2. Pharmanex Biophotonic Scanner
1. Antioxidants are of benefit in treating age-related macular degeneration
2. The portable S3 scanner measures antioxidants in 30 seconds
3. The patient receives a number to motivate & monitor changes
4. The patient returns in three months to assess changes on score

• Developed at the University of Utah in 2001
• Measures summated total of 18 carotenoid antioxidants
• More reliable than serum level of antioxidants (2009)
• 72 published studies on the science and the scanner
