Mr. President
Men of Central Standard,

What an exciting time to be a member of this chorus! Just four short months ago, this group underwent a
serious transition...one with the potential to make or break an organization of our size and in our
profession. What was our reaction? To retool ourselves, rediscover ourselves, and absolutely rededicate
ourselves to the future of this chorus. I am absolutely awestruck by the manner in which we have
responded to this very important period in our chapter. You all have accepted new responsibilities,
increased your practice time and increased your attendance, which in turn has drastically increased the
quality of our brotherhood and the quality of our chorus. I am amazed by what we are able to
accomplish.

This weekend presents us with a neat opportunity. As Rob mentioned this past week, we get to share our set
with the rest of the district and to receive a full evaluation and score of our performance....3 MONTHS
before International contest. I think that we all can agree on the fact that the quality of sound we are
producing right now blows away what we were doing at this time last year...and these songs are still in
their infancy. How can you not be absolutely ecstatic about our future? I'm practically jumping off the
couch as I type this!

Not so long ago, other people were talking about how this was the end of Central Standard. I think we can
officially put that idea to rest with our performance on Saturday. Let's have an incredible experience this
weekend and show the district once and for all that Central Standard is here to stay.

Let's get 'em!!!!

Matt
                                                                                                              cs 3
Mr. Leader Man
Dear Singers,

It is with great excitement and admiration that I reflect on the past three months together, and look forward to
      this coming weekend
and beyond!

You have been willing and active participants in a chorus landscape that has been shifting at a rapid pace. I
thank you for the trust, for
your energy and your continued enthusiasm as we continue to define who we are.

I am thrilled with the progress we have made together. Every week, we continue to develop a sound that is
     more and more
impressive and exciting. We have learned 4 great new songs in 3 months, with many more to come! Now, we
     have the opportunity
to share our music with a great panel of judges, and set the bar as high as possible - 3 full months before
     singing in the Sprint Center!

Of course, we would be nowhere without Mike Neff, Mike Louque, and all of the leaders, singers, and
     supporters of Central Standard
that have laid the foundation. Their vision and perseverance is the reason that we are able to be a part of
     such an amazing ensemble!

One of the most exciting features of this first contest weekend together, is that we are represented by so many
     quartets! I wish the
very best to: 3 Men and a Melody, Last Call, Listen Up!, Skyline, Stepping Stones, and Vintage Stock in the
prelims contest, and Sound cs 4
Revolution and Vintage Stock in the collegiate contest. What amazing participation! I am hopeful that we'll
Grooming Guidelines
• Make sure your suit and shirt have been dry cleaned and pressed, ready to go for the contest. When you
get to “Wichatuni”, hang it up when you get settled into your room, so that the wrinkles fall out of it. You
might even hang it in the bathroom and run a hot shower with the door closed for a few minutes…the
steam will loosen up any stray wrinkles.
• Polish up your black shoes and get them nice and shiny for the stage. The sales clerk at Off Broadway
Shoes said the best thing to polish them with is Windex!
• Haircuts and grooming - pay a visit to your barber/stylist before we head off to “Wichatuni”. Have a
neatly trimmed neckline, and product for your hair, as appropriate (gel, pomade, forming cream, etc).
• Neatly trimmed and groomed facial hair (for those of us that have it), otherwise, it's cleanshaven for those
that aren't sporting a beard, goatee, or stache.
• Check those stray eyebrows, and nose/ear hair - trim them if needed (yep, we get em - we're guys - it
    happens).
• Neatly trimmed and groomed fingernails, minus nailpolish...just checking to see how closely you're
    reading. ;-)
• No colognes or aftershave in rehearsal or onstage during the contest performance.
• Drink plenty of water and hydrate all week.

Information:
he Orpheum Theatre opened on Sept. 4, 1922, it was
the first atmospheric theatre in the United States.
The theatre was conceived as a garden of old
Andalusia. It's entire design was that of a Spanish
garden or court.

