1. This Ain’t Enough
Pastor Ron Martin
SCREENS> Mark 8:25 NASB
Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked
intently and was restored, and began to see everything
clearly.
SCREENS> I NEED SOME MORE
In today’s narrative we find an unusual scenario. If you’ve
never perused this particular passage before, you’ve really
missed a treat. As a matter of fact, as I reintroduced myself
to the text, I came to the shocking realization that perhaps I
can identify with the brother in this story more than I can
with any other person in the bible.
As you will see as we dive in the text this weekend, it is not
this brother’s situation that is unique, but it is his response
that is so encouraging. Let’s jump into the text so that I can
better state my case.
SCREENS> Mark 8:22-23
22And they came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind
man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him. 23Taking the
blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village;
and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him,
He asked him, “Do you see anything?”
Okay, let’s get to work! There’s a lot of preaching in this text
and I don’t want to skip over any of it. So please afford me
the pastoral latitude to deal with this brother’s story from
2. everybody’s perspective. Because the first thing I see in the
text is
SCREENS> The Man’s Condition
Please don’t miss this because it is possibly the most
important aspect of the text! The brother is blind, that is his
condition. Interestingly enough, besides this, the Bible
doesn’t tell me anything else about the brother! I don’t
know his history. I don’t know anything about His family. I
don’t know if he was born blind, I don’t know if there was an
accident that made him that way, truth be told, all I know is
that he is indeed blind! And apparently, that’s all the Bible
wants me to know!
It’s as if God wants me to be more concerned about the
brother’s position than his history. And it makes me wonder if
at some times if our problem as Christians is that we get too
caught up in why people are messed up instead of just
caring that they are messed up! Come on now, I’m
preaching!
We’re so busy trying to calculate how a person may have
gotten themselves in a situation, that we forget that we’ve
all been caught up in a little “something something” before!
Yeah, you sitting in here all cute and saved right now, but
everybody got some “ratchet” in their history! Come on
now! That’s why I’m so thankful that God’s grace is not
predicated on how good I was, but on how good He is!
3. If God treated us, like we treated people, we’d all be
hopeless! God is not concerned with “why” you’re messed
up, He just wants to be the one to fix you up!
SCREENS> God doesn’t care why, because He knows how!
He doesn’t care why you’re broke, because He knows
how to bless you!
He doesn’t care why you’re sick, because He knows
how to heal you!
He doesn’t care why you’re falling, because He knows
how to lift you up! [WORK]
The why is irrelevant! In a similar situation, Jesus was asked
why another brother was blind. They asked was he born that
way or was it something his parents did that caused him to
be cursed without sight! And Jesus’ response was, none of
that is relevant! The only thing that matters, is whatever
condition He is in, it is for the glory of God to be revealed!
Somebody should’ve tore the club up right there,
because I just told you that whatever you’re dealing
with and for whatever reason it happened, it’s for the
glory of God to be revealed in you! [WORK]
o For this cause was the Son of God manifested that
He would destroy the works of the enemy!!!
We’re still in verse 22! I gotta finish up this verse so we can
move on!
SCREENS> Mark 8:22 NASB
22And they came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind
man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him.
4. Now that we know the brother’s condition, it helps us
understand the remainder of the text. Because of his
condition, he does not bring himself to Jesus! The brother is
blind, he’s not coming on his own!
Which is why it is foolish to think that sinners are going to
show up just because we’re having good church! They’re
too blind to see how to get here! They’re too paralyzed to
pick themselves up! They’re too sick to get up early enough
to crawl out of the bed and make it to the house of God!
This blind brother did not show up on his own, they text
states explicitly that somebody brought him to Jesus!
Here’s a question!
SCREENS> Who are you bringing to Jesus?
You’ve been coming too long to still be showing up by
yourself! Empty pews begin with empty cars! As many
hurting and messed up people as we run into every day,
there shouldn’t be one service where the house is not
packed! Everybody needs to be bringing somebody!
