 Monthly Treasurer Report.
 Review reports; current bank balance = $17,198.02
 Per Mrs Harris: The server can only hold 32 cameras and we are at capacity. So, take cameras off the table
at this point. Remove from PTO Annual Budget Goals. Already done
 As of right now, we still have not broken even in order to pay into the ISA account. Expenses = $3055.30
Concessions= $2985.55.
Mrs. Harris:
REPORT CARDS were given to students on Monday, Jan. 12th. If your child did not receive his/her Report Card,
please check if they owe funds in the cafeteria.
FOCUS & GOALS for 2015:
 Creating a Culture of Respect:
Our first HAWKS Expectation is "Hawks have Respect" and students were reminded after break that their
words and actions make an impact. This semester, we will continue to hold students accountable and
require that all students contribute to a safe learning environment at ROMS. Please expect a phone call
from your child's teacher if/when your child says or acts in a disrespectful manner towards a teacher, as
well as consequences from an administrator. We appreciate your support in helping our 1260 students
make right choices.
 Learning is in the Struggle:
In Semester 2 of any school year, the standards generally become more complex and build on ideas from
the first semester. Your child will be challenged to work hard and persevere when they might not "get it"
on the first attempt. That's ok! Learning is the process of understanding and doing something you didn't
originally know how to do. We will be encouraging students to complete all their assignments because
practice will lead to mastery. Encourage your child to work hard and not give up...we will, too.
 On the 15th of January Rossview Middle Basketball is playing our rival Richview (AKA BATTLE OF
THE BLVD), having a spaghetti dinner, and representing our 8th graders (AKA 8TH GRADE NIGHT). In
preparation of the game we are having a week of spirit! Get excited by joining in on the fun! The Beta Club
will provide teachers that come to the game a FREE spaghetti dinner!
Game time is 4:30-6:30, (4:45 – JV girls, 5:30 – V girls, 8th grade recognition, 6:30 – V boys) cost for
spaghetti Dinner is $5, funds to benefit Jr Beta Club!
SPIRIT WEEK:

TUESDAY 13TH- Hawaiian Day (no coconuts)
WEDNESDAY 14TH- Twin Day ( pick a twin or triplet or more to dress alike)
THURSDAY 15TH- Spirit Wear( All students wearing spirit wear to the game will get in for 1/2 price, $2)

FRIDAY 16TH- Superhero Day ( dress up as your favorite superhero, remember dress code applies)
 Rossview Middle School Golf Club sponsored through TMSGA. Parent volunteers are Jen & Cary Stanton,
parents of 8th grader. BOYS AND GIRLS THAT KNOW HOW TO PLAY, HAVE GOLF CLUBS, AND
ARE INTERESTED TO TRY OUT FOR THE ROSSVIEW TEAM PLEASE GO TO THE FRONT
OFFICE AND SIGN UP BY Wednesday, JANUARY 21, 2015.
THE INTEREST SHEET IS LOCATED IN THE FRONT OFFICE.
PARENT INTEREST MEETING WILL BE HELD ON
FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2015, 6PM, IN THE CAFETERIA.
THE GOLF SEASON BEGINS MARCH 2ND AND PRACTICE WILL START IN FEBRUARY!
 FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH: every day, students will receive a question via
announcements pertaining to this topic. They will fill out a ticket with their name on it and turn into the
front office. Tickets will be placed in a bin for a daily raffle. PTO/Deon has been asked to provide movie
theater tickets for daily drawing via donations. 19 tickets total for each school day of the month. Any other
suggestions from board members? 3 winners per day. Suggested doughnuts instead of movie tickets. We
would need to obtain 57 movie tickets and that may be cost prohibitive to theaters for donations.
 The newscast for announcements begins on Tuesday, January 20th.
