  • 27. Summary Cloud backup has tangible benefits: productivity, cost, peace of mind / protection Hybrid clouds can provide best-of-both-worlds between corporate IT and public Internet Federated ID Three-tier storage solutions Cloud storage services enable anywhere, anytime information access from any device
  • 28. Q&A
  • 30. Business Concerns control How do we know what’s been shared!? Users want smartphones access. Can we secure them? How do we restrict file sync to only company computers? We can’t allow photo uploads and Facebook sharing... We need to allow collaboration only between current employees. If we allow user to sync to their home computers, can we find out what files users have synched? …and suddenly all our execs have iPads. Can we set policy differently for them? Can we set up a policy for how long a linked share can last?
  • 31. Protect, organize and enrich most valuable information. Our Mission:
  • 32. Cloud Backup – How it works Automatic backup happens in background. No user intervention required Data is encrypted and sent, backedup to an encrypted server Online Administrator sets backup and retention policies Light-weight agent runs on target laptops/desktops/servers Previous versions and deleted files are kept on backup servers for immediate retrieval for 30 days…making retrieval of accidentally deleted files possible
  • 34. Public Clouds: A Growth Market “The public cloud is where the best and richest variety of business solutions will increasingly be found.” - IDC
  • 35. …digital information will grow five-fold between 2008 and 2012…seventy percent will be created by individuals…eighty five percent of which will be managed by companies Source: IDC Digital Universe White Paper, Sponsored by EMC, May 2009ç Driven by Growth in Digital Information Decho Confidential - NDA Required
  • 36. MozyConnect: Embracing Hybrid Clouds Embedded Mozy client for Linux-based NAS devices Only available pre-installed on storage devices Device manufacturer developed UI Integrated into the NAS device's admin tools by the device manufacturer
  • 38. Device-Centric to Information-Centric Shift SECURE “I only want authorized users to see my information” SHARE “I wish to share my information with my colleagues, customers and partners” ACCESS “I want to access my information from anywhere using any one of my devices, regardless of whether or not I’m online” PROTECT “I want to protect my information on all of my devices”

  1. 2005. Selling biz services in U.K. for 2 years, with a direct web presence for the last year. Also in Ireland, France, Germany.
  2. 2 core services: Pro & Home online backup. Two Pro flavors: desktops and servers. All provide automated, secure protection for your data.
  3. Traditionally of course backup is based on an on-premise system. You buy, operate, maintain and support it. It’s been the conventional approach, but more and more IT managers are questioning whether its’ the best usage of their team’s scarce time and energy. There’s overhead to taking it on yourself. Hire it out, like a lawn service. There’s a second traditional option: do nothing! Corporate data at risk. Hard drives fail. No one would advocate the practice, but it’s often done. And that reflects the hassle factor of doing this. Hardware and Software Cost-Buying Decisions-Constantly Changing TechnologiesData Center Overhead Costs-Power-Cooling-Space-Bandwidth
  4. Productivity – automated and keeps your end users productive. Faster downtime. Lost laptop – pull one from the pool and restore – ready within the same day. Also, as online service, provides coverage to mobile professionals and can provide data restoration anywhere they are, including on the road. Peace of Mind – for you providing protection, and knowing we have it protected. Value – No Cap Ex. Cheaper than in-house options. Pay as you go. Only 6% of business backup data is in the cloud (ESG)Significant cost reduction for businesses over traditional methodsCIO’s expect 30+% cost savings from cloud services (Gartner)Increasing awareness of cloud backup solutions to businesses large and smallIn 2008 there were 250 providers (ESG)In 2010 there were 1000s (ESG)
  5. So Why NOT do it? These are the things people raise as concerns, and chief among them is security. Some of these others may speak to you and your specific circumstances, but we find security is always raise, so let’s deal with it.
  6. We take it seriously and have invested accordingly.2 encryption options. Default is 448-bit blowfish. Or you can provide your own encryption keys. Either way, we encrypt on the client and send over a secure SSL connection. The bits come to us encrypted and are stored encrypted in our data centers. We have successfully completed a SZAS 70 Type 2 audit, and are ISO 270001 certified. Something we are quite proud of and we know no other online backup vendor who carries that certifiication.
  7. Concerns aside, the model is so compelling that according to a Gartner survey Cloud Computing rates at the top of strategic technologies for this year.
  8. Which cloud: Public, Private, Hybrid. Hybrid is current IT challenge.
  9. End users also have a challenge. As they work with multiple devices in multiple venues, they create islands of information.
  10. These are intended to be just a sampling of some of the Control-concerns IT admins will have…
