■ What types of energy sources can we use to help lower CO2
emissions?
In a subsequent interview with theYale School of Forestry and
Environmental Studies, Mr. Lawrence outlined some basic
strategies for addressing global energy needs. One suggestion
involves developing a simple, practical strategy for putting a cost
on carbon; however, this option is more difficult to implement
politically.Another involves a market-driven strategy, where
consumers lead the demand and producers of alternative energy
drive down prices.This strategy has proven successful in areas of
the country where solar and wind energy have grown in popularity
due to changes in the market, rather than policy.
