The Structure of a Good Email
A good email consists of the following:
*Captivating and compelling subject line. Why?
Because people have their index finger on the delete
key when checking their emails. You need a subject
line that gets them to open your email.
*Impactful and unique­to­you email body. Be yourself…write like you talk. Don’t try to impress
with big words or jargon. Write like you are writing to Homer Simpson
*Simple and clear “call­to­action”. Tell the prospect exactly what you want them to do.
Whether it be to click the join link, watch a video or buy your product. If you leave this part out,
there’s a good chance that they won’t do what you want them to do.
How to Write a Compelling Subject Line
There are 4 basic types of subject lines:
Emotion based…such as anger, curiosity, surprise or humor…example: “Someone just asked
me a silly question…”
Content indicator…tells the prospect what’s in the email…example: “Live at 9 pm: How to write
compelling emails…”
Relevant…such as current events or time­of­day…example: “Are you still up?”(sent at
midnight)
Lists…people love a “top 10 or a top 5″…example: “10 Ways the Wealthy Think Differently
From Average People”…

2. What About the Body of the Message?
The job of the message body is not to present, convince or explain…it’s to make one simple
action attractive. What should your body consist of?
*Stories – stories grab people’s attention at an emotional level. Try to tell stories every chance
you can. Even if you are “pitching”, package it in a story.
*A call to action – tells prospect exactly what you want them to do.
*Use bullet points or attention­getters such as pictures, or screenshots showing social proof.
*Use bold type and/or highlighting but not so much that it distracts from the message.
Make your email narrow approximately 50 to 60 characters per line. Write in blocks of sentences
of 1­10 words and paragraphs should be only 1­2 lines. Use lots of white space The idea is to
make it pleasing to the eye and easy to read.
It’s okay to use autoresponders as a foundation of communication but send a broadcast email to
your list every day for that personal touch.
