Teach for America, an organization that
recruits college graduates and professionals
to teach students in inner-city public schools.
Cyrus Shepherd-Oppenheim has taught
history and mathematics to high school
students in the South Central area of Los
Angeles since 2012.

Established in 1990, Teach for America
drafts young professionals and college alumni
as “corps members” to teach in public
schools in urban and rural areas for a period
of two years. The entity is dedicated to
abolishing inequality in education.

Teach for America corps members comprise
alumni, teachers, entrepreneurs, and leaders

same commitment of increasing educational

significant impact on the lives of more than 3
million students. Of the millions of young
people who live in poverty, only 8 percent
graduate from college. Teach for America
provides an abundance of educational and
leadership opportunities for these students,
as well as the opportunity to break the cycle
of poverty and inequality.
