These are just some recent examples. People should look at the web site given full collection of old events with their presentations programme of future events See also the technical reports on the web site Most workshops produce a report Trying to make that “All workshops produce a report” Encouraging more workshops to be research oriented Looking ahead, trying to suggest good road maps for research – clearly identified issues – a recognised competing strategies – evaluation criteria, what constitutes success – implications for technology developers Participation in workshops is often a good way to make initial contact with NeSC and the UK e-Science programme if you are considering becoming a research visitor or a collaborator
Everyone is invited to suggest topics and events that can be taken up through eSI’s mission For research workshops we normally cover the costs of overseas speakers and we strongly encourage a wide international coverage The visitors programme is also open to anyone who will contribute to the eSI mission and gain from the visit themselves More detailed slides follow.
The web site is a valuable source of information, especially for the presentations at eSI events.
We can draw this better, but we need to (a) talk a bit about the fact we've been going with there support since 2001 & (b) there is a multi-faceted mutually supporting number of strengths in UK & in Scotland - Thanks in no small part to them - University support (founding schools + EPCC), ScotGrid, eDIKT, SBRN, ScotGrid2, eDIKT2, SINAPSE, ... SAY this early!
Shows the National (computing) Grid Service - free at point of use - backbone connecting UK facilities and gateway to international facilities - standards driven - Scotland has 2 partners - Glasgow & Edinburgh Universities
Illustrating the way the NGS links the facilities to make them all reachable from any researcher’s desk. Data services such as EDINA are just being added.
I have a feeling this may not be quite the latest picture? e-Science Centres - led by NeSC - e-Science Directors' Forum chaired by Malcolm Atkinson as UK e-Science Envoy
OMII-UK is funded by EPSRC through the UK e-Science Core programme. It is a collaboration between the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, the OGSA-DAI project at the National e-Science Centre and EPCC, and the myGrid project at the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester.
The following partners contribute to the core activities of the Centre and make up the DCC Consortium: The University of Edinburgh, including: Database Research Group within the School of Informatics AHRC Research Centre for Studies in Intellectual Property and Technology Law EDINA (a JISC-funded national data centre) National e-Science Centre (at the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow) Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII) at the University of Glasgow UKOLN, a centre of expertise in digital information management, based at the University of Bath Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC), which operate the Rutherford and Daresbury Laboratories
