2. Sub Genre
• There are 8 main sub genres within the horror genre of movie films. These
sub-genres being slasher, splatter, vampire, psychological, zombie, monster, j-
horror and thriller. These particular sub genres connote the style of the film
and the contents which may follow; they all have different conventions.
3. Film Title
• Upon researching similar films of the same sub genre, various films used
mostly the same elements in their film, following the same code and
conventions. These films had titles such as ‘Poltergeist’, ‘The Exorcist’,
‘Altar’ and ‘Sinister’.
• Some of these titles hold a religious background to their name, and by
taking this into account, I have decided to use ‘Dark Priest’ as my title. The
word “dark” connoting evil and fear, meaning that the priest is evil.
• In history, priests that are called “evil” have been accused of summoning
ghosts and demons. This tradition will work well for my movie.
4. • Upon analysing trailers and other horror films, as well as looking into the
typicality found in some conventions as a class, I have decided that my film is
going to be a supernatural. I’ll engage into this sub-genre by featuring a ghost
in my film or a haunted place, which will signify the idea of ‘Horror of the
demonic’
5. Target Audience
• 15 and above
• Both male and female
• People who are interested in horror films, tension and suspense
6. Inspirations
• My main inspirations are Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who are
best known for being the directors of Paranormal Activity 3 & 4.
These two films conveyed the idea of the supernatural/paranormal
film that I want to be featured in my film. It involved demons and
ghosts taking possession of other people or people being haunted by
ghosts in a seemingly normal environment. The films also featured
religious symbols and in the film which coincide with ‘The Horror
of the Demon’.
• The film ‘Sinister’ also inspired me, as it included a demon haunting
a home and threatening the lives of a family that moved in.
• From the trailers, the movie Poltergeist also involved a twisted
preacher and demons, which adds as another additional inspiration.
7. Protagonists and Antagonist
• The protagonist will be two teens who live alone in a household. An honest
and pure teenage boy along with a more mischievous teenage girl.
• The antagonist will be the evil priest and the demon he summons.
8. ‘Dark Priest’ Trailer Narrative
• The trailer begins with a crab shot of a person in a dark brown cloak
surrounded by a few candles in a dark place resembling that of a church. The
person will resemble an evil priest and will be shown chanting some words,
as though he is summoning something.
• From this point on, after the demon is summoned, a few quick cuts will be
shown, the body of the demon ghost will flash on screen and off and will
begin to attack members of a house as the priest comes near.
9. Location
• The film trailer will take place mainly in a house, as well as a church or
cathedral.
• A church may be difficult to film the movie as making a horror film in a
church may cause controversy. So we may use a graveyard instead.