Next PTO meeting: Tuesday, February 10th at 1:00pm
Jennifer Johnson:
 What days are scheduled for City Saver CMCSS wide fundraiser? January 16th through February 13th
From Cindi Pope: You will have to ask Jennifer if she needs help this Friday. She may just have teachers
pick up at the teachers meeting. I will be separating them tomorrow- the only thing that needs to be done is
get them to the teachers. Next date would be Friday, January 30th at 8:00- they would not be counting
money -only delivering back to classrooms. 2 volunteers will be great-no more than 2 or they will be
bored. Then on Feb 6 and Feb 13th and possibly on the 20th, if sale is extended. Deon will post on
Family/School Connection for volunteers.
New Business: Deon
 Some Parents would like clarification on the new rules/changes that pertain to the 8th graders such as,
planners, bathroom privileges and lunch time changes? They are the same rules as always, but they are
being enforced now. Since a lot of the eighth grade teachers are new this year, they weren’t aware of the
need to enforce the rules. The goal is to have only a third of the students in the hallway at a time.
 Deon spoke to Richard last week and he hasn’t been able to meet up with Norm yet. Once he does, he says
he will contact me.
 Deon looked into Coca Cola to ask for recycling bins for free or minimal amount. Grant opens up in
January and she will receive notification when the grant opens up for 2015. Two categories for the grant
include non-profit organizations (PTO) and schools (Rossview Middle).
 Follow up from Chris Hambrick-Computer Lab fundraising campaign. Copy of email forwarded to me
from Chris to David Holman-CMCSS -IT
My name is Chris Hambrick, and I am one of the Computer Lit teachers at Rossview Middle. I am needing
to cover all my bases as we are getting ready to begin a large, ongoing, and multifaceted fundraising
campaign to raise money to buy new computers for one of our aging stationary labs. When I took this job I
was not aware that the lab I would be working in would not be receiving any updated/new computers
possibly ever. I found out that as a system only one lab per middle school is supported with new computers
on a regular cycle. My lab is the old CTE Lab and therefore it will not be getting any new computers. I
want to make sure that my understanding of this situation is correct before continuing with our fundraising
efforts.
So, number one, am I correct in my understanding? Number two, are there any future plans to change this
policy and if so when? Lastly, if my understanding is correct and there are no future plans to change this
policy, do you have any recommendations as we move forward? I need a solution for the long haul as it
would be difficult to have to revisit this issue possibly every six years. My proposal for new computers is
for approximately $26,000 and we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. I just want to make sure we are
justified in our future efforts to reach our goal hopefully by the end of the next school year as my existing
computers are really struggling to meet the needed demands on them. Thank you for your time and
attention to this matter.
Deon spoke to David Holman and he explained that our computer lab is on the rotation list for
new/upgraded equipment. The company that CMCSS used in the past (CTE) is being rotated out and the
school system is now on a leasing program. This ensures a budget to pay the lease on an annual basis along
with integrating new systems. Chris Hambrick has the response from Mr Holman via email and If I recall
correctly our school is on the list for 2016. Please keep in mind if we do a fundraiser specifically for
computers, we will need to ensure the students that raise the funds will be able to benefit from their
contribution. Ex. 6th graders contributing for 3 years, but equipment isn’t purchased until 4 years from now
or 8th graders contributing to the computer fundraiser and then reaping the benefit of their contributions.
Mrs Harris, Deon doesn’t recall specifically the details of his email response. Would you mind sharing?
 Review of Officers for 2015-16 PTO board – Elaine Peterson/Secretary, Lori Rippy/Treasurer, Lisa
Zirkle/Clubs and Facebook, Tina Young and Akiko Rands/Hospitality. Is this correct? Yes
 Positions Needed: PTO President/ Parent Ambassador, PTO Vice President/Volunteer Coordinator,
Membership Coordinator, Hospitality Co Chair, Fundraiser/Spirit Wear Coordinator, Box Tops
Coordinator. Is this correct? Yes
Names for Mrs Harris to contact: Star Easter, Leslie Powell, Susan Molsbeuger, Melanie Westerman,
Carrie Reummler, Whittney Snell, Jamie Cherry, Patti Steinke, Suzette Pinnock, Pam Kuipers, Carmen
Soloman.
