The reason for this popular occurrence starts with Howard Schultz taking a
fortuitous trip to Italy. During this trip, Schultz became captivated with these
Italian ‘boutiques’ and the romance of the entire experience. He went on to
open his own store, Il Giornale, to bring the flavour to America. Schult
incorporated some of those influences in his latest venture which in no time
spread globally. Since the venture was designed around the concept of his
Italian inspiration, Schultz wanted it to be reflected in some way whilst making
them distinct. Apart from marketing strategy, the move was an attempt at
making the consumer less wary about the cost and consumption of the
product.

Researchers at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom have developed a tiny set of sensors
to collect climate data that can work in high speed and erratic climatic conditions.
Rick Thomas, the research fellow who leads the project, had an idea to use these sensors in a unique way
to collect data on urban microclimates — the block-by-block variations in temperature, humidity, and
winds that affect living conditions in major cities.
A lot of people say, ‘Well why don’t you just use a drone?’” said Thomas. But drones, of course, have
caused their fair share of trouble in the UK recently. “You can’t fly drones up there. And X have an

This is the Kia Sonet concept, unveiled at the Auto Expo this year. The front of the car,
follows a design pattern that has two very ‘Indian’ inspirations.
The grille shape, which now has a trademarked name, was actually one of many possible
designs in a Kia studio back in 2007. One of the designers pointed out the similarity, and
the shape has since expanded to most Kia models. With the Sonet, the headlamps are
also following on the grille shape.
The geometry of the grille mesh is inspired from something, the concept of which can be
traced to as far back as the Indus Valley Civilization. In its known form of appearance, it
is at least as old as the 4th century Uperkot Caves of Junagadh.

In the first Olympic Winter Games in 1924, timing ski-races over long distances presented

lines on the mountains to communicate the start time of the athletes to the officials on
the finish line, with different athletes starting at different times due to narrow
slopes. What innovative method was devised to time such races over long distances?
