This document summarizes an online webinar about teaching math online featuring four online math teachers. 9. Stacy Alley is employed with the Las Cruces Public Schools. She has been a Math teacher at Las Cruces High School for 11 years and an online instructor and course developer with IDEAL-NM for 2 years. Currently she is piloting an online Honors Geometry class to meet the needs of gifted middle school students for the LCPS district.

16. Naomi Schmidt teaches undergraduate statistics at NMSU. She has taught in a traditional setting for 9 years and online for 5 years. As part of her own learning process for online teaching, she earned a graduate Certificate of Online Teaching from NMSU in 2007. She is especially interested in simple techniques for collaborative learning in math courses such as synchronous chat. When she’s not teaching or grading (!), she’s usually working in the yard or walking the dog.

18. Structure of my course in Blackboard Learners review the course material and complete the first tier of problems, Sample Problems. Detailed solutions are provided. 2) Learners complete the second tier of problems, Pair Practice Problems, and discuss approaches and solutions in chat sessions. Chat transcript is submitted as an assignment. 3) Learners complete the third tier of problems, the Homework Problems,and submit as an assignment.