 MCR( My Coke Rewards) FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAM CHANGES
The new MCR for Schools is almost here! The first day of the new MCR for Schools program is
January 20th. We're so excited, we feel like it's the first day of school! Here's how the new program will
give your school even more value than ever before:
Points converted directly to dollars. If you have your eye on anything in the rewards catalog,
please claim it by January 19th. Starting on January 20th, all schools points will earn cash for your school
to buy what it needs most. From physical education and sports equipment, to technology, art and classroom
supplies there are plenty of possibilities! At the end of each quarter, your school will receive a payment*
through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) direct deposit. New ways to donate: Our new program will
make it easier to get involved and keep the cash flowing. MCR members will be able to add cash to their
point donation, or choose to just give cash to their school. Important note about your points: Your current
point balance is 25975. Remember to redeem them by January 19th if you have your eye on something in
our catalog. Deon will enter enough points today so that we will be able to “purchase” the TV for the office
prior to January 19th! If not, no big deal. After that date, any remaining points will be converted to cash
through our partners at Kula Causes, the world’s largest charitable giving platform. To ensure your school
receives its cash donations as quickly and efficiently as possible, Kula asks that you review/update your
school information and provide banking credentials, if these are not already on file. To learn more about
Kula, please visit www.kula.com.
If you no longer wish for your school to participate in MCR for Schools, please contact support@kula.com.
If you do not respond, we will consider that an election to participate in the new program and accept
donations made to your school.

our car riders in the morning? We decided to sell coupons for a dozen glazed doughnuts so that people can
pick up their doughnuts when convenient for them. Lori will work on a flyer/order form to distribute after
Spring Break. The band is not having a spring fundraiser, so we are free to have a school wide fundraiser
in March through the PTO! This will help us to have start-up money for next school year, after the LED
Marquee is paid in full, for spirit wear, hospitality, etc. for the Annual Budget Goals. We will make $4.25

So, take cameras off the table at this point. Remove from PTO Annual Budget Goals. Already done  As of right now, we still have not broken even in order to pay into the ISA account. Expenses = $3055.30 Concessions= $2985.55. Mrs. Harris: REPORT CARDS were given to students on Monday, Jan. 12th. If your child did not receive his/her Report Card, please check if they owe funds in the cafeteria. FOCUS & GOALS for 2015:  Creating a Culture of Respect: Our first HAWKS Expectation is "Hawks have Respect" and students were reminded after break that their words and actions make an impact. This semester, we will continue to hold students accountable and require that all students contribute to a safe learning environment at ROMS. Please expect a phone call from your child's teacher if/when your child says or acts in a disrespectful manner towards a teacher, as well as consequences from an administrator. We appreciate your support in helping our 1260 students make right choices.
