What’s Going To Happen in 2021?! What We Know, What We Think We Know & What We Don’t Know We Don’t Know. This week was a big week for predictions, starting with the Gartner IT Symposium wrapping up this week and last month’s predictions from Forrester’s Data Insights Forum. Yogi Berra is known to have said that it’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future. John Lloyd, the author of “The Book of General Ignorance” will say that Edison used to say “we do not know one millionth of one percent about anything.” So, while you read these predictions, take them in context and read the fine prints. None of them are guaranteed. They are Analysts’ best guess. In fact, many of them will come back to assess the accuracy of their predictions a year later. They do so to remind you that most of us don’t know what the future will be made of. In fact, as you take time this weekend to reflect on what we know, what we don’t know, what we know we don’t know and what we don’t know we don’t know, I’d invite you to take a look at his book. He’s my book of the week! You’ll find out that Baseball was NOT invented in America, Napoleon was NOT short, or that George Washington was in fact NOT America’s first president! If you still to need to be convinced of John’s fun and approachable style, check out the below TedX talk! Forrester’s Insights on the World of Insights & Other Predictions Only 7% of firms report advanced, insights-driven practices. Only 20% of employees who could be leveraging enterprise-grade analytical applications do so. Less than HALF of all decisions are made based on quantitative information (a number that hasn’t moved in 3 years!!!)
