"Mr. Squirrel's BIG Adventure", "Volcano Taco", "Brandy and the Island", and "Max and the Oogala - Foogala" - - What on earth do these 4 things have in common? These are the titles of the books that the Topeka Lutheran School 8th graders wrote and illustrated in computer class this past nine weeks for the 1st graders. We went into Mrs. Hadley's class and listened to her read several different kinds of books to her students, and then we talked about appropriate language and subjects that first graders would enjoy and understand. They wrote the story and then illustrated it using Power Point. Next, they printed the stories off and colored each page. Ms. Eakins bound them, and you can look at them on the table across from the pop machines. (Please be careful not to rip the pages. We invited the 1st graders into the music room to show them the "Power Point version" of their books (a couple had animation that does not show up on a hard copy). Using the AverKey that hooks up to the computer, we could show the Power Point on the TV screen. The 1st graders loved the books. They really are quite creative! Take a peek!
