Role
How long have you been a Salesforce user?
Certifications that we hold
started in 2013 by Billy Martin - CFL organization to increase user adoption through education, passed the baton to me
Audience (new users to users with years of experience with Salesforce)
80% of those report that they have taken the exam have passed on the first attempt! Cert club is lurker friendly, so there may be more that we don’t know about.
Almost everyone who has participated in a leg of the cert club has returned for a second leg, so many of our Cert Clubbers hold multiple certifications
Virtual, using Chatter and GTM to record for those who can’t make the prescribed time
Each certification is a leg and we’ve completed 4 to date. Currently studying for the Service Cloud Consultant exam
Take the official Salesforce study guide and break the objectives down into consumable chunks.
Each week, we review study topics in advance and I provide reference material to help learn the concepts (leveraging Salesforce H&T as much as we can)
Then when complete Testing Your Knowledge Questions related to the topics for each week. Leverage poll functionality for this, which keeps it nice and anonymous
For those who can’t attend, they completed the TYK questions and then listen to the recording.
Note, answers are not posted for the TYK questions to allow others to complete the questions subsequent to our session. You have to review the recording for that!
Title: Study Group Name – How did it get started?
I am part of the online Salesforce Success Community called the Salesforce Certification Study Group. It was established last Fall 2013 and is led by Deepa Patel who is one of the MVPs.
Who is our Audience? – Our audience are End User, Admins, or Developers that have at least 6 months – 1 year of experience
Our study group meets Virtually using the ReadyTalk platform which is integrated into our Salesforce instance. ReadyTalk allows us to record the session to share with the attendees after class.
The Study Group runs for 14 weeks with a set curriculum and the members receive activity assignments each week. There is 1 facilitator that helps lead the session.
Collaboration is key! The facilitator just keeps things on track, while the members share their assignments and collaborate with the other members.
We currently offer Admin, Advanced Admin, Both Sales Cloud and Service Cloud Certifications and these are now offered internationally!
There is a Community Group – Salesforce Certification Study Group that each member is a part of.
We currently have 23 Certified members and just finished up another set of Study Groups so we have an additional 21 members that plan to take their exam shartly.
Let’s talk a minute about the considerations for an in Person / Live Study Groups compared to Virtual Study Groups.
1) The in person study group – you need to find a location that is consistent, you also have to consider things like weather, or sick children when people cant attend. But in person groups are great for networking and really getting to know each other.
2) In Virtual Study groups, everyone logs on from the comfort of home, but you can still have distractions from barking dogs, or leaf blowers. It’s also more challenging to get to know your teammates, but it is convenient and is productive.
So either way can work. I have worked with both and both have their pros and cons.
Tips:
Set a Goal and be committed and once you have set your Certification Goal be sure to
Set a Date for your exam. A Goal without a Deadline is only a dream!
And then on the Day of the exam – stand big. Amy Cuddy gives a TED talk titled “Your body language shapes who you are”. In her talk she references that the taller you stand, the greater your reach or space that you take, the more confidence and power you will have. So stand big, spread those arms, and be filled with power to conquer this test!
Then once you enter the testing room, be sure to Breath. In answering the questions, Read first and write or draw out what they are asking. Eliminate the answers that are incorrect, and then mark questions for review.
Sit back and bask in your hard work!
