his emphasis on green business practices, David
Pflieger is currently in the process of revamping Fiji’s
national airline. Air Pacific, which will be known as Fiji
Airways after May of 2013, has recently ordered three
new airplanes to replace retiring members of its fleet.
Two of the Airbus 330s will debut in June 2013, and a
third will enter service in November 2013.

The new planes are more fuel-efficient than the Boeing
747s they will replace. In addition, while total seating
capacity remains unchanged, having three planes
instead of two will allow the airline the flexibility to match
routes to demand. In addition, the Airbus 330s will have
low maintenance costs. David Pflieger explained that he
cancelled the airline’s Boeing Dreamliner order and
placed the Airbus order in an attempt to balance a
desire for environmental sustainability with the need for
increased fiscal discipline during a down economy.
Travelers may look forward to increased comfort and
style once the new planes begin to serve Fiji Airways.
