than just friendly touches. With either gender friends tend to use touch regardless of male of female but female I would say use it a little bit more. The fourth relationship is between a boss and an employee, with this kind of a relationship the way you communicate should be more on a professional level. In this relationship it isn't likely for people to use touch while communicating. Touch is a more personal way to add to communication that typically Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Therapeutic Touch In Nursing Therapeutic Touch I have chosen to explore the concept analysis of therapeutic touch for stress reduction with adults in my current medical–surgical environment in the hospital. I my opinion, nurses use touch or nonverbal communication on a daily basis, even without being aware of it. When we touch a patient's hand to comfort them, we are using Therapeutic Touch (TT). The definition of TT has been described as "a technique often included in alternative medicine in which the practitioner passes his or her hands over the body of the person being treated and that is held to induce relaxation, reduce pain, and promote healing" (Merriam–Webster, 2015) .