  • 2.  Learning is in the Struggle: In Semester 2 of any school year, the standards generally become more complex and build on ideas from the first semester. Your child will be challenged to work hard and persevere when they might not "get it" on the first attempt. That's ok! Learning is the process of understanding and doing something you didn't originally know how to do. We will be encouraging students to complete all their assignments because practice will lead to mastery. Encourage your child to work hard and not give up...we will, too.  On the 15th of January Rossview Middle Basketball is playing our rival Richview (AKA BATTLE OF THE BLVD), having a spaghetti dinner, and representing our 8th graders (AKA 8TH GRADE NIGHT). In preparation of the game we are having a week of spirit! Get excited by joining in on the fun! The Beta Club will provide teachers that come to the game a FREE spaghetti dinner! Game time is 4:30-6:30, (4:45 – JV girls, 5:30 – V girls, 8th grade recognition, 6:30 – V boys) cost for spaghetti Dinner is $5, funds to benefit Jr Beta Club! SPIRIT WEEK: MONDAY 12TH-Sports day( wear your favorite sports team jersey) TUESDAY 13TH- Hawaiian Day (no coconuts) WEDNESDAY 14TH- Twin Day ( pick a twin or triplet or more to dress alike) THURSDAY 15TH- Spirit Wear( All students wearing spirit wear to the game will get in for 1/2 price, $2) Parents pay $4 FRIDAY 16TH- Superhero Day ( dress up as your favorite superhero, remember dress code applies)  Rossview Middle School Golf Club sponsored through TMSGA. Parent volunteers are Jen & Cary Stanton, parents of 8th grader. BOYS AND GIRLS THAT KNOW HOW TO PLAY, HAVE GOLF CLUBS, AND ARE INTERESTED TO TRY OUT FOR THE ROSSVIEW TEAM PLEASE GO TO THE FRONT OFFICE AND SIGN UP BY Wednesday, JANUARY 21, 2015. THE INTEREST SHEET IS LOCATED IN THE FRONT OFFICE. PARENT INTEREST MEETING WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2015, 6PM, IN THE CAFETERIA. THE GOLF SEASON BEGINS MARCH 2ND AND PRACTICE WILL START IN FEBRUARY!  FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH: every day, students will receive a question via announcements pertaining to this topic. They will fill out a ticket with their name on it and turn into the front office. Tickets will be placed in a bin for a daily raffle. PTO/Deon has been asked to provide movie theater tickets for daily drawing via donations. 19 tickets total for each school day of the month. Any other suggestions from board members? 3 winners per day. Suggested doughnuts instead of movie tickets. We would need to obtain 57 movie tickets and that may be cost prohibitive to theaters for donations.  The newscast for announcements begins on Tuesday, January 20th. Next PTO meeting: Tuesday, February 10th at 1:00pm Jennifer Johnson:  What days are scheduled for City Saver CMCSS wide fundraiser? January 16th through February 13th From Cindi Pope: You will have to ask Jennifer if she needs help this Friday. She may just have teachers pick up at the teachers meeting. I will be separating them tomorrow- the only thing that needs to be done is get them to the teachers. Next date would be Friday, January 30th at 8:00- they would not be counting money -only delivering back to classrooms. 2 volunteers will be great-no more than 2 or they will be bored. Then on Feb 6 and Feb 13th and possibly on the 20th, if sale is extended. Deon will post on Family/School Connection for volunteers. New Business: Deon  Some Parents would like clarification on the new rules/changes that pertain to the 8th graders such as, planners, bathroom privileges and lunch time changes? They are the same rules as always, but they are being enforced now. Since a lot of the eighth grade teachers are new this year, they weren’t aware of the need to enforce the rules. The goal is to have only a third of the students in the hallway at a time.  Deon spoke to Richard last week and he hasn’t been able to meet up with Norm yet. Once he does, he says he will contact me.
