2. We are constantly surrounded by distractions.
So many in fact, it cuts our productivity by drastic amounts.
Maybe we got a phone call or a text, or the TV show we were
watching on the side came back on, or a co-worker came over for
some small talk, or your cat wants some attention.
Once you’ve started working, you stop as soon as anything like
that happens. Your brain turns off the part that was
concentrating on being productive, and it can take
anywhere between a minute to an hour to warm it back up again.
Wouldn’t it make sense to cut out these distractions?

3. Who am I?
If you haven’t met me yet, my name is Darryl Hicks, CEO
of Tungsten Revenue Consultants and Flexpay, and Co-
Founder of Tungsten Solutions. As you can imagine, I’m a
busy person. I get reminders, phone calls, and other
distractions all the time. That’s why I started taking
advantage of a 2-hour “hermit mode.”

4. Hermit on the Inside
This “hermit mode” is a 2-hour time slot where I put myself on “Do Not
Disturb.” I put my phone on airplane mode, find a room where I can avoid
outside noise, and I work. It is the most productive 2-hours of my day.
It doesn’t matter if your boss has a question, or you need to double-check
something with a reference or a co-worker, or you’re missing your favorite
show. It can wait until the 2 hours are over.

5. Hermit on the Inside
If you give in to those outside demands, you’re forcing your brain to
multitask.
Studies have shown, multitasking actually reduces efficiency by up to
40%, for each task you’re trying to complete. That’s because focusing on
multiple things at once is impossible.
Your brain actually switches back and forth between them, forcing you to
refocus every time you switch.
That can cost a lot of valuable time.

6. Adjust your time.
If 2 hours is too much for your schedule, feel free to adjust it. But
remember, we all spend 7 or 8 hours every day doing absolutely no work
at all.
When was the last time you woke up in the morning and checked your
phone, only to find something terrible had happened because you didn’t
reply to an email you got at 3am? I’m going to guess, never. So if 8 hours
doesn’t end the planet, you can spare an extra 2 in the middle of your
day.
Give my hermit mode a try. If you have any questions, drop me a line at
Darryl Hicks Tungsten, and I’ll be glad to help.
