1. Thanks to OMOBILE when responding to emergency
situations
“A TREMENDOUS AND RESOUNDINGLY SUCCESSFUL EXPERIENCE ON
A HUMAN SCALE.”
Mr Emmanuel Bertran de Balanda, Director of the site in Malvési (Areva)
We undertook the project together, with both sides sharing the risks. Degrémont
Industry, via Ondeo IS, really pulled out all the stops in terms of listening to,
understanding and adapting to our needs, providing the best solution to our problems.
It was a tremendous people oriented experience that proved to be a win-win situation
for both sides, topped by the success of the operation and smooth performance of our
treatment facilities.
CLIENTS
2. ISO 14001-certified comurhex, an Areva NC subsidiary, produces
chemicals prior to the nuclear combustion cycle at its base in
Malvesi.
In February 2006, the site was hit by an exceptional spate of bad
weather, with heavy rainfall leading to local flooding. Over 60,000 m³ of
water with a high nitrate content (5 to 10 g/L) required urgent treatment.
Since the storage basins were no longer able to receive the rainwater
running in off the plains or the effluent from the plant, the facility was
shut down. A solution was urgently needed to allow production to
resume as quickly as possible.
AREVA immediately made available the
necessary human and financial resources, and
started looking into every possible solution.
Degrémont Industry, via Ondeo IS, was
contacted and promptly set up an emergency
task force to find the suitable organisation and
technologies in urgent response to the
customer's needs.
Reverse osmosis, which until then had been
used for process water treatment or seawater
desalination, was put forward as a
groundbreaking solution that could treat the
effluent. Following a successful series of pilot
tests, OMOBILE, the mobile reverse osmosis
treatment unit, and the associated operating
services were implemented to provide the
necessary speed of response, while adapting to
changing effluent qualities.
Comurhex can tackle exceptional
climate changes
Thanks to the facilities and human
resources at its disposal.
A commitment to promoting
sustainable development
> Local authorities and government
agencies appreciated the speed at
which the company faced up to its
responsibilities and took action to avoid
polluting the natural environment.
> The "water recycling" approach
reinforces the customer's commitment
and image.
Rainwater recycled into the process
The new process will enable Comurhex to reuse water
with an initially high load (from 50 to 150 mg/L of TSS*
entering the facility, 0 leaving the facility), with a flow
rate of 25 m³/h, which can then be reinjected in the
process while offering excellent quality. Comurhex will
therefore use less water and save money.
