September report

2. September Highlights  Banned Books Week- September 25th- October 2nd: We created an informational bulletin board highlighting books that have been banned somewhere in the United States that we have in our collection, most of the books are very popular and most are read in language arts courses. Students were interested as to why the books were banned and even checked some of the books out! (Picture on the front page)  We have been working on putting together an OHS Media Center Webpage to assist both students and staff members on finding information online and in the media center. Basic information has been added but there is much more to be included. Feedback is always appreciated!  Along with the OHS Media Center Webpage, an OHS Research Guide will also be added to help students with formatting papers, completing citations, using databases, and searching online. This is in the beginning stages.  A request form has been added to the website and paper copies are available on the media center circulation desk for student/staff requests for new materials. We want to ensure that materials being purchased are going relevant to the needs of the patrons.  We are preparing to do our media center inventory to help to update our collection. This will be a lengthy process that will be completed throughout this trimester and possibly during the 2nd one as well. During this process lost books will be deleted and outdated materials will be taken out of the collection. This process will help to analyze what sections need new materials to better fit the needs of the staff and students of OHS. Media Center Statistics Student Visits:  A total of 4221 students visited the media center during the month of September, this includes before school, lunches, after school, drop-ins and class visits.  C Lunch is the busiest lunch hour in the media center with a total of 366 students visiting in September.

3. Class Visits:  36 teachers reserved the media center area during September below is the breakdown of the subject areas that came in: Class Visits to Media Center by Subject Area 11% Language Arts 19% Special Education 22% Science Physical Education/Health Social Studies 39% 3% Foreign Language 6%  65 teacher reserved the media center computer lab throughout the month, below is the breakdown of the subject areas: Class Visits to Media Center Lab by Subject Area Language Arts 17% Physical Education/Health 37% Science Special Education 28% Social Studies 14% 1% Foreign Language 3%  Teacher with the most visits: Dan Sargent with 17!

4.
