GRID Logistics Inc. has designed a comprehensive freight handling system to double container capacity at Southern California ports to 30 million by 2025. The system includes 1) a vertical pier terminal called SuperDock that can load and unload ships and trains more efficiently, 2) a 152-mile underground freight tunnel to remove trucks from freeways, and 3) inland terminals serviced by alternative fuel trucks for last-mile deliveries. GRID Logistics Inc. has designed a comprehensive freight-handling system which increases the
port’s capacity to move the 30 million containers projected to flow to and from the Southern
California region port complexes by 2025, double present day annual volumes.
GRID Project’s supply chain network infrastructure comprises of; 1) The SuperDock™ - a
vertical pier designed ship-to-rail interface container terminal facility having a high density crane
population, automated storage and retrieval system that will load and unload ships and trains at
a fraction of today’s terminal performance. 2) A 152 mile freight tunnel pipeline circuit beneath
the Southern California basin so that every container moving through the tunnel results in a
truck removed from the freeway network eliminating millions of truck trips to and from the ports.
3) Feeder terminals positioned at industrially zoned cities loading and unloading to alternative
fueled trucking fleets that perform last mile warehouse deliveries. All GRID infrastructures are to
be powered exclusively by electrification.
GRID’s freight transportation infrastructure will de-congest regional freeway traffic networks;
improve freight delivery performance while reducing greenhouse gas emissions at our ports,
inland regions, and transpacific trade lanes. Multi-year infrastructure will generate significant
long term jobs creation in the region while simultaneously improving quality of life for the
region’s citizens and improved transportation for urban commuters and our economically vital