The magnificent proscenium arch is the main feature
of the auditorium. The sidewalls of the auditorium
were accented by niches with mock tile roofs and
grills and wooden lattice work arches across the
ceiling to create a courtyard effect.

The Wichita Orpheum was an integral part of the famous "Orpheum Circuit" and in its heyday, virtually every major
star of vaudeville graced its stage. During this period, more than 17,000 acts appeared with the playbill changing
three times each week.

In 1980 the Orpheum was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1984 it was gifted to the Orpheum
Performing Arts Centre, Ltd., a non profit corporation which is dedicated to the preservation, restoration and ongoing
utilization of this important part of our cultural and architectural heritage. Today the 1300 seat theatre host a variety ofcs 14
acts from concerts to movies and plays.

FAQ
What is the ACSC? The past championship quarters from our district put on a show. Since this is pre-lims for
International, and not the regular fall contest there is no ACSC show, that will be in the Fall.
Where do I buy CD’s? TBD
Where is the Harmony Marketplace? There isn’t one at the district level – that only happens at International.
Who do I call if I’m confused? If it is contest related, Chris Hecker. 816-617-4599
Where do we park? The city parking lot directly across from the hotel is FREE and open and available 24/hrs. The
hotel does have a 500 spot covered parking garage (this is NOT THE VALET) and it is $8/night.
Where do we eat/drink/party? There are a number of fast food and sit down type restaurants all over the place.
Check with the front counter for more information.
How do I get to the Hotel? See the “Directions/Maps” and the “Detailed Downtown Map” pages in the beginning of
     the packet.
How do I get to the Contest Site? See the “Directions/Maps” and the “Detailed Downtown Map” pages in the
     beginning of the packet.
Will there be busses to and from any hotel? This information has not yet been posted to the website – stand by for
     update.
Is there a party or gathering afterwards Saturday night? There are usually a series of Hospitality Rooms hosted by
various chapters held all over the hotel.

                                                                                                             cs 30

  • 4. Mr. President Men of Central Standard, What an exciting time to be a member of this chorus! Just four short months ago, this group underwent a serious transition...one with the potential to make or break an organization of our size and in our profession. What was our reaction? To retool ourselves, rediscover ourselves, and absolutely rededicate ourselves to the future of this chorus. I am absolutely awestruck by the manner in which we have responded to this very important period in our chapter. You all have accepted new responsibilities, increased your practice time and increased your attendance, which in turn has drastically increased the quality of our brotherhood and the quality of our chorus. I am amazed by what we are able to accomplish. This weekend presents us with a neat opportunity. As Rob mentioned this past week, we get to share our set with the rest of the district and to receive a full evaluation and score of our performance....3 MONTHS before International contest. I think that we all can agree on the fact that the quality of sound we are producing right now blows away what we were doing at this time last year...and these songs are still in their infancy. How can you not be absolutely ecstatic about our future? I'm practically jumping off the couch as I type this! Not so long ago, other people were talking about how this was the end of Central Standard. I think we can officially put that idea to rest with our performance on Saturday. Let's have an incredible experience this weekend and show the district once and for all that Central Standard is here to stay. Let's get 'em!!!! Matt cs 3
  • 5. Mr. Leader Man Dear Singers, It is with great excitement and admiration that I reflect on the past three months together, and look forward to this coming weekend and beyond! You have been willing and active participants in a chorus landscape that has been shifting at a rapid pace. I thank you for the trust, for your energy and your continued enthusiasm as we continue to define who we are. I am thrilled with the progress we have made together. Every week, we continue to develop a sound that is more and more impressive and exciting. We have learned 4 great new songs in 3 months, with many more to come! Now, we have the opportunity to share our music with a great panel of judges, and set the bar as high as possible - 3 full months before singing in the Sprint Center! Of course, we would be nowhere without Mike Neff, Mike Louque, and all of the leaders, singers, and supporters of Central Standard that have laid the foundation. Their vision and perseverance is the reason that we are able to be a part of such an amazing ensemble! One of the most exciting features of this first contest weekend together, is that we are represented by so many quartets! I wish the very best to: 3 Men and a Melody, Last Call, Listen Up!, Skyline, Stepping Stones, and Vintage Stock in the prelims contest, and Sound cs 4 Revolution and Vintage Stock in the collegiate contest. What amazing participation! I am hopeful that we'll
  • 6. Grooming Guidelines • Make sure your suit and shirt have been dry cleaned and pressed, ready to go for the contest. When you get to “Wichatuni”, hang it up when you get settled into your room, so that the wrinkles fall out of it. You might even hang it in the bathroom and run a hot shower with the door closed for a few minutes…the steam will loosen up any stray wrinkles. • Polish up your black shoes and get them nice and shiny for the stage. The sales clerk at Off Broadway Shoes said the best thing to polish them with is Windex! • Haircuts and grooming - pay a visit to your barber/stylist before we head off to “Wichatuni”. Have a neatly trimmed neckline, and product for your hair, as appropriate (gel, pomade, forming cream, etc). • Neatly trimmed and groomed facial hair (for those of us that have it), otherwise, it's cleanshaven for those that aren't sporting a beard, goatee, or stache. • Check those stray eyebrows, and nose/ear hair - trim them if needed (yep, we get em - we're guys - it happens). • Neatly trimmed and groomed fingernails, minus nailpolish...just checking to see how closely you're reading. ;-) • No colognes or aftershave in rehearsal or onstage during the contest performance. • Drink plenty of water and hydrate all week. cs 5

