4. CHEETAH
Cheetah
The cheetah is one of the fastest animals on Earth, reaching speeds
of close to 60 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) while chasing
prey. Wildebeests, gazelles, impalas, and other hoofed mammals
make up much of the cheetah’s diet.

5. Elephants are the largest land animals.
Some elephants can weigh as much as a
car! Male elephants live alone but female
elephants live together in families. When a
baby elephant is born, other females in the
family help raise it.

6. Lions are one of the largest members of the cat family. The throaty roar of a
lion can be heard more than 5 miles, or 8 kilometers, away. Lions are
powerful hunters. Their great strength and terrifying roars have earned them
the title “king of the beasts.”

7. Giraffes are the tallest land animals, with some growing as tall as 20 feet, or 6 meters.
Most four-legged animals walk by moving their forward legs first and then their back
legs. But giraffes walk by moving both legs on one side before moving the other two
forward. This creates a sideways rocking motion that is balanced out by the giraffe’s
long neck.

8. Tigers are fierce hunters. They can kill their prey with one powerful bite to the
neck. Young tigers like to play around. Play fights help them learn how to
defend themselves.

9. Kangaroos are a type of mammal called a marsupial. Baby marsupials are
unable to survive on their own when they are born, so they must live in a
pouch on their mother’s belly. A newborn kangaroo, called a joey, stays in its
mother’s pouch for about six months, where it feeds on her milk.

10. DOLPHIN
The bottlenose
A dolphin leaps high out of the water and glides through a hoop. It lands
back in the water with a big splash. This is the kind of trick you might see
dolphins perform in shows at zoos or aquariums.
Scientists study captive dolphins in zoos and aquariums. Dolphins are noted
for their intelligence, and trainers can teach them all kinds of tricks. But
dolphins usually live in oceans and seas. Dolphins resemble porpoises and
are related to them.
