• See important information at a glance:
weather, appointments, news, and more.
• Choose from several app tile sizes to create an efficient experience.

5.  Access an app’s settings and extra
functionalities with a swipe or click.
• To open an app, tap or click the corresponding app tile.
• To access app commands in an open app, right-click the app or swipe
from the top or bottom of the screen.

6.  Access and sort your apps in just a few
clicks or taps.
• To access a list of all apps on your device, near the bottom of the Start
screen, click the down arrow. Or, swipe up on the Start screen.
• In Apps view you can sort apps by name, date installed, most used, or
category.

7.  Find the info, places, and settings you
need.
• Open the charms from wherever you are:
• Swipe in from the right edge of your screen.
• With the mouse pointer, point to the upper-right corner of the
screen, and then move down along the edge.
• Use the charms to find info with Bing Smart Search, to
share your work, and to personalize your settings.

8.  Start a Bing Smart Search to find info fast.
• Begin a search in one of two ways:
• On the Start screen, simply start typing. Select one of the suggestions from your
results list, or finish typing the term and then press ENTER.
• Open the Search charm. In the search box, enter a search term. Choose one of the
suggestions from the results list.
• Bing Smart Search delivers results from the both the web and your
device—all in a beautiful app-like experience.

9.  Instantly find an app by using one of three
methods.
• On the Start screen, start typing the name of
the app that you want to open.
• On the Start screen, open Apps view to display
all of your apps. You can filter the view or search
for the app here if necessary.
• If you know that the app you want is pinned to
the Start screen, scroll to the left or right of the
screen to look for the app.

10.  Share articles, websites, and screen shots
through email or social networks.
• From the open app, open the charms and
tap or click Share.
• Choose to share via email or social
networks, or bookmark to read for later.

11.  Print from any open app.
• From any app (such as Word), open the Devices charm to select a
printer.
• Click Print to print the document
directly from the app.

12.  Connect your device to a
projector for easy viewing.
• Choose how to display your view on a
second device or screen: duplicate or extend
it, or display it only on the second screen.

13.  Find and connect to wireless networks
wherever you travel.
• Manage system-wide settings at the bottom of the pane.
• Connect to a network, adjust volume and brightness, change
notifications and keyboard settings, and access power options.

14.  Go to the desktop to access Excel, Word,
PowerPoint, and more.
• On the Start screen, click or tap the Desktop tile to work on the
traditional desktop.
• To return to the Start screen, press the WINDOWS key, or click or tap
the Start button in the lower-left corner of the screen.

15.  Take advantage of the desktop’s time-
saving features.
• Use the taskbar to manage open apps and files.
• Customize backgrounds, icons, and shortcuts.
• Access the charms.

16.  Personalize the desktop with a favorite photo
or a slide show of your own pictures.
• From the desktop, open the Settings charm.
• Open Control Panel and use the Appearance and Personalization
options to customize your desktop.

17.  Open the new Quick Link menu to access
essential features.
• Press and hold, or right-click, the Start button to open the Quick Link
menu.
• Choose an option to open Control
Panel, Task Manager, File Explorer, and
more.

18.  You can configure Windows to display the
desktop as soon as you sign in.
• On the desktop, right-click or press and hold the taskbar.
• Select Properties.
• Open the Navigation tab.
• In the Start screen section, you can
choose to display your desktop whenever
you sign in or close all apps.

19.  Add favorite apps to the taskbar for easy
access from the desktop.
• Right-click or press and hold the app that you want to add to the
taskbar.
• Choose Pin to Taskbar.