Broadway Wichita, KS 67202 Phone: (316) 263-0884 URL: http://www.360wichita.com/Attractions/OrpheumTheatre.html Information: he Orpheum Theatre opened on Sept. 4, 1922, it was the first atmospheric theatre in the United States. The theatre was conceived as a garden of old Andalusia. It's entire design was that of a Spanish garden or court. The magnificent proscenium arch is the main feature of the auditorium. The sidewalls of the auditorium were accented by niches with mock tile roofs and grills and wooden lattice work arches across the ceiling to create a courtyard effect. The Wichita Orpheum was an integral part of the famous "Orpheum Circuit" and in its heyday, virtually every major star of vaudeville graced its stage. During this period, more than 17,000 acts appeared with the playbill changing three times each week. In 1980 the Orpheum was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1984 it was gifted to the Orpheum Performing Arts Centre, Ltd., a non profit corporation which is dedicated to the preservation, restoration and ongoing utilization of this important part of our cultural and architectural heritage. Today the 1300 seat theatre host a variety ofcs 14 acts from concerts to movies and plays.

  • 31. FAQ What is the ACSC? The past championship quarters from our district put on a show. Since this is pre-lims for International, and not the regular fall contest there is no ACSC show, that will be in the Fall. Where do I buy CD’s? TBD Where is the Harmony Marketplace? There isn’t one at the district level – that only happens at International. Who do I call if I’m confused? If it is contest related, Chris Hecker. 816-617-4599 Where do we park? The city parking lot directly across from the hotel is FREE and open and available 24/hrs. The hotel does have a 500 spot covered parking garage (this is NOT THE VALET) and it is $8/night. Where do we eat/drink/party? There are a number of fast food and sit down type restaurants all over the place. Check with the front counter for more information. How do I get to the Hotel? See the “Directions/Maps” and the “Detailed Downtown Map” pages in the beginning of the packet. How do I get to the Contest Site? See the “Directions/Maps” and the “Detailed Downtown Map” pages in the beginning of the packet. Will there be busses to and from any hotel? This information has not yet been posted to the website – stand by for update. Is there a party or gathering afterwards Saturday night? There are usually a series of Hospitality Rooms hosted by various chapters held all over the hotel. cs 30