And not only did they bring him to Jesus, but they, and I’m
still in the text, they…
SCREENS> implored Him to touch him!
Oh God! They brought him to Jesus and then begs Him to
do a miracle! I’m just crazy enough to believe, that the
disciples were always looking for someone with an issue just
so that they can see Jesus do something!
5. I just wanna see Him do it again!!!!
o Touch my neighbor!!!
Let’s Continue,
SCREENS> Mark 8:23
Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of
the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His
hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?”
Now the first thing we saw in the text, was the man’s
condition, now we see
SCREENS> The Man Repositioned
The first thing that Jesus does when the blind man is brought
to him is, He takes his hand and leads Him out of the village!
Now, this will preach, because Jesus says, I can’t fix your
condition until I change your position! I’m preaching!
Because the truth is, that most of us couldn’t get our
change until we first changed our environments! [WORK]
You’ve got to get out of this first!
o This is going to keep making you doubt what I’ve
done!
So Jesus brings the man out of the village, spits in his eyes
and lays hands on him and then says, “Do you see
anything.”
I’m sorry, but where else can you find where Jesus healed
somebody and then asked them if they got healed? You
would think, based on the way that we talk about it in
6. churches that once Jesus laid his hands on Him, that he
would’ve been completely healed. But look at the question,
SCREENS> Do you see anything?
Let me put myself in the text for a minute. Why would Jesus
have ot ask this question? I’m guessing based on scriptural
evidence that perhaps after Jesus laid his hands on the
man, that maybe the man did not look completely satisfied.
Perhaps, his eyes were squinting as he was straining to see,
and so Jesus says, do you see anything?
Can I preach for a minute! Maybe God says, I’m not going
to do anything else until you acknowledge that you’re at
least seeing something!!! Don’t let the devil get you so
caught up in what’s not working that you don’t praise God
for the something in your life that you do see working!
It ain’t picture perfect yet, but I see something!!!!
[GO CRAZY]
Come on let’s bring this show to a close!
SCREENS> Mark 8:24 NASB
And he looked up and said, “I see men, for I see them like
trees, walking around.”
Now I’m going to come back and preach the issues of his
perception on a later date. But on this weekend I could
care less about what actually said, it is what he
communicated that blesses me in the city of sanctified soul!
Yeah, I know what he said, but what he is communicating is,
7. SCREENS> This Ain’t Enough
God, I wish I had a church in here! He says, and I’m
paraphrasing, I’m thankful that I’m seeing some
improvement, but this ain’t enough!!! [GO CRAZY]
I need some more!!!
Don’t make the mistake of confusing ambition with a lack of
appreciation! God I’m thankful for everything you’ve done
for me, and I don’t want to seem ungrateful, but God, I
NEED SOME MORE!!! This ain’t enough!
What we find in this brother is hunger for healing! And I’m
realizing that most of us can’t get more than what we have
because we’re not hungry enough! You might be starving,
but you’re not hungry!
When you’re hungry for more, you’re always positioning
yourself to get more! Hungry people don’t sleep, they
grind!!!! [JUST FLOW]
Hungry people eat – the man that don’t work, don’t
eat!
SCREENS> Act hungry to make sure that you don’t end up
hungry!
The biggest mistake you can make is to not act like you’re
hungry for more! That’s not being humble, that’s being
foolish! Let your haters act like they don’t need more, while
you make it clear that you do!
I’m hungry!!!! My appetite is healthy!
o I want a little more than this!!!
8. When I eat, I eat like a man! I want the plate to be a
mystery that I have to solve! I don’t want to be able to see
the plate!
You gotta be willing to push for more! People with healthy
appetites get more out of life because they are not satisfied
with little. My appetite won’t let me accept just a little bit!
SCREENS> Mark 8:25 NASB
Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked
intently and was restored, and began to see everything
clearly.
SCREENS> You won’t get it until you ask for it!
PUSH THE ALTAR!!!!
SCREENS> Mark 8:26 NASB
And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the
village.”
CLOSE HOW YOU CAN
