7. How Do We Do It?
Problem
In India there is no association or
regulatory body assigned by the
government for establishing a food truck
business. Licensing for food trucks in
India is highly unorganized and is the
most time consuming and burdensome
task.
Solution
For every food business, a license from
FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority
of India) is required. The standards have to
be followed to ensure availability of safe and
wholesome food for human consumption.
Businesses which have turnover of over Rs
12 lakh per annum require this license.

๏ผ Vehicle: To start things off we need a truck. We can use a second
hand one or buy a new truck.
Typically a truck will cost a minimum of INR 4 lakhs.
๏ผ Equipment: We will also need to invest in essential kitchen
equipment as a one-time investment for our truck. This will include
stove, utensils, cooking vessels, cutlery.
All the equipment put together would cost around INR 2 lakhs.
๏ผ Raw Material: We will need a stock of inventory or raw materials to
prepare the meals.
That would cost about INR 20-30K.
๏ผ Staff: Around 13-15K per month per person.
๏ผ Marketing: Like any other business, sales will come in only if we
are promoting and advertising our business the right way. Marketing
would include both offline and online promotions and it can cost a
lot of money. As it is a startup, we should keep aside at least 20K a
month for our marketing.
