4. Approach
4
Promoting agriculture as a
sustainable business that can create
value for smallholder producers,
provide jobs for women and youth,
produce nutritious and healthy
food for people, and serve as an
engine for inclusive growth.
5. Strategic Goal 3:
Enhance capacity of stakeholders in
information & knowledge management
Three strategic goals
Strategic Goal 2:
Facilitate conducive agricultural
policies & enabling environment
Strategic Goal 1:
Development of profitable value
chains for smallholder farmers
6. •Conscious choice to refocus operations & resources at
regional level.

• Regional flagship projects
CTA’s new Strategic Plan 2016-2020
Building on previous achievement
Focus on results & impact
8. Climate (variability & change) is critical to agriculture in
ACP region because smallholder farms are rainfed
Agric activities tied to weather recurrent swings of▶▶
food insecurity
Distribution of impact- poor farmers (smallholder &
female) with lowest capacity to adapt, but have highest
need for food security are disproportionally impacted
Mid-season drought and weather extreme are the “new
normal”?
9. From problems to solutions.......
Much information about challenges...but less on
solutions to the challenges
Any bloom in the gloom?- specific solutions that work
and benefit smallholder especially female farmers?
Sample questions:
‒ Which are the specific solutions, their adoption & impact?
‒ How to upscale proven CSA solutions?
Cross cutting or deliberate planning for gender?
11. Objectives of this working
session
Knowledge & progress to upscale CSA among
female farmers in the region
Roadmap for a project to support gender-focused
CSA: What? Who? Where?
Initiate new partnership and build synergies with
organizations that are active in this domain
13. ...now over to you
YOU as an important resource- broad range of
organization, expertise & experiences
Big picture: “What is the specific roadmap to
help women farmers who are out there, having
to cope with climate change as they pursue
their livelihood on daily basis?”

drivers?
3. Potentials for scaling up among smallscale
farmers