  • 3.  Deon looked into Coca Cola to ask for recycling bins for free or minimal amount. Grant opens up in January and she will receive notification when the grant opens up for 2015. Two categories for the grant include non-profit organizations (PTO) and schools (Rossview Middle).  Follow up from Chris Hambrick-Computer Lab fundraising campaign. Copy of email forwarded to me from Chris to David Holman-CMCSS -IT My name is Chris Hambrick, and I am one of the Computer Lit teachers at Rossview Middle. I am needing to cover all my bases as we are getting ready to begin a large, ongoing, and multifaceted fundraising campaign to raise money to buy new computers for one of our aging stationary labs. When I took this job I was not aware that the lab I would be working in would not be receiving any updated/new computers possibly ever. I found out that as a system only one lab per middle school is supported with new computers on a regular cycle. My lab is the old CTE Lab and therefore it will not be getting any new computers. I want to make sure that my understanding of this situation is correct before continuing with our fundraising efforts. So, number one, am I correct in my understanding? Number two, are there any future plans to change this policy and if so when? Lastly, if my understanding is correct and there are no future plans to change this policy, do you have any recommendations as we move forward? I need a solution for the long haul as it would be difficult to have to revisit this issue possibly every six years. My proposal for new computers is for approximately $26,000 and we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. I just want to make sure we are justified in our future efforts to reach our goal hopefully by the end of the next school year as my existing computers are really struggling to meet the needed demands on them. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Deon spoke to David Holman and he explained that our computer lab is on the rotation list for new/upgraded equipment. The company that CMCSS used in the past (CTE) is being rotated out and the school system is now on a leasing program. This ensures a budget to pay the lease on an annual basis along with integrating new systems. Chris Hambrick has the response from Mr Holman via email and If I recall correctly our school is on the list for 2016. Please keep in mind if we do a fundraiser specifically for computers, we will need to ensure the students that raise the funds will be able to benefit from their contribution. Ex. 6th graders contributing for 3 years, but equipment isn’t purchased until 4 years from now or 8th graders contributing to the computer fundraiser and then reaping the benefit of their contributions. Mrs Harris, Deon doesn’t recall specifically the details of his email response. Would you mind sharing?  Review of Officers for 2015-16 PTO board – Elaine Peterson/Secretary, Lori Rippy/Treasurer, Lisa Zirkle/Clubs and Facebook, Tina Young and Akiko Rands/Hospitality. Is this correct? Yes  Positions Needed: PTO President/ Parent Ambassador, PTO Vice President/Volunteer Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Hospitality Co Chair, Fundraiser/Spirit Wear Coordinator, Box Tops Coordinator. Is this correct? Yes Names for Mrs Harris to contact: Star Easter, Leslie Powell, Susan Molsbeuger, Melanie Westerman, Carrie Reummler, Whittney Snell, Jamie Cherry, Patti Steinke, Suzette Pinnock, Pam Kuipers, Carmen Soloman.  MCR( My Coke Rewards) FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAM CHANGES The new MCR for Schools is almost here! The first day of the new MCR for Schools program is January 20th. We're so excited, we feel like it's the first day of school! Here's how the new program will give your school even more value than ever before: Points converted directly to dollars. If you have your eye on anything in the rewards catalog, please claim it by January 19th. Starting on January 20th, all schools points will earn cash for your school to buy what it needs most. From physical education and sports equipment, to technology, art and classroom supplies there are plenty of possibilities! At the end of each quarter, your school will receive a payment* through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) direct deposit. New ways to donate: Our new program will make it easier to get involved and keep the cash flowing. MCR members will be able to add cash to their
  • 4. point donation, or choose to just give cash to their school. Important note about your points: Your current point balance is 25975. Remember to redeem them by January 19th if you have your eye on something in our catalog. Deon will enter enough points today so that we will be able to “purchase” the TV for the office prior to January 19th! If not, no big deal. After that date, any remaining points will be converted to cash through our partners at Kula Causes, the world’s largest charitable giving platform. To ensure your school receives its cash donations as quickly and efficiently as possible, Kula asks that you review/update your school information and provide banking credentials, if these are not already on file. To learn more about Kula, please visit www.kula.com. If you no longer wish for your school to participate in MCR for Schools, please contact support@kula.com. If you do not respond, we will consider that an election to participate in the new program and accept donations made to your school. • 5.  Total 6th = 23  Total 7th = 21  Total 8th = 19  Total = 107 Fundraising: Lori Rippy  Lori looking into Krispy Kreme and do a pre-order fundraiser sale. Possibly hand out pre-ordered dozen(s) of donuts at car rider in the am or after school. Perhaps see if Starbucks will donate coffee to hand out to our car riders in the morning? We decided to sell coupons for a dozen glazed doughnuts so that people can pick up their doughnuts when convenient for them. Lori will work on a flyer/order form to distribute after Spring Break. The band is not having a spring fundraiser, so we are free to have a school wide fundraiser in March through the PTO! This will help us to have start-up money for next school year, after the LED Marquee is paid in full, for spirit wear, hospitality, etc. for the Annual Budget Goals.
